Each will have their own benefits and drawbacks, more or less unique to the category into which they fit.
So far, categories I've come up with include Miner, Bronzewood Lodge Member, Gambler, Entertainer, Twilight Lodge Brethren, Mine Manager's Employee, Garrison Soldier, Hired Muscle, and a few other general ones like Acolyte, Craftsman, and Apprentice. Anyways, I could have sworn I'd seen a thread some time back which had something similar. I can't seem to find the link on the current thread listing, but does anyone recall what sorts of bonuses and drawbacks might have been in that thread?
(Example: Hired Muscle. (Requirements: Intimidate 1, Gather Information 1.)

It hasn't gotten you rich, though, and now you're thinking it might be a good time to strike out for adventure on your own. +2 on Intimidate checks and Gather Information checks, -2 on Diplomacy checks.)
Hey Kurukami, did you ever finish the categories you mentioned here? if so, would you mind sharing? thanks!
Hello everyone, I'm in a little bit of a crisis and could use some help.
I need scanned copies of some pages out of the hardcover book. If someone already has them, I would love if you would share them. I'm at work and don't have access to a scanner and need these pictures today to get some prep stuff out of the way with one of the players.
The pictures I need are:
Todd Vanderboren when dead in Wee Jas temple (page 209)
Spell Weaver coffin (page 214)
if anyone already has these or can get these to me, I would appreciate it very much and forever be in your debt.
You can email them to me at jfwallace (at) gmail (dot) com.
Thank you!

hmm, not sure man. Any item that would compete with the sunblade would go over the GP limit. though I've always thought Luck Blades (with 0 wishes) and Swords of Subtlety were kinda cool. Or maybe a scabbard of keen edges.
I've not really used the treasury as the only means of getting magic in the city. I've used it for the main way, yes, but there are other methods. I also don’t expect her shop to keep up with the level of the PCs to be able to provide them magic throughout the whole campaign. I see her as having the lower priced magic items for the most part, rings, cloaks, neat small items and stuff like that, mostly under the city’s GP limit. The higher priced items the group would have to go to Sasserine or have them made. In my campaign, the temple of Wee Jas can make items, but you get put on a waiting list and they get made when they get made. And there is a nice markup when going that method as well.
plus, the city has been growing in my campaign (lots of new half-orcs and perhaps people who used to live in the jungle or surrounding areas have moved to the city for safety), maybe the limit has gone up a thousand or two, enough to go to 16,000 to get some items that have a higher price range.
as far as Skie's Treasury goes after Foundataion of Fire, I also would like to have an update to the file.
the volcano doesn't erupt till chapters 9 and/or 10. That gives chapters 6, 7, and 8 to continue to sell items. yes, the players are not in the city in chapter 6, but others are. people will still be buying and selling things to her. if the inventory isn't updated in chapter 6, then it feels like the PCs are the only ones shopping there. it would seem more real and dynamic that things continue without them.
As for her leaving after the eruption, I don't know. I feel that Skie has a certain loyalty to Cauldron and her clients in the city (with all the signatures and names on the outside of her building). Sure, the city is hurting, but would she just leave it? If people are going to stay behind to help rebuild or continue to live there, I think she would stay to help out. If that means keeping her shop open to continue to do business with those people still there, so be it. she wouldn't abandon the people or the city. besides, she loves stories. What better story could she have than to survive an eruption and then continue to do buiness afterwards? if the PCs are successful at the end of chapter 10, it says the city can be rebuilt. I think she'd stay.
just my opinion. :)
I have a question on what you guys think of the timeline of the invasion.
How many days after the riot/fire does Skellerang leave Cauldron with his army of half-orcs for Redgorge? At the beginning of the chapter it says he has been planning the invasion for some time. With the riot and the attack on Minuta's Board, I would think this would give him the go-ahead for the attack.
How long would it take him to get his army together and start marching? Redgorge is what, a day away from Cauldron? So would take him about 2 days to get there with his men? But when does he leave?
I'm trying to put some pressure on the group as they are traveling looking for Alek. One of the characters is a Strider and he can get information from Meerthan letting him know that Skellerang has left Cauldron. Also, Jenya probably would send a sending to the group to let them know and urge them to hurry up to find Alek.
What do you guys think?

Hey all, I could use a little help.
I'm looking for an issue (of Dragon I think, but could be Dungeon) that a previous DM used for a game I was in a couple years back.
From what I remember of it, it was a guild of assassin's that had a headquarters under some island out in the middle of the ocean. In the headquarters were several portals that lead to other areas of the world, they could use these portals to jump from place to place rather quickly.
The headquarters had the portal room, several bedrooms, a temple, a lab, and a vault guarded by golems. I think there were keys to controling the golems that also were the only way to open and lock doors in the headquarters.
Further, to use the portals you had to have some sort of magical tatoo.
I know a few of the members of the guild. The leader was an evil priest. There was a female halfling assassin (I think her name was Amber, but I think it was short for something).
Also, I seem to remember some druid that they had killed to get access to this place and she was haunting the place and there was a big whale as well..
does any of this make sense or does anyone recognize this? It could have been several that he put together but I seem to think it was one article that had all this in it.
Any help would be much appreciated!
One thing I'm a little confused about is if the Lord Captain thinks the Chisel is planning against Cauldron and has taken his "army" to deal with them, then why would he stop when it is learned that Alek wasn't acting of his own free will when he made the challenge? That just frees up Alek. The Chisel still supported him in that and in the Lord Captain's eyes still would be a threat to his and ultimately Lord Vhalantru's control of the city. In my mind, he'd continue the assault, wouldn't he?
If so, how would you handle this? I've never done a large scale battle like this and wouldn't know where to start.
Hey all, I need some help please.
Does anyone have a scanned copy of the picture of the Cathedral of Wee Jas on page 206 of the hardcover? I thought I had a scanned copy of it and I don't and I need it for my campaign pretty quickly. I don't have access to a scanner at the moment.
If you do, would you please email it to me? jfw at bellsouth dot net.
Thank you!
PandaGaki wrote: If you're interested I could allways post the info about this npc and his shop as he is when I started SC PandaGaki, I know it's been a long time since you posted this, but if you are still on these boards, would you mind posting this information for us to use? Thanks!!
Cold Steel, when you said the 2nd Cormyr Gd, did you mean "Volo's Guide to Cormyr"?
One more question, is there any more information on either the Drunken Morkoth or Tipped Tankard in the module other than what is in the Cauldron overview? If so, what chapters are they in?
The one flaw I see with this module is a lack of an index..
thanks for the suggestions guys!

Hey all, I'm starting up a new campaign for the Shackled City. I've not read the entire book yet (yes, I know, bad move, but excited about this module and wanting to get started), but I'm going ahead and letting the players create their characters and backgrounds. I've given them a great deal of information from the book as I know it so far and from other sources on the web.
I have two characters working on backgrounds that I need some suggestions on. #1: I have the characters roll up social class in order to get an idea of where they fit into the city and get an idea of their backgrounds. One of the characters rolled well enough that his parents are probably well off. He wants them to own an inn and run it in town. I know some inns would be bad for them to run, but am curious what inns would be ok for them to run? Just by looking at the names, he liked the Drunken Morkoth. Would that one be ok? Or should I just create a new inn and say they own that one?
#2: I have another character that is playing a Coutier (from swashbuckling adventures book). His character is from a well to do family and needs to pick a patron as per his class, a noble who has taken a special interest in him and is sponsering his development and advancement in the courts. He picked Lord Vhalantru as his patron. Should I discourage him from this, or should I just let him go with it and have Lord Vhalantru use the character to influence the group in future actions?
And suggestions on how to deal with this would be much appreciated.
Sean, thank you very much. I emailed you at the address above. They are exactly what I am looking for.

Hey all, just bought the Shackled City HC the other night and I love it. It's a great book and I cannot wait to get going on it.
I've been reading through the posts here and want to say that it's really cool to have a group like this that is willing to help each other out on our campaigns. I'm also impressed with the RPGenius web page. It is very useful and I've already downloaded a lot on it. It is missing something though, and I have a request to make. I've already put this request up on that board, but thought it couldn't hurt to put it up here as well.
I'm looking for scanned pictures of the NPCs that are throughout the book. I know that Icebreaker has a download available on the other web site, but the pictures are a little small and they have a green border around the pictures. Does anyone have the pictures without the border and the same size as they are in the book? My group is a very visual group and it would help out with these pictures. I'd rather not just show them the module itself.
I could scan them, but hoping someone else has already done all that. :)
Any help would be appreciated.
