Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Nish replies to Keon "Oh this, no this was gifted to me by another Pathfinder when he retired a number of years ago"

You can tell he is not very comfortable talking about this

"Oh, well, a very generous gift. You are fortunate."

Keon turns away and checks the gear on his mount. He doesn't want to embarrass the sorcerer any more than he already has. I wonder what the real story is...

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Keon loads his gear onto his mount as soon after a quick breakfast. He sees Nish examining a Wayfinder and approaches him, still holding the reins of his horse.

"I did not know that you were a Pathfinder, Nish." he says. "How did you come to join our group if you are member of that society?"

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Keon stretches out in his bedroll. Vengeance...no. Call it destiny...their destiny to die...again, he thinks as he drifts off to sleep.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

"Well, I won't consider our band very merry until I see our enemies lying dead beneath their swords.", Keon says with a grimace as he nods towards their armored compatriots.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

After his meal, Keon makes his way to a place near Nish.

"We don't want to drink too much ale....the undead prefer the night.", he says.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Hey Thas,

I'm having second thoughts about my character's class. I feel like his backstory isn't really fitting in with the Ravenloft story. The bookkeeping for the Wizard is feeling a bit unwieldy too.

What do you think about me switching classes? I was thinking about a melee character like a paladin instead. I even thought of a way to switch them out. The paladin rides up, tells Keon that he is being recalled and the paladin it taking his place in group. Might also be cool to have the paladin be related to Ashlyn in some way. Maybe he wormed his way into the group to save his relative.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Keon pitches in to help fortify the townhall.

He stops to examine another of the corpses to see if he can find any more clues about what kind of undead killed the people.

Knowledge (religion) check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Keon looks towards the sky. "It will be night in just a few hours" he says, "I'm trying to remember how far to the next village..."

Knowledge checks to find out if I know how far to the next village.

Knowledge(local) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Knowledge(geography) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

I'm going to make two knowledge checks as I'm examining the corpses. Knowledge (arcana) 1d20 + 15 and Knowledge (nature) 1d20 + 15.

Also, a perception check as he glances around. 1d20 + 7

I should add that I'm making the knowledge checks to try to find out what type of creature killed them.

A wand of Cure Light Wounds is 750 gp at market price. If we all go in (I think there are 6 of us), then it is 125 gp each.

I'll give ya all a military discount, you can buy it for 450 gp, would be 75 gp a piece

Thanks!

I'm in for 75 gp. How about everyone else?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

There wasn't a lot of response to pooling our funds for a wand, so I think I'm just going to buy my own for now.

I updated it my profile with the wand and a few more potions.

Hey Kalgrin...you should probably go forward with the assumption that we are not pooling our funds for a wand. Just my 2 cp :)

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Keon briskly walks back to the barracks after the briefing. He packs all of his gear and dons his boots.

He writes a short letter and gives it to his commanding officer asking that it and any of his belongings be forwarded to his family if he doesn't make it back alive.

Keon steps outside the barracks. Waiting for his companions, he looks towards the mountains that are their destination.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Do you want me to roll for my eidolon's HPs too or use the Monster tables in the Bestiary (avg. 5.5/HD)?

Here are my Eidolon's hit points if you want me to roll for them (max 10 for 1st hit die).

10 + 3d10 ⇒ 10 + (1, 7, 8) = 26

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

So it looks like I added everything except Dispel Magic. Cost for writing spells to spellbook is 460 gp.

I would like to scribe some scrolls, but I probably don't have time, since we only have 2 days. I guess that will have to wait. :)

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

My Spellcraft modifier is +15 (+2 bonus for transmutation spells).

Decipher 3rd-level scrolls (DC 18).

Fly 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21
Dispel Magic 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

Decipher 2nd-level scrolls (DC 17).
Rope Trick 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34
Web 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Mirror Image 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Blindness/Deafness 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18
Command Undead 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Resist Energy 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

Decipher 1st-level scrolls (DC 16).
Mount 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
Identify 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
Reduce Person 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21
Shield 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

"Finally", Keon says softly to himself. "Time to prove to my father that I'm worthy of our family name."

Since we've been on R&R for 2 days, can I go ahead with my Spellcraft checks to add the spells to my spellbook?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

So are we almost ready to start?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

smurf

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

Did it change again?

Edit: I guess not. Your spell's duration must have expired :)

A gift for me! Oh, you shouldn't have! :)

I think it is a great idea if Lord will go for it.

I like your idea about the War College outfitting us even better. Ever seen a blue dwarf? I'm going to start holding my breath... Oh, apparently I've discovered the spell to transform into a smurf!

lol! C'mon! I was sipping coffee when I read that!

That's weird. Why did my avatar change? What have you done? :)

Or maybe our superiors at the War College could equip us with a couple of these wands :) Infiltrating Ustalav might be nasty work.

Let me know what you think.

I have always believed that having potions is a good backup to the cleric, and also don't the clerics now channel positive nergy to heal party members around them now?

I agree about the potions. I bought a few myself. It is cheaper to buy a wand though. A potion is 50 gp per spell vs. a wand that is 15 gp per spell.

