Male Halfling Ranger 2
Dear Dungeon Master,
I am the last survivor of the Blood of Dragons campaign. We waited for you for many days, but our supplies began to dwindle and we left you this letter in the event you returned to us.
You'll have no trouble staying in the caverns here to catchyour rest. We eliminated the goblins and worked our way up to their giant masters. Though the adventures did not end there, we struck a solid enough blow to our enemies' plans that they began to break up, pointing our party in one anothers' directions as if we would hunt down their former allies while they get away.
FOr the future of your game world, you should know that hill giants are all but extinct. I drove their last remaining tribe into the earth at about 18th level, and have since begun to hunt the rare and dangerous fomorians of the Hunched Peaks. After that, I am considering changing the entry in the MM for storm giants to "Always Good" alignment, by eradicating any exceptions.
Best of luck to ya.

Kimeon smiles and accept the meat from Gronk. "Maybe this will do the trick, then." He takes out a length of silk rope and ties it around the center of the cut a few times. Biting down on the end of the rope, he hands the meat to Gronk and whispers "Not til I ask for it."
Hoping that Gronk understands, he crawls down the ladder again and prepares an arm's stretch of rope. Eying the dogs carefully, he pulls the rope taught and nods to Gronk.
When the slab of meat falls freely down the center of the well, the halfling yanks the rope with one hands and releases the other link with the other. The meat changes direction as it clears the bottom of the well, flying toward the dogs and landing at their feet.

Kimeon holds the rope, prepared to lure the dogs closer and encourage them to fight. While he waits for the to wake up, he slowly hangs a satchel over the ladder rung and pulls out a smooth stone with a sharpened edge.

Kimeon notes the shrugs and blank stares from his party. "Well, I can try to be quiet, and maybe if one of us is an ambush fighter, we can do them together, but I can't guarantee we won't be swarmed by goblins if the dogs notice us."
He thinks for a second. "We don't have any fresh meat, but if we kill one, maybe the other two will fight over the body while we make a plan."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
"The dogs won't eat the goblins because rations fell on them. Also..haven't seen any goblins yet. How many of us are good with a bow while upside down?"
Male Halfling Ranger 2
Kimeon makes his way up the well and back to his party.
"There are dogs chained together. Do we have a way to put them down quietly? Once they get a whiff, I have no doubt they will let everyone know we're here.
"Once we drug them or put them to sleep, I can sneak over and silence them for good. Nasty-looking dogs, too. Goblins' best friend."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
Kimeon slowly tangles his ankles into the ladder rungs and swings toward the lower lip of the well. He tucks his hair into his shirt collar in a rapid, practiced move, and angles his forehead to peer into the tunnel below. With his free hand, he waves off Gronk and holds up a single finger....

"Then I'll climb down ahead and look around. I'm a fair scout, though if there are actual traps I have no education in spotting them."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
"Good enough for me. We go in and find if they're waiting for us, or we go back up and take a different tunnel. What'll it be?"
Male Halfling Ranger 2
Specifically, Kimeon searches the rungs and rocks around the well. He also looks at several stains on the floor.
Can I get an idea what kind of creature uses the well? An assortment? A small pack of goblins? A horde of them spilling out and retreating back?

The halfling stops moving when he notices Jack behind him. As Jack raises the star knive and prepares to strike the larvae, Kimeon whispers "Wait."
When Jack brings the knife down onto the giant worms, Kimeon's eyes drop to the floor for a split second. When he raises his head, his eyes narrow and he produces a small smooth stone. He takes several quick steps forward, taking his companion out of the angle and getting within good range of the rock.

Kimeon presses a single finger up to his lips and waits for Gronk's attention. Pointing toward himself, he sneaks away toward the room. Pointing to Gronk, he then motions toward the passage on the right and gestures toward his eyes. He waits for an acknowledgement from his big friend. Ultimately, he turns and creeps toward the big room to get a good scout.

Kimeon points to the northeast, "The air goes this way", he says. "The other passages have air, but it does not flow to here."
He looks to see what interests the other copanions.

The halfling suddenly drops lower to the ground and tip-toes toward the overturned mining cart. From that cover he peers around on all sides, holding up his fist in the universal symbol to stop following.

Kimeon examines the ground, leaving the lantern on the floor to creep around. To human eyes, he wanders several paces away from the light, just out of visibility.
When he returns, he says, "There are few signs of recent life here in the cavern mouth, but..."

