Sorry to hear all that. My two boys' epilepsy is well controlled thankfully. However when they get really sick, those seizures can come back with a vengeance. I've spent more than a few nights in the hospital with one or the other of them. I'm glad things are going better.

John puts the Professor down gently when he winces in pain. A look of shock comes over his face as the professor describes Jacqueline. He stutters "Jacqueline? A professor? Here in London? That is not the Jacqueline I knew."

John shakes his head, "Oh, I'm not going anywhere. Let's get you back inside Professor. We even have the smoke of the fireworks in the house." He laughs. "Not the first time I've seen death up close and I am not worried about the cops. My lawyers are too good. We should start cleaning at the door and work our way inward. One of them in there was your friend or colleague was he Professor? What should we do with him? They others we will need to dispose of."

John looks to Billie and says "She was an old friend of mine that I thought was lost in the war. I never saw her again after going into the line no matter how hard I tried to find her."

John gasps and then says "Madame La Rochefoucauld was not inside. I did not see any women other than these with us here. Did they take her? I've got a car around the corner and some heavier weaponry. We don't know where they went though." John sighs and seems 'diminished' as it dawns on him he last lost his chance at Jacqueline.

John shouts out "She was here! Has anyone seen a woman's body or any women in the house?" He runs down the stairs and seeing the man missing from the couch but on the front stairs moves out their. He asks the man tending him "How is he? Will he survive? I am hoping that is the professor that wrote me."

John looks around frantically She's not here! He then calls out "Khaled! Have you seen a women here or any evidence of one?" John then begins checking the closets, desks, bathroom for any sign a woman was staying here.

John replies to Khaled "If you see a way of putting out the fire go for it. We need to clear the house. I don't know what this professor looks like. He may have been the unconscious man in the room I was in."

John sees Khaled in the other doorway and someone else. He quickly says "This place is going up. Khaled help me clear upstairs." He points to the other man "You help her get that man out of here. Keep an eye out for Jacqueline. She was supposed to be here with the professor. Not that I know who that is." He then heads up the stairs to clear that floor.

John looks around for anything that can be used to put out the fire quickly. He then takes a shot at the man in the doorway.

So that is one feat and one Investigator talent to do what studied strike dose with melee weapons.

Under "Guns everywhere" {which I think is the game setting}

Guns Everywhere: Guns are commonplace. Early firearms are seen as antiques, and advanced firearms are widespread. Firearms are simple weapons, and early firearms, advanced guns, and their ammunition are bought or crafted for 10% of the cost listed in this chapter. The gunslinger loses the gunsmith class feature and instead gains the gun training class feature at 1st level.

I would have to rebuild my PC some what to fix the fact she cant use studied combat with her light weapons.

I think what I am asking is can I use my studied combat on range light firearms weapons without seemingly needing to pay this feat tax.

That is not a feat tax. That is a class limitation. Investigators are not meant to be ranged combatants, hence the need to take two feats. Elephant in the Room's effect would be to make it Weapon Focus (Firearms) instead of a specific one. In the spirit of EitR, I could see it also making Ranged Study apply to all firearms instead of just one.

One could say that if a feat has a prerequisite then that's a feat tax and should be eliminated. This is not what EitR is meant to do IMO.

John hears the bullets whistling past him and old instincts kick in. His pistol is up and firing at the man in the far corner.

John points at Khaled and then his door. Then himself and his door. He holds up three fingers and counts down to breaching the doors.

John moves toward the door in the room to the front of the house and points at Khaled and the door at the back of the house and waits for Khaled to be in position before opening the door.

John continues up the steps a little slower due to the slickness. His eyes darting around for danger. Seeing Khaled behind him he says to him "I was hoping you would check down the hall downstairs so no one gets behind us. Come on."

John gasps "No! Khaled hall, I'm going up!" His M1911 is in his hand and he begins moving in and up the stairs.

John smiles at Khaled "It is indeed. The letter said there would be others. I didn't expect to know any of them. How do you find London's weather?"

John went through his mail, bored like every day. Investment opportunity. Junk. Asking for money. Junk. Letter from Mom. Will read after I see what else there is. Autocar. Usually a good read. What's this one? Letter. John reads the letter with interest Lieutenant? Haven't been called that in a while. Wait! What?! "Holy s@!t! That is the first hint of Jacqueline since I went into the line. I haven't seen a trace of her since then no matter how hard I tried. John finishes the letter, eyes scanning faster and faster. The rest of the mail falls to the floor. "She's here!"

He looks around and see's Thomas eyeing him with worry. He smiles at Thomas "Jacqueline! She is in London! What's today? I meet her on the 1st." He hands Thomas the letter. Thomas looks up from it and says "That's not the nicest part of town." John looks back at him and exclaims "I know. I know. I'll take the Morris. Less flashy. Stash the 1906 and the Tommy behind the back seat. We'll need to clean those and my pistols. Three clips each and a box of ammo each. Make sure the trench knife has a good edge.... Pair of binoculars. Ahhh. What to wear? What to wear?"