You are correct about the energy channel. I've never played Ravenloft, but it sounds like it could be a bit heavier in undead than other campaigns. Having more healing options would give Kalgrin greater flexibility with his channels. He could use it for healing as well as damaging undead creatures.

I think Ibram's Inspiration power is going to be very helpful when it comes to healing too :)

Hey Ibram,

I'm not familiar with the Warlord class? Can you tell me more about these abilities?

Inspiration 3d6
Combat Leader +3
Commanding Presence +1
Hold the Line
Rallying Presence

Just curious. Thanks.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard 6 (Transmutation)

I'm here.

Can you tell me more about fear, horror and madness checks? What attributes affect these saves?

Kalgrin,

One more suggestion....scrolls. If you feel the need for extra spells you can buy scrolls. The price is 25 gp * spell level * minimum caster level.

If you bought a scroll of Aid, for example, then the cost would be 25 * 2 (spell level) * 3 (min caster level) = 150 gp.

Hi Kalgrin,

Looks good so far. One thing I'll point out is that you don't get those 4th and 5th level spells yet. You only get them when your Cleric level is high enough to cast those 4th and 5th level spells (i.e. 7th level for 4th level spells and 9th level for 5th level spells).

Keon,

Thank you for the feedback!

Oh bummer... I wasn't sure of that. I did look. :) I found nothing that said I didn't get access to them. I saw only that I received them as bonus. I wonder if this is something that just everyone knows, and wasn't spelled out in detail in the rules.

I am fleshing out background at the moment, and then on to gear. As a Cleric, do I need material components for my spells such that I should carry and make sure I provision them? I am open to suggested changes to anything on my character as I don't have the experience to know this or that is good or bad in practice. I am particularly interested in thoughts on gear, as this is where I will soon be fleshing out my character.

Kalgrin,

I think it states it somewhere in the rulebook, but I don't remember where. The book is rather large, so it's easy to miss stuff like that.

Some of your spells do require material components. Purchasing a spell component pouch should cover you for most of them. If a spell has a component list without a price, then it is assumed that you have that component in your spell component pouch. An example of this type of spell is Shield of Faith. It requires parchment with a holy text written on it, but it doesn't have a cost listed, so you have it if you bought a spell component pouch.

Some spells have components with costs. An example of this type of spell is Shield of Law. It requires a reliquary worth 500 gp, so you have to pay that much when you cast the spell.

Most spells don't have components that cost money though.

As far as gear goes, perhaps some magic armor, shield and a magic weapon to start. You might also consider a headband (of Inspired Wisdom) to boost your Wisdom (since that is your spellcasting ability score). There are other items on the Wondrous Item list that might be helpful. Cloaks of resistance boost your saving throws, Pearls of Power give you extra spells per day, etc.

We don't have a ton of money, so perhaps pick out all the stuff that interests you and then try different combinations of gear.

I hope this helps!
Keon

FYI Lord. I updated my PC's profile. I miscalculated my scroll costs, so I replaced the metamagic rod with a Pearl of Power (1st level).

Good idea!

I entered in a far bit, but I have more detail to provide. I think I should be finished by tomorrow.

Feel free to comment on any and all aspects. I welcome advice.

Looking at some of your profiles, I already know that I am going to change the formating of mine.

I also added my backstory too. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

I (aka Hadley Scrimrot) am getting there.... I did decide to go with the Dwarven Cleric. What I don't finish tonight I should be able to finish tomorrow during the day.

This is my first character I've created since 1st ed so if something looks funny, please ask, and I'll let you know what inventive algorithm I used to arrive at the numbers. :) Taking much longer to create the character than I anticipated.

Edit:
Argh!! I am about to jump off the roof. For some reason it didn't save my profile updates and all is lost. Grrrr. And it won't let me step back far enough in browser history to recover it. Now I know to enter all information offline, and then cut and paste. A horribly tough lesson to learn. I need to step away.

I did the same thing when I posted my character. This happens to many people posting long forum messages too. Hopefully, Paizo can make a change to their site to prevent this.

I'm looking forward to taking a look at your cleric. Seems like we have a pretty balanced party.

Okay. The scrolls that I have listed are the ones that I scribed after I added the spells to my spellbook.

Are you saying that you want me to add extra spells to my spellbook during the game (e.g. during a day off I could take an hour to decipher a scroll and then copy it into my spellbook (1 hour/level). Is that what you had in mind?

I was going off the comment that you originally made about taking a 10 to copy the scrolls you had bought to your spellbook. If any of those you bought need to be copied to your spellbook you need to do it in game. Any scrolls you get during the game that you want to copy are going to use the 1 hr/lvl idea and will still need to be rolled to make sure you are able to copy them properly

Sounds good. I'll modify my spellbook and scroll list to account for this.

Hello all,

Here is my wizard. I usually roll up 1st level characters, so it was fun to start at a higher level.

I bought several scrolls at full price in order to add them to my spellbook. I think I can take 10 with Spellcraft to add them to my spellbook, but let me know if you would like me to roll for each one.

I'll add a background for the NPC that was posted today.
