Many months ago Kanika was a typical farmer's wife, hard working, but hungry. Her first child had not come, and she prayed to Pahrasma for her blessing. But, her prayers went unanswered and her village found itself in the grip of a virulent plague. Many of her friends and family died, and Kanika herself was caught in the grip of the fever. Her raving mind found solace in a thought, an ideal. The Ancient Gods of Osirian had protected these lands, could they protect them today? Barely able to walk she went into the village elder's home (he was one of the first to die) and found his library of scrolls. Somehow guided, she found a scroll with an ancient prayer to the Lady of Slaughter. Kanika almost laughed aloud at the idea. As she read the papyrus it spoke of Sekhmet's role: warrior, avenger and protector, too. The ancient cult was known for it's ability to ward off many diseases. Kanika smiled, and read the mystical words aloud. Her body was gripped by the purging energies as the fever was physically pulled from her. However, the curing was not without cost. Kanika knew she would not be able to save her village. In her soul she felt a scorching light, "Bring my word to your People!"
And so, Kanika recovered though most of her village did not. She walked away from her husband, he chose to cling to the new gods, and was of no use to her. Sekhmet called her on, to glory.
Personality:
Kanika used to be timid, but no more. She is not overbearing, but neither is she shy. Having seen the power and Will of the Ancient Gods she knows theirs is the path of Righteousness. Her favorite slogan is, "Remember the River from whence you came." Tradition matters, in as much as it is better than pointless innovation. Then again, sometimes expediency matters. Kanika would just shrug at the apparent inconsistency. "What do I know? I am but a farm girl and this is not the time to plant crops."
Appearance:
Kanika is not a petite or slender girl. The marks of a lifetime of labor: wide shoulders and childbearing hips, muscular limbs and a weathered beyond her years complexion. She keeps her natural hair cropped short, and normally wears a braided wig when not in her armor. Her eyes are dark and she habitually wears dark kohl to keep the glare of the Osirian sun out.
