About Sebastion Gwerm

Stat Line:

HP 26/27 | AC: 21, T: 11, FF: 20, CMD: 17 | Saves F +4, R +2, W +3 | Init +1 | Perception +1, Sense Motive +5 | Status: Normal

Concept Points:

1. Sebastion is a vulnerable hero. His vision will continue to fade as the story progresses. Mechanically, I will explore ways to negate these effects, starting with the Blinded Blade style feats.

2. He is the shield, both in concept and combat. He will be built to protect others and would work extremely well as part of a shield line. He will also be able to stand alone.

3. He is the anvil, upon which others are broken. He will be built to outlast his opponents and survive.

4. He is selfless, keeping no more than he could use.

5. He is likable. He is handsome, physically fit, with a great smile. He is hardworking, modest, and honest.

Goals:

1. Sebastion would like to save people, as many as he can.

2. I would like Sebastion to be part of a shield wall formation in a fight and inspire others to overcome their own limitations.

Secrets:

1. Sebastion doesn't know anything about his father and he's scared to find anything less than an honorable man. He won't ever talk about his father but he does day dream about him being a hero. He often makes up his own stories to himself about his father falling against a horde of demons to save others.

2. Bryant is Sebastion's grand father, but neither are aware of their relationship.

Acquaintances:

1. Sir Horus, an elder paladin and Sebastion's commander. More good than lawful, he tries to keep Sebastion sheltered somewhat, feeling somewhat confused about the near-blind boy.

2. Bryant, a simple begger. Formerly a soldier but too old to fight anymore. He and Sebastion often talk over meals and share stories.

3. Lady Fellworth, an acolyte of Iomedae, she helps to teach Sebastion, often reading to him passages of Iomedae. She has a bit of a crush on Sebastion but he is oblivious to it. Even if he did notice, he's too preoccupied with being a soldier and learning about Iomedae.

Memories/Quirks:

1. Sebastion is selfless. He is willing to give his life to protect others. He gives away as much money as he can afford to. He volunteers his time to help others.

2. Most nights he dreams of Iomedae, or what he believes to be Iomedae. He often replays the first dream over and over in his mind, looking for signs to confirm his belief.

3. Sebastion is polite and respectful because he believes in honor. He doesn't insult people and speaks matter of factly, as if he knows what he is saying is the absolute and unquestionable truth.

Story:

Sebastion Gwerm was born to a minor noble family in Kenebras. His mother spared no expense of the family's fortune to educate Sebastion as a young boy. He was a fare student, but didn't excel in any particular area of study. His childhood was happy and filled with love and it would be those sentiments that he would carry with him throughout his life. He was loved so he loved others and it was this love that opened his heart to others.

Sebastion was a popular child, in part to his status but moreso because of his good heart. In between his studies, he would volunteer his time to help those less fortunate and in doing so, he made more and more friends and acquaintances. After a while, people just came to calling him "Bastion" for short.

Shortly after his 10th birthday, his life was forever changed. A few demons managed to break through the protections of the ward stone. Bastion was outside the city walls that day, bringing food to those who had none. As the alarms were sounded, his mother made her way out after him. Sebastion was able to stand against a demon for a few seconds, enough time to give others a chance to run to safety. As others ran, his mother ran towards the danger and her only son. She arrived right as her son fell. With her bare hands, she attacked the demon. It quickly slew her but others arrived seconds later and were able to dispatch the demon and get the boy to safety. It was a miracle that he still lived.

Sebastion spent months recovering from the wounds the demon had inflicted, and years recovering from the loss of his mother. The wound itself festered for weeks and despite some of the most powerful, and most expensive, healing magic in the city, it still took months for the boy to recover physically. It was almost as if the demon itself infected the boy. His vision started to fail and the weapons used against the demons burned him with cold fire as well, as if the demon had left part of itself within him.

His uncle Horgus kept in his care and continued to raise the boy who was slowly becoming a man. Sebastion eventually fell back into caring for others but it wasn't enough. He missed having a role model in his life. His uncle was a good provider, but was a petty and greedy man. Sebastion knew that if he couldn't pull his weight, he probably would not be welcome with his uncle.

Even after his body healed, his mind was still in pain. Nightmares plagued his sleep and he rarely left the estate for many months. One night, during a particular bad nightmare, something happened. A figure appeared in his dreams and pushed back against the darkness. She brought the light not only into his dreams, but into his life. At first he thought her to be his mother, but the way she fought against the evil convinced him otherwise. Since that dream, that awakening, he found he could summon a little magic through force of will alone.

He began to regain himself and started to look for this woman, in books, through scholars and eventually the church. Once he discovered Iomedae, he knew he had found her. He continued to study her, her teachings and philosphy, and it was here that he dedicated himself to her. He began training immediately, both physically and mentally. He hardened his body and learned to use weapons. He donned armor and shield and the sword and the sun. Unfortunately most crusaders would not have him. He was near blind by the time he was a man, and despite his status and good nature, most considered him and his family name to be merchants at best, and poor soldiers at worst.

He would not let others sway him. He had faith in a higher calling now. With what money he hadn't given away, he bought a suit of chain mail and the biggest shield he could find. He sheathed his family's longsword at his waist and set out to help man the city walls whether the soldiers wanted his help or not.

Special Abilities
--------------------
Dual Talent - Some humans are uniquely skilled at maximizing their natural gifts. These humans pick two ability scores and gain a +2 racial bonus in each of those scores. This racial trait replaces the +2 bonus to any one ability score, the bonus feat, and the skilled traits.

Martial Flexibility - At 1st level, a warsighted can use a move action to gain the benefit of a combat feat she doesn’t possess. This effect lasts for 1 minute. The warsighted must otherwise meet all the feat’s prerequisites. She can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + 1/2 her oracle level. The warsighted can use this ability again before the duration expires in order to replace the previous combat feat with another choice. If a combat feat has a daily use limitation (for example, Stunning Fist), any uses of that combat feat while using this ability count toward that feat’s daily limit. At later levels, when she gains multiple feats through this ability, she can use those feats to meet the prerequisites of other feats she gains with this ability. Doing so means that she cannot replace a feat currently fulfilling another’s prerequisite without also replacing those feats that require it. Each individual feat selected counts toward her daily uses of this ability. At 7th level, a warsighted can use this ability to gain the benefit of two combat feats at the same time. She can select one feat as a swift action or two feats as a move action. At 11th level, a warsighted can use this ability to gain the benefits of three combat feats at the same time. She can select one feat as a free action, two feats as a swift action, or three feats as a move action. At 15th level, a warsighted can use this ability to gain the benefit of one combat feat as an immediate action or three combat feats as a swift action. This ability replaces the revelations gained at 1st, 7th, 11th, and 15th levels.

Build Notes:

Sebastion will take levels of Paladin on his figher side as he learns to embrace Iomedae more and more. He is a defensive combatant, prefering to shield those around him as much as possible rather than inflict damage on opponents. Most of his abilities will be aimed at this and his mythic path will by Guardian. He will be straight oracle on his other side.
