Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)
Keon loads his gear onto his mount as soon after a quick breakfast. He sees Nish examining a Wayfinder and approaches him, still holding the reins of his horse. "I did not know that you were a Pathfinder, Nish." he says. "How did you come to join our group if you are member of that society?"
Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)
Hey Thas, I'm having second thoughts about my character's class. I feel like his backstory isn't really fitting in with the Ravenloft story. The bookkeeping for the Wizard is feeling a bit unwieldy too. What do you think about me switching classes? I was thinking about a melee character like a paladin instead. I even thought of a way to switch them out. The paladin rides up, tells Keon that he is being recalled and the paladin it taking his place in group. Might also be cool to have the paladin be related to Ashlyn in some way. Maybe he wormed his way into the group to save his relative. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Keon looks towards the sky. "It will be night in just a few hours" he says, "I'm trying to remember how far to the next village..." Knowledge checks to find out if I know how far to the next village. Knowledge(local) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

I should add that I'm making the knowledge checks to try to find out what type of creature killed them.

Keon dismounts and glances about as he approaches one of the corpses. He pulls his cloak closer around him as a chill breeze arises. He kneels down beside one of the corpses to examine is closer. I'm going to make two knowledge checks as I'm examining the corpses. Knowledge (arcana) 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23 and Knowledge (nature) 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33. Also, a perception check as he glances around. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

There wasn't a lot of response to pooling our funds for a wand, so I think I'm just going to buy my own for now. I updated it my profile with the wand and a few more potions. Hey Kalgrin...you should probably go forward with the assumption that we are not pooling our funds for a wand. Just my 2 cp :)

Keon briskly walks back to the barracks after the briefing. He packs all of his gear and dons his boots. He writes a short letter and gives it to his commanding officer asking that it and any of his belongings be forwarded to his family if he doesn't make it back alive. Keon steps outside the barracks. Waiting for his companions, he looks towards the mountains that are their destination.

I agree about the potions. I bought a few myself. It is cheaper to buy a wand though. A potion is 50 gp per spell vs. a wand that is 15 gp per spell. You are correct about the energy channel. I've never played Ravenloft, but it sounds like it could be a bit heavier in undead than other campaigns. Having more healing options would give Kalgrin greater flexibility with his channels. He could use it for healing as well as damaging undead creatures. I think Ibram's Inspiration power is going to be very helpful when it comes to healing too :)

Our party size is rather large. It looks like some of us have bought cure potions. Should we consider pooling our money for a Wand of Cure Light Wounds that Kalgrin could use? Or maybe our superiors at the War College could equip us with a couple of these wands :) Infiltrating Ustalav might be nasty work. Let me know what you think.

Just curious. Thanks.

Kalgrin, I think it states it somewhere in the rulebook, but I don't remember where. The book is rather large, so it's easy to miss stuff like that. Some of your spells do require material components. Purchasing a spell component pouch should cover you for most of them. If a spell has a component list without a price, then it is assumed that you have that component in your spell component pouch. An example of this type of spell is Shield of Faith. It requires parchment with a holy text written on it, but it doesn't have a cost listed, so you have it if you bought a spell component pouch. Some spells have components with costs. An example of this type of spell is Shield of Law. It requires a reliquary worth 500 gp, so you have to pay that much when you cast the spell. Most spells don't have components that cost money though. As far as gear goes, perhaps some magic armor, shield and a magic weapon to start. You might also consider a headband (of Inspired Wisdom) to boost your Wisdom (since that is your spellcasting ability score). There are other items on the Wondrous Item list that might be helpful. Cloaks of resistance boost your saving throws, Pearls of Power give you extra spells per day, etc. We don't have a ton of money, so perhaps pick out all the stuff that interests you and then try different combinations of gear. I hope this helps!

Hi Kalgrin, Looks good so far. One thing I'll point out is that you don't get those 4th and 5th level spells yet. You only get them when your Cleric level is high enough to cast those 4th and 5th level spells (i.e. 7th level for 4th level spells and 9th level for 5th level spells).

I did the same thing when I posted my character. This happens to many people posting long forum messages too. Hopefully, Paizo can make a change to their site to prevent this. I'm looking forward to taking a look at your cleric. Seems like we have a pretty balanced party.

Sounds good. I'll modify my spellbook and scroll list to account for this.

Okay. The scrolls that I have listed are the ones that I scribed after I added the spells to my spellbook. Are you saying that you want me to add extra spells to my spellbook during the game (e.g. during a day off I could take an hour to decipher a scroll and then copy it into my spellbook (1 hour/level). Is that what you had in mind?
Hello all, Here is my wizard. I usually roll up 1st level characters, so it was fun to start at a higher level. I bought several scrolls at full price in order to add them to my spellbook. I think I can take 10 with Spellcraft to add them to my spellbook, but let me know if you would like me to roll for each one. I'll add a background for the NPC that was posted today. |
