The cost of scribing scrolls are for materials though, correct? Summon monster I calls for a small bag and a candle, both of which are inexpensive. If I want to scribe that why is the cost still 250gp and 2hrs or 1,000gp and an entire day?

It's for "really expensive special inks and vellum" but in reality it's paying for game balance.

If scrolls were free, every 5th level wizard would take a month long sabbatical then roll into combat with literally a hundred fireball spells on hand. Etc.

By the way if you want a 0th level combat spell, take the trait "two world magic" and add acid splash to your list.

This is the answer I was looking for, we were discussing taking a few days and scribing some spells with very little material cost so I could use eschew materials and not take up a spell slot. I'll look into that trait and see if my gm will let me take it. I appreciate the info!

I'm totally new to using magic so I decided to dabble in it..I chose the witch class but realized too late that there are ZERO 0 level spells I can cast offensively that are effective. Also, the number of spells I can cast per day are very limited. I took eschew materials as my feat and another player told me about scribing scrolls. I looked it up and it's pretty pricey because you need raw materials to scribe the scroll and not just ink and a scroll. However, because I have eschew materials do I still need raw materials to scribe the scroll or can I just get ink and a scroll and get to scribing?
