It isn't something I would allow. I'm just going to ignore the silliness of it and give you my ideas about it from a gameplay point-of-view. Being an adventurer, it takes more than just putting a skill point in. Adventuring is more than a profession, it is a lifestyle and all Pathfinder characters are automatically adventurers. Your profession is just a part of the overall make up of your character. The sum of your character is an adventurer. It doesn't make sense to have it as a profession. That would be a recursive paradox, like having a machine with a component that is an exact copy of the machine. We are already roleplaying you being an adventurer. A profession represents prior experience in a vocation before becoming an adventurer or something you do on the side to support your adventuring.
I ended up making a custom class that is posted at the top of the page. Still not sure what to do with the paladin spell casting, though I am leaning towards keep it as is. Also, I have a question about exp. I am gaining levels very fast and am wondering if that is a problem? We are using the medium speed column of the advancement table. GM is awarding full exp from each encounter. Is this too much? I am going to hit max level very early and am afraid I wont be able to deal with the later encounters as I wont be gaining in power. Thoughts or suggestions please?
Glad I didn't dump Wis lower than 10. Was playing tonight and just met the Will save DC. A little campaign update, without spoilers: So far so good been smiting evil left and right. None of the people I have been protecting have died so far and I have made it to level 3. Without any other party members, leveling has been pretty fast. I've found a few magical items as well. Resources are holding up and am at full health. You know perhaps I should start a thread in character with spoilers, no idea if that is a good idea though or if anyone would be interested, I'm not that good of a writer or rper.
Ssalarn, Bigdaddyjug, yeah I was thinking of doing that, it seems like a great idea. I will just add the Paladin spell list to the Oracle list. I'll have to look at the Oath of Vengeance thing (I'm really only familiar with the core rulebook). Thanks! Matt, yeah I could really see that getting confusing. On second thought though, this really buffs the Oracle casting due to all the spells known. I'm not sure how to handle that, but it is important to keep this simple. Select spells known from cleric or paladin lists, or just have full access to paladin spells to cast spontaneously?
Wow, you people are all amazing, thanks so much for helping! Just to let you all know we started playing and so far so good, made it to level 2! I've used two of my five first level spells and am at max health of 25 hp. I wanted to keep my character somewhat simple, as I am new, so this is what we did: Made up a new epic class: the Paragon of Light So it has all the class features of a paladin, plus the bonus feats of a fighter, and the spell casting of an oracle. I haven't decided yet if the paladin spell casting will be dropped, and would like your opinion on this. The armor abilities of the fighter also look pretty tasty, again, would appreciate feedback on this class. Human 2nd Level Paragon of Light

AC 21 MsW Warhammer +6 1d8+3 F8 R5 W6
GM decided on a 375gp limit, so I'll drop the horse. Buying: Banded mail
For feats I'll take toughness, exotic wep Bas Sword, and combat expertise. Though, would power attack be a better choice? Perhaps drop the bastard sword for a long sword: toughness, power attack, and combat expertise.
Thanks Gerald, Titania, Ssalarn,XMorsX, and BigCoffee. In addition GM is letting me get whatever non-magical/masterwork gear I want. Thinking full plate, bastard sword (with the feat), heavy wooden shield, lance, and light horse with chain shirt barding (keep the mount in light armor so I can valiantly run away quicker).
This is really helping me out guys, thank you. I'm thinking of just sort of 'dipping' from some other classes. All the oracle abilities plus the paladin abilities seem to make things rather complicated. Okay so this is what I am thinking right now: Paladin with oracle's spell casting and the fighters bonus feats (and access to feats that require fighter levels) with these stats: S 16 D 12 Con 14 Int 13 Wis 10 Cha 16
I had to look up what a gestalt was, so not familiar. Pretty new to this and a bit overwhelmed. I don't know about paladin gestalt, as it already is a mix between fighter and cleric, but I love the premise of the paladin. Paladin|Fighter or Cleric seems redundant. Perhaps Paladin|Fighter|Cleric? This seems complicated. Maybe just a paladin with fighter bonus feats and the cleric spell progression and spells?
I was hoping to avoid playing multiple characters. We are both new to pathfinder and the extra paperwork tends to get in the way. I suppose you are right and I'll need some cohorts, but perhaps a 30 point-buy will help, maybe starting with some magic equipment? Definitely could use some help from some experienced game masters on this. We are both new to pathfinder and would like to keep the GM and me from having to play multiple party members. |
