The hunter on the stolen lands:
Ah, the River Kingdoms. Much maligned, and not in vain. Once a land of honest to the Gods people now filled to the brim with brigands, abusive lords and other kinds of scum... yet there are still good men and women living out there, trying to make a living with their own hands. Trying to survive and more importantly: to thrive. Jonathan's family counted among them. Descendants of the people who once roamed the Stolen Lands, their was a simple life of hunting, farming and trading to fill their bellies and their souls with a warm meal and the good company of family and friends.
Jonathan's father, Jack, was a capable hunter. A priest of Erastil, as his father -and his grandfather before him- was, his was the sacred duty of keeping their small village protected, fed and united.
That's how Jonathan's training to become the next Crestfallen to guide the village started, but fate wished a different thing. When he was sixteen years old a murder of harpies moved to the hills close to the village and suddenly the land was too dangerous for them.
The five families moved to New Stetven, and for most of families nothing except changed. But not for Jon's.
The day Jack died was the day Jonathan Crestfallen become Hunter Jon. And Hunter Jon wasn't going to adapt to the city life. Hunter Jon needed the fresh air, the vast expanses and the open sky. Now Jon lives at the border, more or less. Some months he spends inside the Stolen Lands, some months he returns to Brevoy to trade and seek human contact. He gets by with the pieces he hunts and the items he craft from wood, bone and skin.
That he has yet to conquer the land and thrive.
Personality:
Jon is a simple man who enjoys as much a long day at the forest as a long conversation surrounded by music at the inn. A man with a need to prove himself able to survive, he spends months without returning to civilized lands, always on the hunt. Always searching for a signal or a clue. He is proud of calling himself a hunter because to him there's more to it than killing an animal. It's an ancient job, passed from father to son along the teachings necessary to prevent men from abusing the land. Despite technically being a priest of Erastil, Jon isn't very zealous about his obedience and prayers. He believes that acts weight more than words and that while he lives by the tenets of Old Deadeye, he and Him are good to go. Jon truly believes that humans are meant to conquer nature, to mold themselves to be its kings or to mold it to become one with it themselves. And because of his strong but inner faith on Erastil and his teachings, Jon suffers.
Description:
From afar, nobody could distinguish Jon from another hunter, outdoorsman or mountaineer. Some would even find hard to tell him from a bandit like those found in the River Kingdoms. But once you get close, the differences are obvious. As most other hunters, Jon has long decided to ignore any and all possible temporal fashions, wearing clothes that are more useful than pretty or that help him blend better with the environtment when he is hunting. But he tries to always remain clean of dirt, blood and other stains. He isn't really tall and only slightly brawnier than most, but his agility is obvious at a glance. His movement is fluid and elegant like those of wolves and predators, self-confident and proud. Not specially handsome by human standards, his green eyes cath attention easily as they are actually beautiful and his is a look filled with wisdom. |
