I think so

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Yes, we're going to follow the footprints. Give me a moment and I'll try and get the officer away from the scene so that we can gather some evidence."

Joe begins chanting under his breath, allowing energy to build up, and then unleashes it on the poor cop.

Use Magic: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9 It's a success with a glitch. My intent is to have the cop stagger away and puke for a moment.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"If we must." says Joe with obvious disdain.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

When Eugene returns, Joe will ask him "Any luck with the tracks?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

as Kyle begins moving again, Joe says "What are the first five words that you would use to describe what attacked you?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Joe quickly stands up and rushes towards Eugene at his cry. Seeing the Situation, Joe will attempt to undo the magical effect on Kyle. He begins chanting and moving his hands in a very specific sequence of gestures.

Use Magic: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 6) + 2 = 9 So since I get limited effect or a complication, I would like to suggest that when I break the spell, it alerts the mysterious man that there is another spellslinger in the area.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Silver?" Joe turns to him and adds "are you good at tracking?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Joe will share what he discovered with the rest of the group, adding "I wonder what sort of creature adds pieces of it's victims to itself. That might help limit the possible creatures it could be."

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Joe will also investigate, this time using his magic.

Investigate the Mystery: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 6) + 2 = 9
What sort of magic did this, if any?

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Deepest apologies all. This game was not updating for me. I apologize for not posting sooner.

Joe had spent the previous night taking what he had learned about the supernatural taint of the creature that had killed the man they No, I, he thought had accidently animated.

When he finally staggered awake in the morning, he saw there was a message. After listening to it, he dialed Silver and let him know, and then he sent text messages to the rest of the group.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Yarp, still here.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

feel free to do that.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Likewise. I'm waiting on Kyle to be brought into the proceedings and then we'll go from there.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Once they have left the morgue, Joe will pull Silver aside. "I'm sorry about bringing them. Edgard is...kind of my student; I'm teaching him about using his abilities. As far as Eugene goes, I thought he would be handy with computers, so I brought him with us. He apparently has a blog, whatever that means."

Glancing back towards the morgue, Joe will add "I'm not sure what happened with the ritual. These sorts of things have dangers, but I've never seen a corpse animate from the ritual I used. Something was clearly not right with the corpse. I'm going to try doing some reasearch to see if I can find out what could have caused it."

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Enough!" shouts Joe, who tries to pin it down so that he can remove the chalk.

Kick some Ass!: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 Potential marked.

Joe struggles with the corpse, but is unable to keep it pinned down.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Joe staggers back as his chanting continues, but then he sees his mistake: one of the characters got smudged, probably by his jacket!

Glancing down at it is almost fatal, as the creature attempts to grab him. He manages to jerk his hand away, but not before it gouges deep red lines into his arm.

Ignoring the pain for now, Joe says "Hold it down, we need to get the chalk off!"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Act under pressure: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 1 = 7

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Okay, let's get this out of the way:

Use Magic: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4 I'm pretty sure that means I mark potential and I would say something bad happens, so merry Christmas Zaitherin!

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

To steal an idea from dnd, my plan was to do something like speak with dead, and allow the body to answer some questions. I know that Use Magic is not the be-all, end-all, but I figure it's worth a shot. Let me know if something like this is possible, and I'll make the roll, otherwise, I'll just try to use magic to discern whatever I can from it.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"First things first." Joe waves his hand and mutters and the invisibility spell breaks with an audible *pop*. Joe will then move to the body and draw the chalk out of his bag. He will start drawing symbols on it's face, including the eyelids.

"One of you should keep watch to make sure no one is coming."

One thing that Kyle could do is see the door to the morgue open on it's own, get curious, and wander around until someone in our group sees him.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Sorry, I meant to tell you."

Turning to Eugene, Joe will ask "How long do you think it will take you to hack into that thing?"

I figure it won't be long until we get him in on the action. If nothing else, he can call Edgard to talk to him about their interaction earlier in the day.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"He can't see you Eugene."

"Hello Silver. What have you found?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Okay, now that everyone's here, let's head to the docks area of the Morgue building. We'll do the ritual there, and not out on the street."

Joe passes out the bags, which contain several double-ziploc bags of ground clear glass, four bottles of water, chalk, and a box of white dental floss.

Upon reaching the back of the morgue, Joe will find an out of the way spot, take each bottle of water and pour half out, then fill the other half with ground class, all while quietly chanting. He will then spool out 4 8' strips of dental floss and tie them together making a rough + shape, which he will then connect each end to one of the bottles. Finally, he will use the chalk to mark the cap of each bottle with a symbol. He will then hand a bottle to Eugene and Edgard and take the other two himself. Motioning for them to spread out, he will stretch his arms to make the floss and taut as possible.

