This was my first attempt at V5 character creation so there may be mistakes.

Both concepts are people who join groups seeking safety in numbers and would likely be looking to join a coterie after finding themselves neonates in the world of darkness.

Hi,

I am interested in joining the Chicago by night chronicle. I am familiar with the old Chicago by night up until the events of the end of the module Under a blood red moon. I really know. I thing about V5 or current Chicago by night.

I could run a brujah or a gangrel in the current chronicle as I don’t think you have either based on my review of the thread.

Character concepts I was thinking of could be a gangbanger or an outlaw biker.
Let me know your thoughts.

Discusion Thread

Looks like we might have all the takers we're going to have for this one. If any you have someone else in mind that might be interested, please send them this way.

Hi,

I would be interested in joining a Chicago by night chronicle. I would be happy to run a 13th gen caitiff, brujah, gangrel or gargoyle. I’m not familiar with V5 but I am familiar with the old world of darkness.
What era of Chicago by night would the chronicle be set in? During Lodin’s reign or after under a blood red moon?

ST Shadow,

Do you have a house rule or custom regarding how you handle the requirement of the material Components for thaumaturgical rituals? Is there a limited presumption of the characters having the tools of the trade on hand?

I wanted to outfit and equip my character and his ghoul with 1910 weapons and other gear/equipment/items/possessions. I took 5 resource dots in character creation, how do you deal with resources and character purchases/finances?

Also, how does one send a DM on this site or check to see if one has received a DM?

Thanks.

Gaston Flambeau

Concept/background: A war mage formerly of the Order of Hermes and House Flambeau, forcibly embraced by the renegade Tremere elder Lord Casmir as one of the children of Isaac.

The war mages of house Flambeau are one of the 12 founding houses of the order of Hermes and they are masters of the forces sphere well known for their innate connection to fire magic. House Flambeau was allied with house Tremere for many years until the start of the Massasa war when they became the most ardent foes of the Tremere.
In addition to destructive magic, the Flambeau war mages are masters of martial arts and mundane weapons.

Gaston has mostly come to terms with his vampiric existence but he still mourns the loss of his avatar and his expulsion from the order. He still hopes to one day find a cure for his vampirism but does not expect this will ever actually happen.

** spoiler omitted **

I just activated messaging.

Gaston left Egypt in 1888 and after bouncing around the Mediterranean a bit, made the trip across the pond to finally visit the new world on what seemed at the time to be a whim.
He met Ethan in the famed but rapidly disappearing Wild West in 1890. Ethan, a former soldier of
The war between the dates was a gun for hire that Gaston met in a saloon playing cards. Gaston hired Ethan as a body guard and after several months, decided to give Ethan the proxy embrace and take him as a ghoul.
For nearly the last 20 years, Gaston and Ethan have been in Chicago. Gaston just felt a strange urge to settle there…
Things between Gaston and the pyramid are professional and cordial but he has not been enthusiastic or proactive about finding ways to serve the pyramid.

Merits

Discipline prodigy (Thaumaturgy) 5pt merit (all thaumaturgy difficulties are reduced by 1 for all paths and rituals but never less than a 4 difficulty)
Ability aptitude (melee) 1 pt merit (all melee difficulties are reduced by 2)

Where are these from?

I googled “wod merits and flaws” and there was voluminous results. I’m not sure specifically which set of lists but it would have been first page of search results.

A proposed character sheet submitted for review.

Concept thus far is a war wizard.

In V20 character creation, when allocating dots to an ability is 3 the limit unless it’s raised beyond 3 with freebie points? Or nowadays can you just plunk 4 or 5 dots into an ability with the pool of dots available ?

Thanks for the V20 list of abilities. I’ll remove dots in quick-draw, mediation and mage lore. I should get the anachronism flaw OOC.

Once upon a time, a dot or two in academics granted the scholars tongue, Latin.

This is an example of my not knowing what it is that I don’t know about V20. My rough draft character is heavily invested in linguistics as a knowledge when that knowledge apparently no longer exists.

WW,
Unless V20 is really different from orig and revised WOD, you can take linguistics as a knowledge.

Hi,
Will all characters be presumed to be able to read and write and do basic math or given the time period, will characters need a dot in academics to have basic literacy?

Hi,
As this is my first foray into play by post, I have a question with regard to game mechanics in the chronicle. How are actions that would be determined with dice rolls in a table top game handled in the play by post chronicle? Does the story teller consider the declared action and the dice pool of the character and make a judgment call on a result or is there some virtual dice mechanism?

My character has a reason for path of blood being his secondary path and not his primary path due to the circumstances of his embrace and initial lack of formal training as well as his prior history as a forces adept of house flambeau. So I was also planning on having a path other than blood as the primary.

In the next week or so, I will get an actual campaign thread up and running.

Sounds great. As to why my character is still barely an ancillae when by embrace date he should be an elder, after the events of 1444 he tried to experiment with a magical cure for his vampirism that involved complete immersion in quintessence at a node while a mage friend from his breathing days tried to restore him with the life sphere. The resulting explosion killed his mage friend and left him in torpor for centuries until he was pulled by mystic forces from torpor in 1666 and was compelled to rejoin with the other children of Isaac. After the events of 1666, he went on a quest that lasted nearly a year to try to cure his vampirism that took him to the deep umbra trying to find Pangea and ultimately to the gates of Arcadia where he was denied entrance to the realm of the fea. When he felt a mystic pull to return to the material plane it wasn’t a year that had passed it was nearly two centuries as time had passed differently. After the events of 1888 he has remained with the Tremere until the beginning of the chronicle in 19**.

Do we post the draft character sheets here for storyteller review?

Hi,
I am interested in participating in a play by post chronicle. I am very familiar with the old world of darkness but I do not know the V20 system so I could have some blind spots with regard to game system mechanics. I am also new to these forums and how things are done here.

I’ve read your chronicle concept and the character idea that came to mind is an order of Hermes mage that was captured by Claudius Giovanni and offered as a meal/play thing to Casmir and was embraced as a Tremere neonate during the events of the last supper. The character only sees his siblings in darkness once every few hundred years so it would just be background. While the character serves and has sworn an oath of fealty to house Tremere, he has never given up hope of somehow finding a cure for the curse of vampirism and restoring his avatar. The only path for this very slim hope is acquiring more magical knowledge and lore and the only way for him to do that is by serving the Pyramid.

Let me know if you have room for one more character in the story and if so, if the character concept works.