"Away we go, then. With this lantern light, Gronck and I see about the same, so we'll go ahead. Don't you guys get too far away behind."
Turning to his big companion, Kimeon grimaces in the chill, damp air.
"Ready, my new friend?"
Male Halfling Ranger 2
"That's true, Gronck." Kimeon replies softly, "But the rest of them don't see as well, and we need them to stay with us. The more they can see, the more they can help us."
Kimeon adjusts the hood of his lantern until a soft glow comes over the cavern entrance.
"Amelia, are we safe to enter?"
Male Halfling Ranger 2
Having poor vision upon entering the cavern, Kimeon immediately sttops to rummag through hispack for a hooded lantern.
"We won't survive long if we can't see, but I don't want to make too much light." he says as he rubs his flint and steel together next to the wick of the lamp.
He seems not to have invested much notice in his surroundings yet.
Male Halfling Ranger 2
From a hundred yards up ahead, Kimeon watches the conversation. After waving his hands to gain their attention, he rolls his eyes and (poorly) mimics. When you look up to his location, he points at the clouds behinds you and waves you forward quickly.
As he disappears behind another boulder and makes his way carefully up the pass, he says to himself "Humans."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
I want to search for the most recent goblin tracks and follow them a short distance - do they lead to an ambush site or bottleneck?
If I don't see signs of a panding ambush, I'll head out about a hundred feet before waving the party forward.

Kimeon kicks over a few leaves, then carefully lobs a few heavy rocks onto the pile of rubble, which shifts considerably.
"I'd say this roadblock occured naturally, but there are goblins about, so they might take advantage of it. I'll scout ahead with Gronk and you folks follow behind."
"Keep an eye out," the halfling concludes. "They'll likely be in the trees or rubble to start with."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
Kimeon sounds out a low whistle as he stares at the bird.
"Hope they don't think they're here for us."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
"This is the worst part," says Kimeon to no one in particular.
"None of the comforts of home, none of the excitement or danger or reward. Just....dirt." He pulls yet another sweet roll out of his pack, grimacing as he finds it's the last one, and takes a bite. A look of relief comes over him as he chews quietly.

Kimeon shrugs at the priest and murmers,"People have different ways of being ready."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
At Tukonen's comment, the halfling steers his horse closer to the young lady priest.
"It appears," he whispers, "That my choices for conversation are between you and the orc."
He doesn't say anything, but makes a screwed up face, as if agonizing over a decision.
Finally, he leans close to her and mouths the word,
"Congratulations."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
Kimeon looks over at Amelia after Jack's outburst and rolls his eyes. The longer he goes on, the more severe are Kimeon's antics, until at the end he stands on his horse and mimes throwing a rope over a passing branch. When the horse passes under the tree, the halfing jumps, eliciting a small yelp of surprise, but he lands on his feet and doesn't seem to cause the horse much discomfort.
He finally sits down just in time for Jack to end his stories and look around to see who's listening.
Kimeon affects an innocent shrug. "That's an unusual life, sir. I hope it doesn't end at the foot of the mountain!"
Male Halfling Ranger 2
"Wow." mutters Kimeon some moments after we depart. "The town has a reputation for welcoming adventurers. The temple outside the town sends them off with a eulogy."
He brightens up after a few seconds. "So...who hears tales of giants in the mountains? And what sort of folk have I joined up with, eh? Better to know each other now, than to save the lives of complete strangers!"
Male Halfling Ranger 2
Can we "roleplay" to epic levels? : }
Kimeon walks for a few minutes in the night air before realizing there's nothing in town really worth the round trip. Longing for some kind of action before turning in, he searches for a tree standing close to the temple and tests himself. He sets out a small hourglass and flips it over. He then climbs the tree, scampers across the branches and leaps to the nearest balcony. He finishes his exercise by scaling back down the wall, somewhat recklessly. When he returns to the hourglass, he flips it over without waiting and immediately repeats the routine, trying to beat his time.
After a few repetitions of this, he returns to the temple for a final mug of ale and a bath.
Male Halfling Ranger 2
The halfling shrugs as if he had never thought about it before.
"I don't know what I'm looking for. I guess to keep busy and hone my skills."
He watches the cleric leave with her escort before chiming in, "Those sweet rolls are baked fresh and come with honey. I'll be first in line at breakfast as long as they're around!"
He looks around at the rest of you. "It's kind of a slow night life here, despite all the explorers coming in and out of town. I'm off to find a roling tavern and maybe charm a lass. See you in the morning!"
Male Halfling Ranger 2
"Well, don't be fooled, friend. I hunt more than just giants, but I hear these mountains offer quite the test to someone like myself."
Turning to the priest, the halfling smiles innocently. "If you'd have a breakfast full of those sweet cakes I had this morning, a few for the road would make me very happy."
Male Halfling Ranger 2
The cowled figure, stretches lazily atop the stool, his short arms extended by loose sleeves. When it appears his feet will at last uncoil and reach the floor, they stop well short of the ground.
Your suspicions are confirmed when the figure jumps off the stool and steps toward you. He can't be even four feet tall. THere's no way.
Standing as tallas he can, the figure drops the cowel behind his head, revealing the pommels of twin swords behind his shoulders.
"I'm an experienced caravanner, for one. And I hunt giants."
The revealed face is proud and handsome, if road-weary. He looks each of you over as if searching for an equal.
It appears he's one of those halflings with a chip on his shoulder.
