I play quite often with my wife and two kids (10 YO boy and 9 YO girl). We all love the game but my daughter and I are the ones who will wear the cards down to dust. Love this game!!

Does the NPC Codex pawns box include the iconics? That'd be an option, if so.

Given they run in chapters, if you eliminated some extra plot-lines and tied together a few of the more interesting ones, you could make it work.

You could also pull the more interesting encounters from a chapter, "replot" them with something more in line with your own groups needs, and go from there.

Good luck! :)

I don't have my books in front of me, but I do recall that there are a number of examples in the GM's book, in the monster section. Giant Spider, Medusa, Serpentfolk, Snake etc. all had various examples. I'll check again when I get home and see if there was any others.

Welcome Axell! I'm also new to Pathfinder, but have been playing D&D for nearly 30 years. The Beginner Box is GREAT!

1) As I like the idea of keeping my game BB only, I bought the Bestiary for new monsters, but haven't yet purchased the Core Rules. The stuff I do use from it is free and legally online at http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ so I can pick and choose the elements I want (such as levels 6-8). Either way, those two books are a great way to continue OR supplement your boxed set adventures.

Definitely check out the free BB downloads here on paizo.com too. They have more of everything imaginable for the BB and are a great source of additional fun!

2) I use the blank map from the box with wet-erase markers, and erase as needed for space. The flip-mat basic you buy (not the one in the box) is double-sided blank, so you could always use both sides for your two level dungeon that way.

3) Precisely what IejirIsk said: Yes. Always roll with it if the players are clever. Enjoyability, humor, and pacing always trump tracking down specific rules IMO.

4) If you had a blast... and it sounds like you did... just keep on keepin' on! Way to go!

I'm gearing up my 10 and 9 year old for our first encounter with the Beginner Box. We recently played Hero Kids, an indy RPG that is available on DriveThruRPG that was quite simple and effective, but really got their imaginations going. I got into Basic D&D back in '83 at the ripe old age of 10, and it really jump started my imagination, a gift I'm still blessed with. I hope to keep the next generation going with this wonderfully crafted set, something I bought a year ago an instantly fell in love with.

I'll post a synopsis of our experiences afterwards. Knowing and contrasting my son's personality with that of the Golarion goblin, we're going to have a match made in hilarity...
