At the sound of the call of fire, Jon politely extricates himself from Athena. "Duty calls, miss. We'll figure this out when the fire's out." He checks that his newly etched pistol is securely in its holster and his scorpion whip is looped neatly on the other side and rushes to the library with the others.

Jon, I think you misunderstood. I said that you can procure the dragon mouth pistol from Absalom in a week. The ghost touch rune is available in town from Captain Longsaddle at the Otari Garrison and Carman can etch that onto your striking pistol. Otari is a level 4 town so none of those formulae are available here, but you can purchase them in Absalom, during the same 1 week period that you wait for the dragon mouth pistol.

With regard to hitting a square with your freeze ammunition in combat, I would rule that it is a DC 5 attack roll.

Well, one of the points of it is that it can't be modified, which includes by the MAP. Yes, Assurance is dumb to use for the first attack action, but it allows me to do better than with my attack mod and a -5 MAP and WAY better than with my attack mod and a -10 MAP.

Anyway, here's the formulas I sent off for in the order with my pistol. All are Common.

  • Rank 5: Moderate Aberration Bane Ammo (8 gp)
  • Rank 5: Moderate Elemental Ammo (Fire) (8 gp)
  • Rank 5: Freeze Ammunition (8 gp)
  • Rank 3: Moderate Sticky Algae Bomb (3 gp, this one technically might have been found in Otari since it's rank 3, but if it wasn't, it can go in the order. It doesn't take penalties for being used underwater, which I thought could come in handy at some point.)

Also, ghost touch runes are rank 4, so they should have been available in Otari, but if they weren't, I wouldn't have sent my pistol away to Absalom for a week for any reason (it's Jon's baby!); if I couldn't get the rune here I would have paid for it to come on a runestone and had the local enchanter transfer it onto my pistol here, so what would the transfer fee be?

@GM Ruling Needed for Freeze Ammo:
So Freeze Ammunition states that if you hit a square with it rather than a creature, it deals 2 splash damage and covers the square in ice, which creates a hazard and makes whoever's standing in it roll a Reflex save /Acrobatics check to not slip and fall prone, but 2e doesn't have rules for targeting squares. The 3 solutions I saw proposed were 1) Import the rule from 1e where hitting a square was AC 5 (so firing is just fishing for nat 1s) 2) Treat the square as a stationary object and make a ruling (probably ~AC 10?) or 3) Just assume a character is competent enough to hit a 5' square without having to roll. What do you think?

Assurance actually only adds 10 to your proficiency mod to get the total, not ability mod. My proficiency mod is 5 level + 2 bonus for training= +7 so 17.

Alright there's 3 votes for selling the lantern so consider it sold. I'm also going to consider the shield sold as well. If Grym decides he wants it after all he can buy it for the sell price (50 gp). With that said, by selling the loot we will receive 140.32 gp each

I'm assuming Pen takes the minor sturdy shield since he's our shield guy and Mac takes the +1 dorn-dergar since he was just talking about getting one?

@GM The remaster removed the melee weapon-only restriction on Ghost Touch runes and they now can be etched onto any weapon. Would I be fine then to get one etched onto my pistol? They're rank 4 runes. Once we sell our loot I'll be able to afford both the rune (75 gp) and my dragon mouth pistol (7 gp) even if we end up keeping the lantern. I'll probably also be looking at ordering some rank 5 ammo and bomb formulas in the same order as my dragon mouth pistol depending on whether we sell the lantern or not.

So if we sell everything checked off on the Loot Page (which is everything except for quest items and consumables other than the viper arrow, which none of us can use anyway), we'll get 97.82 gp each. If we also sell off the lantern of empty light, that will bump it up to 127.82 gp each.

The question is, do we want to sell the lantern and if not, who is claiming it?

For my 2 cents, I'm thinking that the extra 30 gp each might be a better boon to the party than two situational 1/day abilities. Fascinated is a really easy condition to break in combat and the other ability is pretty situational (4d8 vitality damage against incorporeal undead). You can get moderate ghost charge bombs that work on all types of undead, not just incorporeal, for 10 gp each which deal 2d8 vitality damage and rely on our aim, not on a basic Will save against a static DC (20) which will only become more and more obsolete as we level.

(My vote goes to selling it.)

Going back to town now is fine. I'm going to look for a dragon mouth pistol (essentially a 1-handed blunderbuss) to keep in reserve for hitting swarms in the future since they deal splash damage in addition to regular damage. I only just a few days ago read up on how scatter works. :P

Sorry, I had thought persistent damage was rolled at the time of the attack that caused it, not at the time of taking damage, wasn't trying to metagame.

Sorry, I'd have to draw the bomb before I could throw it, so I can't bomb this round, and want to get out of range of his tendrils. I'd be obliged if Grym could sustain the Bless spell to increase the radius and put me back inside it for my next turn.

"That key is a talisman I could activate to make me a bit luckier picking locks for 1 minute. Pen, could I borrow your repair kit to attach it to my armor?" Jon asks.

Sneaky key is an armor talisman that gives you +1 to Thievery checks to pick a lock and adds 1 success to your first success towards picking a complex lock for 1 minute. IIRC I'm the only trained thief in the party so I'll take it.

How much is it to transfer the +1 rune to another weapon?

It looks like each of us get 21 gp 3 sp 2 cp by splitting the coins and selling the katars once the runes have been transferred off.

So my shopping list is going to be:

True, Jon, forgot about the whip. But since in you're in a dungeon, I would assume that you are walking around with pistol and whip out.

Since Into the Fray gives me 2 free draws on rolling initiative, I don't actually carry weapons in my hands so as to keep my options open, and I had specifically not drawn my whip so I could draw and throw that ghost charge bomb last turn.
