Part of the beauty of this game is the hand size limit. It mechanically limits what you can do in a turn sure, but it also limits the amount of damage you can take. Big beefy characters are defined by their small hand size allowing them to take multiple massive hits before they die.

I think if you add the house rule you don't get the advantage of the smaller hand sizes but still get the disadvantage of having limited options on a turn.


Frozen orb may be the only arcane spell I'd actually take over a divine spell. The split between arcane and divine is much smaller than in RoTR.


My girlfriend and I have just got to the end of AP3 where we get role cards. I really wanted to play with the theurge role. We are playing hybrid rules where you keep your S&S cards AND can swap them out for class deck cards if you wish.

I looked ahead at all the lovely spells to look forward to but there aren't any arcane only spells in adventure deck 4 or 5; combined with the lack of arcane spells in deck 1, 2 and 3 is making me rethink picking up this role.

In ROTR we had lightning bolt and disintegrate which were arcane only. So arcane casters did more damage but couldn't heal. In SS arcane seems to be straight up worse.
