”Our plans are almost complete,” gloated the Zothurian priest to his compatriot. ”The Scorpion Temple shall be burnt and its oasis fouled, and its followers—“ He paused, as a burning projectile hurtled out of the darkness, felling the priest with the horrible sound of the crackling of flames on flesh

”Its followers are here,” a deep voice intoned. A man stepped into the light, and the priest quailed with fear. He was garbed in black robes and wore the forbidden circlet of the Scorpion God on his forehead. ”Now that we are…alone…perhaps we can discuss those plans.” He loomed closer toward the sniveling cur of Zothur.

Background
Khnum-Ib-Sheut is not his given name, but his initiate name into the Order of Scorpions, which name three different scorpion goddesses as their patrons. Whether their dark powers arise from these goddesses, no one in the order truly knows. Khnum was once a happy youth of Amenti, diligent in his studies, but what he learned of the suppression of the Old Cults and mysteries troubled him. Eventually it led him to forbidden tomes and tombs, and finally, to the Order.
Appearance
Khnum is not particularly tall nor imposing, but his dark eyes appear fathomless and unnerving. His white linens with minor finery and bronzed skin mark him as a member of the merchant and scholar class; his Order items are not shown in public inside the lands of Yar-Ammon. His items of Al-Kemia, the Black Rites, are not known publicly as well. A tattoo of a scorpion stands ready on his right shoulder. Personality
Khnum’s knowledge of the oppressive nature of Zothur has made him grim, and his study of the Black Rites have left a darkness on his soul. However, he is possessed of a great casual humor, and enjoys witticisms and puns tremendously. He doubts that any gods are anything more than powerful creatures, even those that he serves.
Motivation
Khnum is dedicated to understanding the mystical and horrid secrets of Xoth, in the closest way to a scientific method that this world has. Are the Old Gods the same as the Star Gods, and does this mean they are returning? Can Yar-Ammon be freed of this accursed cult, and also not perish under Khazistani rule? While Khnum has allegiance to his Order and his land, he is ultimately pragmatic and serves knowledge most of all. He will accrue power and risk his soul to learn alchemical secrets, in the name of understanding the world, and perhaps, making his own mark on it.
