Janisha gives the two brothers a disgusted look as they stand to one side, elbowing each other and watching as the winged folk go for their pay. "Well now, it appears you're tougher than you look." She reaches into her belt pouch and pulls out six small pouches, each clinks with coins. Then she stops, and looks lopsided. "Hey, dimwits, you lost the elf thing."

The two brothers wince. "Nah nah, dey lose him, while on break in Vuomik! We 'tink ogre mages eat him." Gaje says quickly, holding up both hands.

Janisha looks at the brothers, then at the group, then shrugs. "Oh well, then I make a small profit. Assuming he doesn't show up in the next two weeks that is." She tosses the small pouches, one at a time, to the survivors. "Ten Kloven's, as agreed." Inside the pouches are ten lustrous coins made of platinum, one side with a gnoll profile, and the other side with a catfolk profile.

The two brothers seem disappointed, and Janisha laughs at them. "What, you expected me not to have plans if they survived? Idiots. I bet half the yard they'd come back at 2 to 1 odds. Covered their pay if they came back, defrayed the loss if they didn't. Morons... this is why Dah doesn't let you run the business. Speaking of which, he wants to see all of you before you leave, that means you two as well."

Both of the gnoll brothers suddenly stop laughing and swallow hard. "Dah's here?" Gaje says, his voice suddenly subdued.

Jorge begins fidgeting. "He in a good mood?"

Janisha huffs. "His left arm is in a sling, and he's missing the tip of his left ear, what do you think..."

The two brothers whine like puppies and droop, seeming to lose half their stature.

Janisha turns and rapid fire gives orders to her brothers, who stand there and nod, heads tilted to one side, tongues lolling out.

Finally, she turns back. "No, not this time. My father is away, I am needed here. These two will go with you, they're good wagon drovers, and they know where to go. You'll leave in the morning. The first stop is Lashsea Monastery, the Monks there ordered some medicines and wine rice. The next stop is Vuomik. New outpost, needs a wagon load and a half of general supplies."

She gives the group a map, so they can see, although it's a crudely drawn and hasty one. But it shows the Monastery and the Outpost. Map updated

The female gnoll considers, and finally nods. "Alright, now that you've shown me something other than talk." She holds out one hand, palm up. "100 Dinah for two weeks work, high threat. You get a share of any loot bandits have on them if you kill them, and also any bounties the bandits have on them."

Janisha shrugs. "I ask you what skills you bring... And you are silent on them. Other than some made up thing called 'sigh on'. If you want me to pay, you need to prove your worth. If you want to play the mysterious strangers from another land who are inscrutable and have secret abilities, then I'm not paying for that. You want to complain to me about not getting paid? Then show me something worth paying for. I can hire mercenaries to guard my wagons. But it eats my profits. I'm not going to pay you what I'd pay for known mercenaries with reputations when all you give me is 'I am a scout, I am good at it, everyone else is good at what they do'."

The gnoll shakes her head. "Oh, no, I was planning on giving you 5,000 Dina worth of cargo, a 1,250 Dina wagon, and four zebra worth 200 Dina each having just met you, after all, you probably jumped ship and are therefore worthy trusty souls. I'm sure you'd not disappear with my cargo, wagon, and zebra."

The gnoll barks in laughter. "Jorge, Gaje, you two get ready. We'll be sending that shipment to Vuomik sooner than we thought."

The two big gnolls begin to pant, tongues hanging out happily. Little yips of excitement send the two scrambling to grab their weapons. They banter back and forth in Gnoll, laughing and comparing muscular arms as they do. Based on the looks they give the avians, the muscle comparisons are obviously to their detriment.

Janisha continues. "Alright, you can sleep in the back of the warehouse if you don't have a place, or be back 2 hours before dawn. Either way you prefer."

The gnoll strokes her jaw thoughtfully with one hand. "One delivery run and return. About, oh, two weeks or so. If you don't screw it up."

The gnoll looks completely confused. "What is 'Sigh-on'?" Then she shakes her head. "Never mind..." She looks over the group again. "So, you want a job to gain a rep huh? Ok, so you'd work for free the first time, to get a rep, and then if you do a good job, I know how much you're worth for a second contract. Agreed?" The Gnoll look at Sammark with a calculating look in her eye.

The three gnolls act overtly hostile and wary throughout the attempted negotiations. Finally, Janisha taps the two on the shoulder with her staff, barking something in Gnoll. The two reluctantly step aside, and she advances on Flick. "Open mouth elf-vian. Show teeth."

Assuming Flick opens his mouth and shows nice square teeth

Janisha looks at Flick for a full minute, then relaxes somewhat. "Outlander, you need to think of a better name for yourself than Elf." She spits out the word with disgust. "No matter what you add to it. They are disgusting base creatures who revel in blood and necromancy and the flesh of their enemies and even their own kind."

The two larger gnolls reluctantly put their weapons back on the walls, and begin picking up the desks and righting them. They also pick up all the papers and ink and charcoal pencils that got spread everywhere.

Janisha steps back and nods. "Very well, a not elf scout. What else, other than the obvious opportunity to add some feathers to my collection?"

When Flick says that he is an elf, the demeanor of all 3 gnoll's change. The two who were previously cowering behind desks becomes all business. Each grabs their weapons from the wall, and fling the desks back and away with one hand, sending the wooden desks plowing into the corners of the room, clearing a battle area in one smooth motion as they step between the party and Janisha.

The female gnoll for her part gasps, and steps into a defensive stance. The tip of her staff glows, and her hand begins to move in a very distinct pattern. "What do you think we are, you elf!?" The way she says elf is heavily laced with disgust. "Clan Ganash does not hire cannibals and sadists! Begone foul creature!"

You might remember having seen some elves recently...

From the door in the back a somewhat smaller gnoll comes in, sporting blue dyed fur and what looks like blue dragonskin trimmed clothing. She is carrying a staff. Apparently she picked up on the last bits of the conversation, because she walks over to Jorge and promptly slams him on the back of the head with a staff. The much larger gnoll howls and dives behind a desk, saying something in Gnoll and rubbing the back of his head. Gaje dives behind a desk as well, also complaining in Gnoll.

"SLÅ OPP!" The female gnoll tells them both in turn, and then turns to the group. "My apologies..." She has a thick accent, but appears to be able to speak more clearly than her brothers in a more universal dialect of common. "...Please ignore those two. My father is on a business trip. I am Janisha Gashan, and I am in charge, and we will not be buying people. You wanted a job you say? What are you good for, and why should I hire you."

Sense Motive DC 15:

Jorge and Gaje aren't all that scared, but they are completely deferring to her and don't seem to have any intention of arguing with her.
