In fairness I have to mention that I have run the entire Second Darkness adventure path as GM, so I'm well familiar with the campaign. I think I'm pretty good at separating player knowledge from character knowledge, but I wanted you to know upfront. And of course, I'll be happy to give you some tips from my experience if you'd like to PM me.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

I'd be really interested in Shattered Star or Shackled City. I don't know Jade Regent or Iron Gods, but I'm willing to look into them.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

I love to explore different game systems, so that's not an obstacle to me. I'm also fine with different genres. Modern-day occult sounds like a lot of fun.

Like a few of the others have said, Juid is not really playing the way I imagined. I think I could and would contribute a lot more with a skill monkey, because infiltration and exploration aren't areas where he has much to give. But I feel like this group needs a driver and it doesn't seem to have one. I would likely start over with a different character.
I really like the concept behind your world here and the whole 'these characters have grand destinies' idea. I also think that you've done a really good job as GM, with believable NPC reactions, great interactive maps, plenty of description.
Given your quality GMing, I'd be up for trying something else, whatever it is.

Juid gasps as Ragnar is hit but settles down when the caster remains on his feet. "So now, we run?"

Heh, sorry pal... I always forget how much of a jerk Czein is until he gets a chance to be one xD

No worries. I could have had him land on his feet and do something else, but I thought this was truer to his character.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid will use his move action to rise inelegantly and dust himself off.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

"You can count? Backward?" Juid stammers out as he's lifted and hauled forward.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

While trying to paddle to the best of his ability, Juid injects, "That temple to Pharasma might be a wondeful target. Not only might we free up some resistance fighters but they might also have some useful resources hidden away."

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Before Marit makes off, I unload my journal and scroll case from his saddle bags and show her a few basic commands that Pisîm knows, including work and stay.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid glances at the dhampir in surprise and then realizes she's joking with him and smiles. Then he wonders if she IS joking with him and his smile tightens just a tad at the edges.

"While I believe in omens, I think counting is merely a handy convention. I can certainly wield the wand, and it will allow me to use my spells to better, or rather, other purpose. However, if there is another who can use it, it would be handy to double up our healing in a pinch."

His eyes continue to wander down the shoreline looking for a raft. When he doesn't find one, he considers how best to ensure that Pisîm isn't devoured by a hungry animal.

"Marit, if something should happen to me in the town, I hope you'll make good use of this fine beast." he says, scratching the donkey between the ears.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

"You are probably correct, Marit, though I have never tried. Perhaps there is a raft?" he ponders, looking around hopefully. "Normally I wouldn't think twice about leaving him here to graze for a day or two, but with weasels here the size of rocs, I'm loathe to do so this time. Just how deep are these waters? Is there perhaps a place to ford them?"

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid exhales at the hearty slap and nods in acceptance of the gratitude, as he rubs feeling back into his shoulder.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Worried about infection, Juid fetches water from the village's source - well or stream - and moves forward to wash and examine Czein's wounds. He flushes out the bite wound, watching for any signs of "water-fright". After doing so, he invokes the aid of Sarenrae and channels positive energy CPE: 1d6 ⇒ 4 to undo the rodent's damage, first making sure to put enough distance to between them and the creature.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid fires off another bolt, trying to avoid hitting nosering.
firebolt: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (8) - 4 = 4
Aiming too low, he fires it off into the ground.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Charge is an exception to what Crystal said. "If you are able to take only a standard action or a move action on your turn, you can still charge, but you are only allowed to move up to your speed (instead of up to double your speed). You can’t use this option unless you are restricted to taking only a standard action or move action on your turn."

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Concerned by his colleagues' lack of success in even touching the dire weasel, Juid quietly moves Pisîm off to a safer spot, a fire bolt readied if the creature comes within 30 feet.

Let's get this out of the way just in case.
RTA: 1d20 ⇒ 7

Huh. If someone manages to cast hold monster on him just before my attack, AND I catch him flat-footed, I might have a chance!

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Very quietly, Juid tells the others, "These villagers were slain not more than a day ago. I'm not an advocate of killing forest animals unless it's for food or self-defense, but these people deserve funeral rites. And... am I mistaken or is that a frigging enormous weasel?"

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

With Perception 15, can Juid tell from the odor how long the bodies have been there? Not sure what kind of a check that would be.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid nods to the half-elf (take 10 for 15 Perception) and then reddens perceptibly as he looks at the half-orc and sees the extent of his wounds.
He withdraws the treasured holy symbol, holds it over the half-orc and, trying not to make too much noise, converts his wounding spell into a curing one. CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
He follows this up by channeling to heal. CPE: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Well, I would love to cure like that all the time!

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid reaches out a hand as if to interfere with Czein, but he himself appears undecided as to what alternatives to offer and grimaces as the action is executed. He speaks a short prayer over the four corpses and then calls Pisîm to him.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

"I'm not a strategist, people. If none of us are, then I suggest we end this interview and get to work trying to recapture that town."

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid loves to talk but he is not a strategist, so he has no idea what to ask to help us recapture the town.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

"Just a moment. Explain this jewellery on your tabards."

