About Kai v
When kai was born he was backwards. Normally when a Kitsune is born they are born human looking. Kai was born full Kitsuni. Fox face and all. His father Zen was a Kitsuni and could shape change. His mother was human his older sister had master shape change but Kai seemed to been born backwards. He could not change to human,. Like his older sister
As he grew older. He still had not mastered it.
. Orcs invaded their small farm. Killing his mother and father. took his older sister who had hid Kai away. These monsters served some demon or devil that wanted slaves or a more horrid fate.
However Kia hiding place was found. the young Kitsuni boy was made him a slave. For five years he served as a wizard servant. The wizard Yensid. Observed the boy as an oddity or a pet. A companion to the wizard daughter. Michelle. Or often went by the nickname‘ Mickey.
Kai legs where manacle and hobbled so he could not run away. Yensid always knew where the boy was by the rattling of his chains on the floor. Then at night he would be put back in a cage. His ‘home’.
For five years Kia was a slave to the wizard and cleaned and the entire house work. Mickey did the cooking and was training to be a wizard herself.
Form his cage sometime Mickey would show Kai what she learned and spells she had mastered.
Something in Kai stirred. A spark had been lit. When he was alone at night he repeater the things Mickey had shown him and found he had the knack. But needed no spell book to recite spells from.
Kai knew he could not remain a slave he slowly engineered a plan of escape using his change shape ability. Another skill he practiced in secret. He could turn himself from a fox face boo to a human one. An ability he knew he had but never could figure it out until now.
So he began hiding small amount of lard under a loose stone in his cage. He had been eating less and could almost slip between the bars.
He needed the key to unlock his chains. For even when changing form. It did no good. He had human feet in both forms. He would just have to figure something out.
When the wizard left on an extended journey. He knew that would be the time. With Mickey let out at sun up and putting him back in his cage at sun set as per Yensid instructions.
Kai liked Mickey and had to do this on his own. He feared Yensid wrath if he found out he somehow learn of Mickey assistance. Thus he kept the plan to himself.
When he enacted his plan. Mickey barred his way. Kia had wrapped anything he could find about his bound leg iron. He even tied a rope to this manacle and to his waist so they would not drag on the ground.
Mickey said nothing. Then produced a key to unlock his chains. The only flaw in his plan. He had never said a word of his plan not wanting to have the wizard be mad at her. But she could tell he needed to be free. A friendship bloomed between them. So with Mickey unlikely but not unwanted help Kai escaped. He shaped changed to a human and vanish into the night.
Time passed and Kai earned a living with playing a flute on street corners as a boy. A skill he learned on the farm having carved a flute by his own hand. But the sound of those chains haunted him. He began where bells on his ankles as an accompaniment to his flute playing. For two years he was a street perfumer and storyteller relying on his charm and wit. He knew he needs to be more exposed and gather allies. Thus he joined the pathfinders.
