The thought of meeting alien life-forms excites you. The more different
their appearances and customs are from yours, the better! You either
believe they have much to teach you or you want to prove you are better
than them. Of course, the only way to accomplish your goal is to leave
the Pact Worlds and travel to the Vast, where a virtually endless number
of aliens await.

THEME KNOWLEDGE

Science by 5. Life Science is a class skill for you, though if it is a
class skill from the class you take at 1st level, you instead gain a

The first memories Toro had of her father was a smoky mess area aboard a old freighter, her father staring
down a few hard-faced Hardscrabble foremen. She was only 8 or so, and was along with her Pa to 'learn the ropes'
as he said.

He was there negotiation some mining rights or somesuch, she couldn't remember the details, but what she did remember
was the line of her father's jaw, hard like granite as he listened to the HS men's demands. Then it was his voice.
So rich and deep when he laughed and sang, now it was like a rockfall, hard and unforgiving as he outlined the options
available to the HS men.

Koro always smiled at the details that stuck with her from those days; she'd only seen her father rarely during her earlier days living on an asteroid with the prosaic identifier of Potato-445. Living with her aunt and other cousins was fine, but she always missed her Pa desperately. When she'd been old enough, she'd been told her mother had died and that was all that she was able to glean from her extended family, their lips tightening. She new there was a story there, but had left that for another day.

When her Pa had come to fetch her to travel with him fulltime, she was estatic, until she say his dump of a ship and the places he travelled to. Pa worked for a company called Sovereign Chrysalis, a brokerage that juiced the wheels of a great many deals that took place out in the Diaspora and elsewhere in the solar system; between Hardscabble and the corps, the corps and the other corps, the aliens and everyone else; pretty much anyone who needed mediation of a dispute, called Koro's Pa. Or one of his co-workers.

With and easy smile, and a harder wit, her Pa went from corner to corner of the system, talking and cajoling and threatening and pleading, always somehow getting the deal done. And for 8 years, Toro had a front row seat as well as all that time between , travelling the empty space between planets and asteroids, for her Pa to fill her brain with all it took to be just like him.

She was about 16 when, following Pa into another smoky mess hall, he paused then indicated that she was going to handle this one. She'd been fully briefed about the particulars, so after a moment of looking her Pa in the eyes and seeing only acceptance, love and confidence in her abilities, Koro turned , smiled and began her career.

Laughing afterward with her Pa, celebrating her successful negotiation, Koro nodded at the feeling that up to then, her Pa could only describe to her. She wanted it again, and so her Pa began to let her negotiate more deals.

They'd only recently broke dock with a HS freighter ,doing their pre-jump calculations when the proximity alarm erupted moments before the ship was hit. Steam and sparks flew about the interior as Koro ran to the cockpit where her Pa was desperately trying to keep the ship together. Koro could see the trace of the ship attacking them, but didn't get at chance to look before her Pa had grabbed her and thrown her bodily into the escape pod. A satchel and other gear followed, then he closed the hatch, but with himself on the other side.

Koro screamed his name as he stood gazing at her, bathed in a shower of sparks, only love and regret on his face as he pushed the activator and sent her pod out into space. Frantically Koro tried to visualize the ship and it's attacker as the pod spun away, but she was soon too far away to see anything.

A week passed before she was picked up by a lashtuna transport. As fast as she could she got herself to Sovereign Chrysalis headquarters and demanded to know what had happened to her father. Nothing, the could tell her nothing. As far as they knew, he had been scheduled to negotiate a deal with HardScrabble, but never arrived. She informed them that the negotiation had taken place, successfully, she'd done it herself. Comparing notes, the SC employeed and Koro realized that her Pa had rendevoused with a different KS ship, two days before he was scheduled to do so for SC. No sign of her Pa's ship has turned up since.

A mystery! Koro continued to work from Sovereign Chrysalis for two more years before deciding to strike out on her own. The mystery of her Pa's last decision and even the older mystery of her mother spurred Koro out into the system, not really searching for anything specific, just letting things take her here and there...an answer may or may not appear.

That was how Kuravor came into her life. He'd heard good things about her from Mandrl Fona, an account exec at Sovereign Chrysalis and arranged to get Koro's help with a delicate negotiong between HardScrabble and a corp called Nova. The few months they spent together forged a strong friendship.

Over the next couple of years, Duravor would call on Koro from time to time; help she was always delighted to give to her good friend.
