SPECIAL ABILITIES
--------------------
Arcane Strike As a swift action, add +1 damage, +1 per 5 caster levels and your weapons are treated as magic for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Bardic Performance (standard action) (12 rounds/day) Your performances can create magical effects.
Bardic Performance: Distraction (Su) Counter magical effects that depend on sight.
Bardic Performance: Fascinate (DC 12) (Su) One or more creatures become fascinated with you.
Bardic Performance: Inspire Courage +1 (Su) Morale bonus on some saving throws, attack and damage rolls.
Bardic Performance: Sea Shanty (Su) Allies can use your perform check result for saves vs. Exhaustion, fatigue, nausea, or sickening, or gain new saves.
Bardic Performance: Still Water (-4 DC) (Su) Reduce the Difficulty of Profession (Sailor) and Swim checks down to a minimum of DC 10.
Battle Dance (move action) A Dawnflower dervish is trained in the use of the Perform skill, especially dance, to create magical effects on himself. This works like bardic performance, except that the Dawnflower dervish’s performances grant double their normal bonuses, but they only affect dervish.
Battle Dance: Inspire Courage +2 (Su) Morale bonus on some saving throws, attack and damage rolls.
Besmara’s Blessing: +1 Perception, +1 Profession (Sailor), reroll Profession (Sailor) check 1/week, taking higher result. Announce use of ability before results revealed.
Besmara's Tricorne (1/day) Spoken command word transforms hat into a small boat for 8 hrs. Also, grants +2 competence bonus to Profession (Sailor) and Swim.
Pirate Queen’s Blade***: Use Dex modifier instead of Str modifier with rapier.
Familiar: Master Giles (Parrot)
Sea Legs (Ex) +4 save vs. air & water effects, and against being knocked prone. +2 CMD vs. grapple, overrun and trip.
Shackles Seafarer +1 Knowledge (nature & geography) when on ocean. +1 Swim and it’s a class skill.
*Dawnflower Dervish reflavored to fit Besmara
**Normally, these 2 archetypes could not coexist because they both replace Bardic Knowledge. However, since their themes work so well together for this character concept and the overlap only occurs in one place, I worked with my GM to houserule that I simply would gain neither Bardic Knowledge NOR World Traveler, but only Dervish Dance (Pirate Queen’s Blade).
***Dervish Dance feat houseruled to affect rapiers instead of scimitars, befitting Besmara

Background:
I have no family.

I need no family.

For I have a home; and as far as I’ve been able to tell, a home is all a man needs.

I grew up on the docks of Quent, having washed ashore there some 22 years ago. Old Mumply, among others, holds to the elaborate tale that I washed up in a boat, a rapier at my side, and swaddled up with a Besmaran pearl, simply inscribed with The Pirate Queen’s own Skull & Crossbones. None knew then, nor know now, how I got to be in such a state, but well… wouldn’t be as interesting a story if they did, I think. And interesting it is, for most in these glorious isles know that such a pearl is the result of a successful pilgrimage to Besmara’s Throne, a feat not easily accomplished, and certainly not by a wee imp, barely cast out from the womb. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s the curiosity of the birthmark born upon my right forearm. Clear as day, The Black Lady’s symbol, just as it appears upon the pink pearl that I wear on a cord around my neck to this day.

None of these things much mattered to me as a wayward son of the ocean, flitting from dock to dock and ship to ship, doing whatever was asked of me so long as the endless surf was within view. Probably the only times I’ve ever been comfortable within a mainland building was tracking down Lady Tessa Fairwind from tavern to tavern, listening to her extraordinary tales of reckless raids, swashbuckling danger, and glittering treasure. It was the life I saw lying before me, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t imagine my own infamous tales being spun from Lady Fairwind’s own beautiful lips…

Over the years, I put in the work; swabbing poops, cleaning bilges, patrolling the docks, you name it… I practiced relentlessly with the rapier I’d been found with as an infant; I studied for hours at a time the intricacies of sailing; I popped my cherry at The House of Stolen Kisses; and I did my best to ingratiate myself with the various rapscallions of the sea. And I did it all on my own. Sure, there was Old Mumply and the other old codgers of the docks when I needed a favor, but really there was just me. Me and my home.

The dreams didn’t start until I was about 18. They came in flashes at first; incoherent and nonsensical. But as time went on they started to become clearer, and I began to see the story they told…

It’s the story of a baby born aboard ship just before reaching The Holy Isle at Besmara’s Throne. Born to a devout priestess of The Pirate Queen on her pilgrimage to the isle and bearing the goddess’ mark on its right forearm, the infant was brought before Laharra Seaspray, the high priestess of the isle’s temple, upon the ship’s landing. After communing with the goddess, Seaspray became wracked with visions which brought her to her knees. In the aftermath, the priestess refused to reveal the contents of her visions, but only told the young mother that her Holy Labor would be the most difficult that Seaspray had ever had to assign. The mother must fully offer her defenseless, infant child to the Pirate Queen. It must be placed into a boat, all alone, and set adrift for The Black Lady to do with what she would.

And so it was that a freshly born babe was washed ashore by the docks of Quent nearly 22 years ago.

In the years since the dreams began, The Pirate Queen and her mission for me has become the driving force of my life. Everything I had ever done seemed to have already been moving myself in this direction anyway, so why start to resist now? The sea sings my name, and I have begun to sing back. For I have begun to feel its magic coursing through my veins; the creatures of the ocean have been known to answer my call; and I swear that I have felt the goddess herself touch my very soul on occasion.

Now, in my 22nd year, I continue to move from ship to ship, ever working towards the moment when my destiny reveals itself to me, not so that I can let it sweep me away, but so that I grasp hold of it, vigorously, and truly take control of not only my fate, but that of the entire Shackles.

I may have no family, but I do have a home; and the ocean is a very large home, indeed…