Thomas watches John pace back and forth. "Sir, you act like you are going off to war. This is a meeting at a London address, not no man's land." John turn quickly to face him, "I lost her once and I won't let anything happen to her!" He takes a deep breath and says calmly, "But you are right Thomas, we have time. If enough maybe we should make sure the Morris is in tip top shape. I should arrive early and scope out the neighborhood. So much to do."

When the day arrives, John leaves early and tries to make sure he isn't followed. He gets to the neighborhood two hours early and spends the next one and a half hours walking the neighborhood, trying to keep to the shadows and getting to know the area. He finds a shadowy place to watch the front door for the final 30 minutes. When Khaled walks by he smiles and falls in a bit behind him. As Khaled bangs the knocker John says "I didn't know you were in London Khaled. It's been a while. Good to see you."

Equipment to Khaled's question about general gear, yes, you can write your equipment list in two forms: what you have on your person in general; and, what you have available to you when engaging in 'adventurous activities'.

Firearms I have made some adjustments to the damage of rifles. There was little reason to have one in comparison to a pistol other than range. Now rifles pack significantly more punch. ALSO, I am debating giving characters ½ Dex to damage to make guns just a bit more effective (because using Defense instead of Armor takes away one of their biggest boons). Or perhaps limiting it to those with the Amateur Gunslinger feat. Thoughts?

Automatic Bonus Progression and AC I realized that both Automatic Bonus Progression and the Defense bonus chart took into account the benefit normally gained from magic armor. As such, we will be ignoring the “armor attunement” bonus included in the ABP system. We will, however, be using the system at +1 level, so you get the benefits of a 5th level character. Also, please confirm your Defense bonus to AC from the campaign spreadsheet, I made some slight adjustments to the progression.

Connections I am greatly enjoying both the practice RP and all the potential connections between players. Once you are sure on any starting connections, please repost as just short, single sentence overviews.

Wealth

I would ignore this. We have all made characters with different backgrounds and I think we just have access to what we think they would. While John has acess to at least 5 houses and multiple cars and personally owns a few cars, a Harley and a plane that doesn't have a huge game effect, it's mostly just making a good story. The items that have the most game impact are going to be weapons and those are going to pretty much be normal weapons. John's 32 is probably masterwork but that is it. His trench knife and 1906 are government issue and most people can probably have gotten their hands on a masterwork weapon by our level of experience if they want to. Most wealth ends up in magic items which don't exist. If there are going to be some I would say it is best to just make them loot or rewards/payment. I don't think anyone in the group would be delving into what we are for money.

Firearms
I wasn't aware that the defense bonus was going to effect Touch AC. I thought it was basically just an armor bonus and wouldn't be in effect when a firearm is used in touch ac range. In my opinion dex to damage wouldn't help with taking away touch AC as that increases the likelihood to hit not damage. Part of my character abilities allow me to fire up to 3 range increments at touch in certain circumstances and that would make a big difference.

Khaled: Was a guide in Egypt in 1924.

I am not familiar with Imperium Maledictum. I don't have much experience in anything other than Rogue Trader. That game lasted for 6-12 months. The Dark Heresy etc have been games on here that didn't last long on didn't get off the ground at all. I'd give it another go though.

@Eva: John could have run into you in Paris or it's environs before the war while with your mother.

@Helena: We can go with tutor. Most of his growing up would have been American but, it's entirely possible he needed extra help with Latin. It is also possible that his family purchased books from her.

I started playing AD&D 2nd Ed back in college around '90 '91. Played until I got married. Everyone seemed to leave town around then. A friend from work invited me to a Rogue Trader game he was starting around 2010 and I joined some of them from that game in a Pathfinder game. I've been playing pathfinder, mostly on here, since then. I have played played Traveller, Twilight 2000, an old Middle Earth (long before the movies) game, Paranoia and a few others. I've been trying to try out some new systems lately just to see what they are like.

Been married for 29 years this October and have 5 kids, 3 in the house, two of whom are special needs. I've done a little of everything work wise and now take care of my sons.

To all my games:

My wife had an emergency c-section at 6 am EST this morning at 35 weeks and 45 years old. Robbie is 3 lb 11 oz and in the NICU. Both are ok.

I don't know what kind of access to here I will have for the next while. I don't have a smart phone or laptop currently. Please bot me as needed and if you feel the need to remove me, I won't be offended. Things are going to be hectic the next few weeks but I do intend to return to my games.

I should have been at 8 at the end of the last battle. Started at 12, took 11 dam and one more at end of round putting me at 0, not -1. I was then healed for 8, leaving me at 8 at the end and 20 currently.
