Special Rules Militant[flaw] - Kimeon is quick to defend his people or way of life, and slow to back down from a fight. In competitive situations, he suffers a -2 penalty to Bluff, Diplomacy and Sense Motive checks while his prejudice takes control. This does not apply to Bluff checks made to feint in combat.
Favored Enemy: Giants - Rake gains a +2 bonus when making Bluff, Sense Motive, Perception and Survival checks involving creatures of the giant type. He also gains a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against giants.
Quick[trait]: Rake's land speed is 10 ft faster than normal for his race, but at a cost. Subtract one hit point gained from each level Rake achieves.
Track: Rake adds half his ranger level to Survival checks made to follow or identify tracks.
Wild Empathy: Rake gains a +2 bonus to influence the attitudes of animals, and a -2 bonus to influence magical beasts with low Intelligence.
Equipment
twin short swords, dagger, hutning knife, short bow, 20 arrows, traveller's outfit, hemp rope, bedroll and blanket, 5 candles, 3 pieces colored chalk*, flint and steel, common lamp, 2 pints of oil, 5 days' trail rations, backpack, sack, 3 empty vials, whetstone, 3 torches, 2 sunrods, chain shirt, 20 skip rocks, small hourglass (three minutes)
Appearance
After a few minutes of conversation with Kimeon Rake, it becomes clear the halfing is larger on the inside than on the outside. Taller and leaner than most of the little folk, Rake spends most of his time outdoors. To earn his keep, he travels with caravans in need of protecting their charges, or guides troupes of wealthy merchant on hunting trips into the wild. He carries an assortment of gear, but prefers to see how far he can get along without using any. He is well-armed, with two short swords crossed at his back, and a dagger and small hunting knife paired at his side. He also carries a strung short bow and a closed quiver.
Background Information
Spoiler:
Few people know the origins of this tough-talking halfling. He seems to know halflings in every shire and hilltop, but has not hailed from any of them. He lives on the road, travelling between towns. He is known to make friends easily, have a strong love of family and have a sweet tooth like any of his kin, but the similarities end there.
Rake developed a love for a good fight, but early in his caravanning career, suffered a bit of discrimination in favor of beefier humans and even larger folk. His reputation began when he wagered he could defeat Grollo, the ogre caravan guard. Finding this good sport, a fat merchant named Dorlou offered to hire the halfling anyway, but would bet double Rake's salary against none.
Having had little training against such monsters, Rake was beaten soundly and suffered the mockery of his wagonmates for two weeks. Rake vowed he would never overestimate himself again, just as the big folk would never underestimate him.
Rake has no sad stories about giants raiding his home hovel, or being a slave in a land of larger monsters. He doesn't even have a great personal hatred of giants. His ego and competitive nature fuel a desire to defeat larger foes, so he seeks to build a reputation doing it. He spends more time defending the folk trapped between cities or rough lands these days, but he still hopes to get back to the beginning and challenge Grollo to a rematch.