As he works, his chanting gets louder, until finally with a flourish, Joe will swiftly toss one bottle, draw a knife from his coat, and cut the floss before catching the other bottle.

There is a twisting sensation, and then

Use Magic: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7

So it looks like I got the effect off, but there was a glitch. Looking at the list of Glitches, I'll take the 1 harm that ignores armor.

two things immediately happen: Edgard and Edward fade from each other's view, and Joe begins bleeding from his nose and one of his eyes.

"Okay, here is how this works. Each person can see the person directly across from them. Also, you each have about 8 feet of space to maneuver in. Go father and the spell will break for you. You can also choose to empty the contents of your bottle, which will end the spell for you and the person across from you. Finally, and this is important, the longer the spell goes on, the darker the bottle will become. Once it stops being clear, the spell will end for everyone, so we need to hurry. Edward you take point. I will be in the middle, and Edgard, you bring up the rear. Stay relatively close to me. Let's go."

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"The plan is, we're going to wait for one more person and then do a ritual to turn us all invisible. It's going to require us to stick together." Joe pauses for a moment then adds "How good are you at picking electronic locks? My friend said something about them having one."

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

I'm basically just waiting on Edgard to arrive so I can try and do a "Mass Invisibility" spell and then we can just walk in through the front door.....hopefully.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Joe was pulling shopping bags out of the trunk of his car when he got the first text, followed almost immediately by the second one.

Setting them down on the hood of his car, he flipped out his phone, read both, and then sent one to Eugene: I'm 2 blocks east and one block south. Come help me carry this stuff.

He was about to put his phone away when he shrugged and sent one to Edgard: How close are you?

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

As Eugene wanders out, Joe thinks to himself I wonder what Silver will think when I show up with an internet guy and a teenager.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"We'll meet up near sundown outside the morgue. I'll need some time to enact the ritual, and it will be good to get a lay of the land before we go charging in."

Joe pulls out a slip of paper, writes something on it, and then hands it to Eugene. "Here is my cell phone number. given me a call when you get to the morgue and I'll let you know where we're meeting up."

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Funny you should mention that. Myself and a couple of other people are going to enter the morgue this evening to take a look at a couple of bodies now." Joe pauses for a moment, picks up a note pad, and mumbles to himself "I will definitely need more glass."

Having made some more notes, he says "Well, it will be a bit difficult, but I think I will be able to make all of us invisible. I'll also be doing a ritual on a different body, so I can take a look at yours as well if you like."

"I do have a question though: If the hunter was out in the woods when he died, where did the picture come from?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Why are you trying to break into a morgue?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

That's fair. I think I had said that I thought you were dead, so let's just run with that.

"Hello sir. how can I assist....don't I know you from somewhere? I'm pretty sure we've met before. Let me see...You were in Ontario, weren't you? at the caves where those werewolves were living? I thought you were dead! How did you outrun a werewolf in hybrid form?"

Joe apparently completely missed Eugene's questions.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

So I know that we know each other, but I thought that we did not know we were here Eugene?

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"If he wasn't lying to you, it means that the creature requires something specific to kill it. Like the stories about a wooden stake of ash through the heart incapacitating a vampire, or inherited silver harming a werewolf."

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"No particular reason."

"So I and an acquaintance are going to be attempting to talk to the spirit of a murder victim that he believes was killed by supernatural forces, and then you show up and ask me about a supernatural predator. Would you like to join us this evening?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Amusing the Unseelie Court can be difficult. They traditionally tend to be on the harmful and dangerous side of the fey."

"As far as defeating a supernatural creature goes, I have a counter question: How did you sleep last night?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Aren't I the popular one =)

As Edgard enters the shop and makes his comment, Joe responds with "It helps people get in the right frame of mind. It also helps with the odor some people bring in. Conspiracy lovers are not the...most hygenic."

Offering Edgard the same seat that Silver was just in, Joe again flips his sign, takes a seat, and says "so, to what do I owe the honor of your visit?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Ya, I think we should get on site at the morgue and then do any shenanigans there. I even just now came up with an idea of how to allow you to investigate the body.

Since I have a reputation as a psychic, I think I'll make a distraction by saying the spirits told me to go to the morgue and speak to the ghost of the deceased. I can (hopefully) make enough of a ruckus that I can cause a scene without getting arrested. But first, however

Joe picks up his shop phone and says "Deeper Mysteries. This is Joe speaking. How can I assist your aura today?"

