How much effort do you put into your Homebrew setting? Do you write your own Companion and/or Players' Guides, Glossographies, and Classes? Do you draw your own maps? Do you have your own creation stories? What is your DM philosophy when it comes to what to include in your game? This is why I ask... Over the years I have taken great pains to write my own creation story and basically my own 'fluff' heavy players' guide. It isn't even remotely entirely original - I make no bones about lifting, borrowing, and blatantly 'ripping off' other settings, worlds, pieces of fiction, real-world mythology, etc. Im not trying to get published - Im trying to have fun with my friends. It occurred to me that there may very well be other GMs out there that do the same and as such, they would be a great resource for data-mining. And as such, they may also be interested in exchanges of ideas for the express purpose of hijacking another's work for their own gain. So, in other words, tell me about your homebrews!
Sean, I have a left field question for you. Where/how did you get the name for the Cantorian Spring from the Gods and Magic book? The reason I ask is this. In my home campaign my friend and I, a few years back, came up with the name Cantori for our orcs. I only discovered the Cantorian Spring for the first time a few weeks back. I thought it a neat coincidence that the Cantorian Spring might have ties to humanoid origins. When I showed it to my buddy we got to talking, and for the life of us we couldn't remember where we got the name Cantori in the first place. We thought perhaps that you might have gotten inspiration from the same source as we did...and since we can't remember we were hoping you would. We had a similar situation recently concerning the Beastiary 2 concerning the inclusion of the concept of the Monad. We ourselves had recently been including inspiration in the campaign based on the Philosophy of Leibniz. It's always nice to see that other gamers - especially those who design the game - often draw from the same creative well of inspiration. Does that make sense? Anyway, thanks in advance for a response.
First, this thread is NOT a debate on whether or not you want/like/need Epic rules, etc. For those of you that DO use Epic rules, or plan to use them in Pathfinder - how are you planning on doing so? Initially I was thinking I would just use the Epic rules as is, but then I heard somewhere about a few alternative solutions. One thing I have been thinking of is hard-capping the base classes at 20, but stacking as desired. In other words, if you progress beyond Fighter 20, you could take levels in Rogue (or whatever), and just multiclass as normal. Any thoughts?
I have absolutely no idea if this is the right forum. Like an idjit, I gave some magic items out at my last game without actually designing them first (it was late, and I was tired). I gave out a set of Olidamarra's Dice from the ELH and the Knuckle Bone of Fickle Fate from the APG. Those aren't the problem. I also gave out a similarly themed d4, d8, d10, and d12. I did the work on the d10 (by which I mean I copied a similar item from another source) but I got nothing on the other three. Anyone want to help a brother out? Any and all advice is GREATLY appreciated.
I know that there is a map of the Inner Sea region. Has there been anything yet showing the placement of all continents? I know nothing super detailed has come out of yet, however, I was just looking for a general idea as to the size and global position of the rest of the world land-masses. If this hasn't been done, does anyone have an idea if it is slated or not? Thanks in advance.
Not sure this will even get a response, but I figure: what the heck. I have a campaign set in the early 200s CY. I was thinking of having the PCs be some of those first adventurers to open and explore the upper levels of Maure Castle - i.e., the unmapped ones. I am curious, has anyone else ever done something similar? Or are you aware if there are any fan maps of those "looted" levels?
<<I accidentally posted this to the wrong folder originally, so technically it is a repost>> Hi. I have desperately been trying to track down a couple of old articles that Erik did concerning the World of Greyhawk. Specifically "Ancient Cultures of Eastern Oerik" and "Brief history of the Multiverse". Does anyone have these, or know of a site hosting them? I would like to reread them for a project in my campaign I am working on and I dont seem to have them on my current PC. Any help or assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks