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Speaking to the group, Juid interjects, "While I understand that it is hobgoblin nature to do so, I don't feel we can allow them to loot and enslave this town if it is in our power to stop them. On the other hand, this situation developed because other humans drove them out of their last lair. If we manage to drive them out of this one, they'll just go in search of the next poorly fortified town. Somehow the circle must end."

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid calls his donkey over and extracts a roll of hemp rope from his saddle pack. "Good Pisîm", he says, rewarding the patient beast with a scratch between the ears.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid dismisses the dog while trying to interpose himself between Flexx and the hobgoblin.
"Don't kill him. He's helpless and he may be able to help us with information or other aid.

He surely does. He's threatening the same creature from it's opposite side. And he applied one for himself. Unless the hobgoblin's got some nasty high rogue levels.

Sir Woofington of the Radiant Choir has been added to the map. For some reason adding a sunburst to a dog portrait has made me ridiculously happy. I have him on green since Ragnar targeted yellow with his spell.

Calling upon the powers of his God, Judi casts Power Word: Dog and an evangelical canine descends from the heavens to bite a hobgoblin. Flexx sees an excellent flank with his opponent and neatly ripostes, skewering the hobgoblin once more.

Ragnar then concentrates on a hobgoblin, his eyes glowing with eerie power. The hobgoblin grunts, looks at him in confusion, and then collapses on its face, snoring loudly. Crystal murders the local flora.

Czein is still up!

Tapping into his sacred summons power, Juid moves forward and casts summon monster I to summon a small celestial dog that appears behind the western (left on map) hobgoblin attacking Czein, so that it and Czein are flanking the hobgoblin.

Note that the sacred summons power makes this a standard action spell.

The dog barks aggressively and immediately tries to bite the hobgoblin using its smite evil ability.

Because two of his allies have moved forward, Juid moves forward before casting to make certain that all of his allies are affected by the bless spell.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

With the foes too far away for his limited repertoire of attacks, Juid casts bless to give all allies within 50 feet of him a +1 morale bonus on attacks (and saves against fear) for the next two minutes.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

In alarm, Juid gestures to the others to stop and be quiet. He looks around for obvious places to hide himself AND a mule, thinking that diplomacy is out of the question with this sort.
Perc: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid admires the technical wonder and shrugs his shoulders. We have talented friends here who might get past that device, but I haven't a clue. I can, however, provide some spiritual guidance.
Juid casts guidance on whoever feels he or she can get the lock picked.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Aye, I must confess to being mightily curious about it.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid shakes his head at the uncanny similarities, yet finds himself clueless as to what they mean.
There is clearly something about all of us that drew the attention of whatever band of mischievous magic-users was scouting us before we were magically transported. As I look around me, it is clear that this common element cannot be the timing or location of our birth and is very unlikely a common heritage. Might we all have been born under a certain arrangement of the stars?

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Enjoy the holidays!

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid tosses himself to the side to avoid what looks like an assault. When he realizes that he was mistaken, he gets up to brush himself off. "Can we find a more secure place to plan? I'd prefer that a patrol not catch us with our pants down."

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Czein's plan is a little... bloody... for my tastes but I do think ambushing a patrol is a clever way of getting information and access into the town. We might even borrow their uniforms to get close enough to the gate. Perhaps someone has the ability to charm one or more of them into assisting us?

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

That is despicable behavior and cannot be condoned. chimes in Juid.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid level summary:

+5 hp, add stabilize (0 level) and inflict light wounds (1st level (seemed wise with Crystal in the group)), increase same skills except add 1 rank in Handle Animal for Pisîm.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid first looks open hopefully, thinking his deity has something in store for them personally. The appearance of the familiar sigil invalidates that notion. He prepares to be transported yet somewhere else until the half-elf appears. Juid winces as Sutandir hits the stone floor with a thud.

Sutandir sees an old man with his head shorn and the almond-brown skin of the Keleshites, wearing modest robes and the holy symbol of the Dawnflower. He carries no obvious weapons, except perhaps his walking stick. Near him waits a laden donkey, its eyes impassive, the soul of patience.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid will aid him to ensure that everyone heals. He openly thanks Sarenrae for her favor in seeing them safely this far.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid moves quickly to stabilize her if possible. Is that still a Heal check?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Juid rushes down the corridor and sees the setup. With a prayer to Sarenrae, he shoots off a firebolt at the spider, accepting the minus to not hit Crystal or the others.

ranged touch attack: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (10) - 5 = 5

The bolt pounds into the ceiling over its head, singing a few webs.

Hi all, I'll be traveling around Florida for the next two weeks. Please don't let Juid slow up the group. Feel free to bot him as needed, just in case my Internet access is sporadic.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

Juid double moves into the room before the hallway Crystal has entered, bringing Pisîm with him. He keeps his eye out for trouble, ready to fire a bolt of divine fire at it if need be.

Male Human Cleric 2 | AC 11 T 9 F 11 | HP 13/13 | F +3 R -1 W +7 | Init -1 | Perc +5

"That seems reasonable, Ragnar. But let's see what Crystal has discovered." Juid listens to the scratching she pointed out, trying to determine if there is any rhyme or reason to it.
