Korthul frowns. "This business with names keeps recurring. If for no other reason, we need to stop this Splatter Man from killing again." Korvus Slade wrote: "Indeed, Master Korthul. It appears that we now know who the Whispering Way sought to capture with their ritual. The question remains: what do they intend to do with the good warden's spirit? As to what they hoped to accomplish by unleashing the evil spirits trapped herein upon the unsuspecting townsfolk, I daresay they were entirely unconcerned with the repercussions of their actions," Korvus muses. "It seems rather rash of me that they would unleash this kind of darkness without fear of repercussion. If they're getting this bold, they must be working with some amount of urgency," Korthul thinks aloud. ![]()

![]() Korthul lets out a muttered "...disgusting..." and is noticeably distressed at the horror of it all. At the end of Vesorianna's tale, Korthul turns to the group. "So we uncover more of the Whispering Ones' purpose in Ravengro, but the question remains: what does unleashing undead monsters on a small village accomplish for them?" He turns to Vesorianna after contemplating a short while and speaks clearly. "Lady Vesorianna, truly you have suffered much in this devilish place. You do not deserve to suffer any further. I, for one, will do my best to ensure you get the peace you have earned." ![]()

I'm not sure I caught all you were saying, but I certainly understand an outstretched hand wielding alcohol." Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Apparently, that was some strong brandy. ![]()

"Let me take a look at that safe," Korthul says before following the large northman to the office. After tinkering with the lock with his tools, Korthul shakes his head. "I haven't had much opportunity to work on locks this complex. They tend to be opened with an axe-head rather than lock picks where I come from." Korthul can't make that DC even on a 20. I needs me some masterwork thieves' tools and a few more ranks. --- After returning with the group, Korthul nods to Harold, ready to proceed in clearing out the first level of the macabre prison. ![]()

We should let Sheriff Caeler and Father Grimburrow know, in case a friend or family member is searching for a dwarf who has gone missing in the area." "I'm sorry, I don't. I was still groggy from my injuries. I'll let you know if anything comes to mind." Haldhin:
Is Korthul allowed to know what the dwarf's name was? It wasn't mentioned in the message you sent me. --- After examining the hall, Korthul will get in behind Harold, axe held in one hand, dagger held in the other. "I've got an eye out. Let's move quietly." Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 ![]()

![]() In response to Korvus' research, which he and Korthul may have spoken about as they travelled to Harrowstone. "That Splatter Man you speak of sounds awfully familiar. Gibs was obsessed with my name when he had me imprisoned. He kept adding a new letter ever few hours, sometimes as fast as minutes. Before he killed the dwarf, he wrote his name in blood along the wall." "If your hunch is correct, he could very well have been controlled by the Splatter Man." --- In response to Asha: Korthul nods in response to Asha's curtsy. "These cultists beat me, left me for dead, and crossed my personal wishes to keep Lorrimor among the living." Korthul emits a small chuckle. "I'm not much of an orc, but I'll admit that the prospect of timely revenge gets my blood boiling. Those cultists will pay Lorrimor's life debt with their own." Does Korvus mention his findings on the prison to the group? I've got more info if Korthul becomes aware of his research. ![]()

![]() I'm really sorry to hear that. :( Sadly, I've recently had some bad news as well (family emergency) and am heading home for the weekend. I should be back home and good to go again as of next week (i.e. Monday-ish), but until then, I won't be able to post. Please NPC Korthul until then, and I'll be back to control him soon, if all goes well. I guess it could be played out as him being pretty quiet and still sizing up the group as a whole; he wants to help them because they're on the lookout for Lorrimor's killers, but he's also overly cautious around new people. ![]()

"I was told Lorrimor was still alive by a half-elf and human in town. Have you maybe heard of them?" Korthul continues to describe the human and half-elf in question. "I was about to ask you the same. I came to in that room over there," he says, indicating the room behind him, "where your madman has been performing some dark deeds." Korthul indicates a few of the scars on his arms that appear more recent than others. "These are fresh. And someone is slain by his hand." A worried look crosses his face for a moment, but Korthul does not elaborate further. He once again turns to look at the group as a whole, spending a bit more time eying the walking statue. His sentence is cut short by a grunt of pain as the scythe bites into the flesh that had so recently been cut open by Gibs' war razor. Fresh blood pools, and Korthul realizes he must focus on the task at hand. With a new warrior in the fray, Korthul hopes to take tactical advantage, as he quickly dodges and weaves his way around the scythe, hoping to attack it from its "flank," wherever that is on a floating weapon being carried by disembodies arms. Once in position, he swings with his axe. Korthul uses Acrobatics to avoid attacks of opportunity and get into flanking position with the scythe. He then attacks. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

He barks out, "I don't know who you people down there are, but I'd get my weapons ready if I were you. Something terrible approaches," while drawing his axe and dagger, waiting for the thing to come nearer so that he can hopefully knock the ghastly scythe away. ![]() Hoping that this Gibs hasn't spotted him getting up, Korthul tries to silently hop/sidle over to Gibs and push him off the side of the balcony by throwing his full weight onto the madman. Secretly, he hopes nobody sees him hopping and/or sidling in chains, due to the embarrassment factor. Korthul tries to move silently to G14, using acrobatics to try to mitigate the penalties due to his chained legs and hopefully speed himself up a bit. He'll draw his trusty dagger as he moves if that's allowable in this strange case, and if he hasn't been stripped of his possessions (which I don't think was ever mentioned to me). If he gets within 5 feet of Gibs, and still has a Standard Action left, he'll try to Bull Rush him off the side of the balcony. Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

![]() Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 At the moment, if I understand correctly, Korthul has his arms and legs chained. He was unsupervised for a couple of hours, so during that time he would have taken 20 on Escape Artist and Strength checks to escape, for a total of 23 on each. Odds are, that's not enough to get out. So in this situation how mobile is Korthul? Would he be able to get up onto his knees? If so, I'd like to try that, as stealthily as possible. Let me know if you need additional checks.
