Service Record
Kane o'Hare enlisted in the United Planets Protection Force (UPPF), a military organisation dedicated to the protection of a collection of border planets known as the United Planets League, at 16 years of age.
The UPPF trained Kane in the use of automatic weapons, but he never showed much talent for the longer weapons, his skill naturally coming to shine in the use of his sidearm. Kane was a bright boy and the UPPF knew how to utilize its assets correctly so, after his initial nine months of Basic, Kane was shipped off to a Medical Facility, where he began his training as a Military Medical Officer.
Eight years passed and Kane passed out of the Medical Training Facility as a trained Ships Surgeon, with the rank of Lieutenant, within the UPPF. He received a posting on the UPFS Glory, a Mars class Battleship, as a relief Surgeon.
He spent four years serving on the UPFS before being dishonorably discharged, or just ahead of being discharged, for reasons that were never fully disclosed.
Background
At first Kane believed in the cause they were being sold, protection of the planets, keeping the minerals and ores mined in the UPL, within the UPL, for the benefit of the planets. This changed over time however as the true function of the UPL became more obvious to him. The league was little more than a bunch of Merchants dedicated to growing fat and happy off of the work of the common man, who never saw much profit.
Kane began to shirk his duties, patching up the enlisted men perfectly but giving the Commissioned Officers less and less of his time. By this point Kane was the acting Surgeon on the Battleship and his disdain became well known.
His conduct, mixed with an on world incident where he took a swing at a higher up, earned Kane his dishonorable discharge. They would have set him on a one way trip to a cell, had he not managed to flee the planet they were docked on, Belorin V, with the aid of a smuggler, the Captain of the Bonnie Marie, an Orion Class transport vessel, Xander Thrane.
Captain Thrane took Kane on as his ships doctor, on his run to the frontier and they parted on good terms, Kane even managing to save one of the Captains crew, during a shoot out on a crappy little room. Kane earned the mans respect and they parted on good terms.
Kane awaits the arrival of a new opportunity, waiting to join up with a new crew and offer his expertise to a new group.