When he hears the voice at the other end, Joe will say "Sure Edgard, I have a bit of time before my next session. Come over and I'll help you as best I can."

Turning back to Maxwell, Joe will say "I've got to handle something. Why don't we plan to head towards the morgue this evening, where it will be less likely that someone will notice our entrance? As I said, it will take me a while to get what I need regardless."

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Why don't you reach out to your friend on the force and see if he'll help us. It's probably going to take a while for me to gather everything I will likely need to perform the ritual anyway. I figure worst comes to worst we can try bribing the morgue attendant, but let's see where the carrot can get us first."

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"The term dragon line is Chinese; They've also been called ley lines. The best way to think of them is like magical energy superhighways. They allow anyone who has supernatural power to, well, be more powerful. They crisscross the planet, and places where they meet tend to lead to interesting supernatural legends, because monsters are incredibly attracted to them, the same as people who work magic or have psychic powers. Such intersections are called nexuses, in the parlance of those who work magic. Yorkton, for your point of reference, has several nearby nexuses, making it a frighteningly potent area."

Joe gets up, goes and gets a refill, then sits back down and continues.

"The reason all of this is relevant is that someone drew alot of power from one of the local nexuses last night. Enough so that I bet anyone with even a little bit of psychic sensitivity had wierd dreams or nightmares. Something bad is either here or will be soon. The trick is to figure out what and where."

Joe smirks and says "That's part of the reason I run this shop. When people experience something supernatural, assuming it doesn't kill them, their subconscious tends to blank out the memory, or they remember it as someone else; a large, hairy man with knives, instead of a werewolf. Eventually, however, they come see me and tell me about this weird dream they had, or something they saw. I tell them something vaguely psychic sounding to calm them down and then I go to work."

"So, what we need to do is to take a look at the body. I should be able to tell you if something magical was the cause of death. Ideally, however, I would need to get several hours alone with it to pinpoint the style of magic, but it shouldn't take me long to tell if magic was used in his death. Do you know anyone in the coroner's office?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

"Well, that's certainly straightforward." Joe pauses thoughtfully for a moment and then adds "Of course, I'll be happy to help. I had some rather....visceral dreams last night, and there's something off with the dragon lines here. Are you familiar with the concept of dragon lines?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Joe perked up when he heard the doorbell ring.

"Good morning Silver."

When asked about the case, Joe will point to an area between two bookshelves and say "You can set it there, it's out of the way."

Joe will then offer Silver some coffee from a plug-in pot in the back, then move to the front door and flip the little Open sign to Reading in Progress. Please wait outside, then return to his seat and say "So, what can I help you with?"

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Chilly.

This was the first thing that Joe thought when he woke up in the morning. The floor is cold.

He staggered to the kitchen and got a soda from the fridge, which he immediately drank down. The old man never let me have soda He chuckled at the thought, which turned into a loud belch.

I have to get to work. Something wierd was happening last night, and I garuantee that someone is going to knock on my door this morning with an odd tale.

Joe grabbed another soda and took it into the bathroom, where he showered, shaved, and got dressed.

Finally sure that he was ready to face the day, he locked his apartment door and walked across the square to his small office. He unlocked the door, straightened the brochures with titles like The Interconnected Consciousness and You! and Are you a Psychic? Here are ten steps to discover your Inner Walker that were fanned out on a table near the door, and made his way inside. He set up his table and began burning the incense that was as much part of the act as everything else.

He then got changed: Black slacks, a white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled above the elbow, and a black vest over the shirt. For the piece-de-resistance, he added a silver pocketwatch that he got from a pawn shop two floors over.

When everything was ready, he turned the sign to OPEN and then sat at the table to wait...

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Dotting for now. Post to come later.

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

@Edward: How about this: You came to me to learn to control your abilities, and I helped you, but didn't explain why. Secretly, I know that in a previous life, you were also an actual psychic, and you helped me when I needed it?

Playbooks. Hunter Worksheet

Okay, I have included an entry from my history in parentheses below for each member of the group:

Joe and Silver:

I think (A comrade-in-arms. You’ve faced the biggest threats together.) could work with your idea.

Joe and Tin Man:

I think (You thought they were dead, and now they’re back. hat “killed” them?) could work for us, especially if we met before either of us arrived in Yorkton. Perhaps I watched you get chased by a monster while fighting a couple of my own and blamed myself for your death, which proved to be false because you managed to survive.

Joe and Kyle White:

How about (Your magic-fueled rescue of them introduced them to the supernatural. Tell them what creature was after them.)? Would this work for you?

Joe and Edgard:

Since you're a psychic, how about (Mentor from another life. Ask them what they taught you.)?
