Jerry knows enough about magic rituals to know that he doesn't know much at all. He knows that sometimes having a person standing in the right place saying the right things can be helpful, and he's willing to do that if needed. What he sees as his primary role, however, is to stand at the ready to beat back anything hostile or unexpected with his nightstick or to grab onto anyone who's being sucked through any sudden portals that may appear.

You know, really useful stuff.

Jerry picks up the book and starts to flip through it.

"Something tragic happened here," Jerry softly mentions, mostly to acknowledge the malicious emanation in the room, hoping to calm it somewhat.

Jerry checks the bedside table, then the wardrobe, and then under the rug for anything that might indicate the story behind this room.

Jerry puts his ear next to the padlocked door and listens. If he doesn't hear anything, he'll give a short rap on the door and listen again.

Having hung back to make sure the fainted receptionist was okay and resting comfortably, Jerry catches up a few moments after Jessica and Carlos.

"What happened?" he asks the waiters. No matter their answers or how they react, he'll say "Let's check it out," to Carlos and Jessica and step in to follow Kavax.

Hey, I've fallen behind in all of my PbPs. I kinda-sorta knew that I had taken on too many, but life got busy over the past week and then most of the PbP campaigns got busy, and all that drove the point home. I've dropped out of a few, and now I'm trying to catch back up on the others. Apologies for holding anything up, and feel free to bot me if necessary.

"I'll get us checked in," Jerry says to the others. "If you have any ideas to figure this mess out, go for it. But if not, I think maybe find some of the other loopers, and find out what you can about what kills people. Where do the threats come from or at least where are they encountered? Do we know of all of them?

"Maybe we can tackle each threat separately, or maybe they have a common cause that we can tackle, instead. But we really don't know enough."

Assuming everyone agrees, Jerry approaches the desk and tries to make the same arrangements that the group made for rooms, "yesterday." But halfway through check-in, he pauses and feigns indecision.

"Look, I... know that with the weather outside, I don't have much choice in where we can stay, but I've got this hang-up... Is this hotel safe? Like, up to code? And fully inspected? Do you have up-to-date safety and inspection reports and all of that?"

Have we asked what happens if someone just goes to sleep when it gets later? Do they wake up the next morning (to repeat the day), or has something actively killed them?

Jerry tries to ignore the cold long enough to look around and confirm that everyone in their group has come back through the time loop. Assuming that's the case, he thinks about the creature they got a terrifyingly brief look at, to see if anything identifiable about it comes to mind.

Sorry things are so busy for you, but not really much has happened, Carlos. Because roleplay.

Going back to the last time you posted in Gameplay, we talked a bit about using this past to affect our future, but it was generally agreed to be a bad idea.

We made it to the boiler room, which is maybe not looking safe? I think that's what was trying to be conveyed, but I'm not sure if the idea is that all boiler rooms look unsafe, or that this boiler room looks un-safer than most.

I, personally, due to my non-boiling upbringing couldn't even tell you what a boiler room looks like or is comprised of. I think it's for heating water for a building. And I've written too much about my ignorance of boiler rooms at this point to look anything up.

Jerry turned on his headlamp and Jessica turned on her flaming sword, and they are walking deeper into the basement. One of the directions turned into a natural stone tunnel, and that's where the party has gone. The further we go, the colder it gets. We've come to a fancy door, and we've just declared that we're going to open it.

"We're here and the door is here; might as well check it out. I'll open; you be ready."

Jerry briefly touches the door handle with his fingertips the way one might test to see if a pot handle is hot, only he's concerned about supernatural cold. If he doesn't think he can safely grab the handle with his hand, he slides his nightstick around the handle and tries to open the door without touching it.

Jerry moves down the corridor past Jessica. He has a flashlight attached to a headband that he pulls out and turns on to light the way.

Jerry stops when he hears the conversation about changing this future/their past. He gives a deep sigh and then continues on.

"Even if we can't leave this night, I guess we could mail a letter or make a phone call. I could warn myself about the inmates that... that killed him. Even if I don't mention that they're vamps.

"That would save him, but... I've done a lot of things since I became a Hunter. Would all of that go away? Doesn't seem right that I maybe save one person who's important to me to let dozens of others go."

Now:

Jerry agrees to head to the boiler room. He left his shotgun in the truck (again), but he still has his 9mm in his holster, and his nightstick that he wraps up in a beach towel and carries under his arm.

"My gut is telling me that the cold is just a contrivance. A reason to kill, but not really the cause of it. If you go out in the cold, you'll still get hit.

"Let's go talk to these people in the bar to find out what we can. But I think we won't get any real answers until we can encounter whatever it is that kills the people that stay in the hotel."

There's nothing else Jerry wants to do until happy hour.

Jerry's head whipping around to his right to stare at Jessica serves as his greeting to her, but he doesn't look alarmed or even tense up at her arrival this time. Instead, he gives a wry shake of his head and a quick shrug of the shoulders that might be a chuckle.

"Hi yourself. I figured if you were going to be here for this one you'd most likely show up about now."

Indeed, Jerry (and anyone else who wants to insert their PC in to the story here) was standing right on the summer-side of the winter snow line. His beaten old truck is parked on the edge of the road about 30 feet away. He hooks his thumb at it.

"Trying to decide if I should drive it to the parking lot or risk leaving it parked on the side of the road."

Jerry was feeling particularly protective of his vehicle right now. Apparently, Samyaza, first of the Grigori, father of the Nephilim could roll-back the universe or whatever, but he couldn't adjust the alignment or fix whatever was causing that damned knocking noise. Not having a direction after the warehouse incident or many immediate answers, the Hunters in the area dispersed to do their own things for a couple weeks. Working Hunters don't tend to make a lot of money, and non-working Hunters don't make any money, so Jerry had worked some odd jobs to raise the funds to finally get his truck tuned up. He'd hate for it to get towed from the side of this road. He'd also hate for it to get caught in a supernatural snowstorm.

Jon, are we near Urbana? If so, I guess we can head in that direction. If not, we don't really have any indication where to head for ADVENTURE! Or if we did, I missed it.

Jerry looks up from his truck's inspection to nod at Jessica.

"Thanks, I had forgot. That's a good point. Can you teleport someone with you? Because if someone can stay with you, that will make me feel a lot better about leaving a teenage girl alone in the desert in the middle of the night."

Jerry is silent for a long moment after Samyaza has disappeared. And the he sighs.

"I get why we all asked the questions that we did. They all seem important, but I kinda wish we had gotten him to tell us where we are."

Jerry looks around the starlit desert, trying to detect the light pollution of any nearby towns or cities. Failing that, he looks for any sort of landmarks in general. Then he walks over to his truck to make sure it's still in one piece.

Jerry had raised a calming hand to Jessica, but she finished her turn before he could say anything, so he let it drop.

Looking over at Carlos, "You're up. We know a little bit about how we got here, and we know somewhat specifically who didn't want us at that warehouse.

"Helpful things to know could be what's next for us or even where the heck we are, but we might just also figure those things out with just a little time."
