Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Well 4 of you have found the site at least. Make sure you have a read through the players guide to get a feel for this campaign. It also has suggestions for classes to help you build something that will better fit this particular adventure.

Also, the alias I've posted with here has a background I wrote for a Ustalav game. It wasn't carrion crown, but it gives you an idea of the type of background that can help me tie your characters to the campaign better. See if you can get something posted into this thread for us to read.

To see the background story, just click on the name beside the Avatar (Irian in this case) . That takes you to his character page.

Cheers
Hughesy

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

I'm going to have to bow out of this one sorry to say. Too muh on my plate since I'm now running two games here. I wasn't really getting a feel for Irian or the game, but that's most likely a consequnce of my time constraints at the moment. Cheers

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian nods to Paye, indicating to teh man behind the desk tha she's in charge. He caught her little message earlier and agreed that moving too fast now might cause mroe trouble than it would solve.

"The girl here wants to talk to you. I'd be obligin her if I was you". His tone is harsher than he'd hoped for, again proving that some of his old habits were hard to lose.

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

My family are all sick with the flu at the moment, meaning I'm the only one up and running. I'll need a day or two sorry folks. I'll try to get on and post something tonight, but busy and tired so no promises. Cheers

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

As the bard distracts the children with her games, Irian nods to the dwarf and the warrior to accompany him. He unslings the bow and carries it loosely in his hand, but as yet has no arrow readied.

He moves across to the door and indicates he is ready to enter behind the two warrior types.

Hopefully no trouble comes of this he thinks to himself. It would be a hard thing for the young ones to watch someone die

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian watches the beautiful womans performance briefly, smiling slightly as the children are taken in by her act. His eyes return to watching for signs of trouble, wondering if he would be called to kill for his mistress again this evening.

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Children Irian thought to himself as his eyes dart from side to side, taking in the details and scanning teh shadows for trouble. Anotehr complication we don't need.

He moves to one side, trying to find a more shadowy location to keep his features and even his location from being easily discerned. His hand was ready to gather his bow if trouble were to come, but he didn't wish to spook the children. Their cries may give his positon away or warn those they were tracking about the groups presence.

Let the girl talk, planty of time for my style of questioning after we catch the one as killed the pathfinder. His eyes kept moving.

Perception1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25, stealth if possible 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian's eyes narrow slightly at the conversation aobut summoning creatures comes about. "Might be best to leave the beast where it is for now. I suspect the fine folk of this small town would take note of something like that walking amongst them. Either way, let's be off and get this done. Every moment takes or quarry further away from us and leaves the trail colder."

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian takes the rangers hand and shakes it firmly, noting the weapon calluses on the dwarf's hands and the firmness of his shake.

"Aye, Irian it is. A pleasure Ghorum."

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian moves to the door with the two women. His weapons are slung, but easily ready and his bow has been strung in case of trouble. "I am ready ladies. Perhaps when we get, it may be best to allow me and the dwarf through first, there may be trouble."

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian also heads upstairs to gather his equipment, packing eveerything as he is not sure if or when he'llbe able to return to this place.

Returning downstairs he settles his account with the innkeep and prepares to follow the Sheriff's instructions or the lead of one of the others seemingly caught up in this mess.

Anyone heard from our DM lately? I think he's having internet troubles but was wondering if others had heard from him or not

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

"Well Sheriff, we have told you what we know and what we suspect. Is there any other way we can assist.?"

The Inquisitor looks the dwarf in the eye as he adds "I feel my Lady's hand in directing me here this evening. I am offering my assistance to you, if you'll have it."

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian quietly informs the sheriff of his findungs upstairs, making sure to let the man know the cause of death and his current suspicions about possibly two crimes here. Once he's done, the inquisitor steps bck and waits patiently for the others to try their hand at identifying the silver coin.

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian's interst is piqued by the conversation occuring about another person who may be imvolved in this. "Pray tell, ladies, who is this other person you're talking about. Was she in anyway connected to the man upstairs?"

His eyes are intense again, berning with a fervor to know what mysteries surround the death of the pathfinder and what part his goddess wants for him to play in it.

I think we need to chat to the sherrif before we all go heading off after other clues. I was waiting for our DM to drop him into the conversation. I need to go back over and read all of thsi thread again now so I can keep up with other players and their threads to this tale to date.

On that note, I have to run a camp for some year 11 science students this week, so will be absent for the first few days of the week. Sorry, that's twice in a fortnight I've left off. Hopefully it won't slow you down. Cheers

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian looks at the dwarf and smiles thinly before replying. "Unfortunately friend I have no cash with which to pay you"

AS the beautiful girl at the table speaks, Irian turns and regards her curiously. Interesting she feels as if she is getting involved already. Then he smiles as he realises that he was already committed to the task of finding who the murderer was, by the very fact his goddess had placed him here.

"Certainly getting involved would be dangerous m'lady, otherwise a man would not be dead. Unfortunately, the fact we were there and had a quick gander before the sheriff came along has us involved whether we like it or not."

He also looks cautiously around the room before contiinuinig quietly Best not to say too much before the local law gets here and questions us."

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian watched as the crowd grew ever larger. He swore softly under his breath, preferring not to have so many people around to take note of things should he have to do his mistresses work here.

As the dwarf moved downstairs, he watched him carefully. His movements were competent and fluid, a warrior trained obviously. The others were harder to read. His gazed lingered long on the gaunt looking one trying to lurk in the shadows. He had a touch of the dead about him, and it set the inquisitor on edge. Maybe this was who he was meant to see to here?

Bringing himself back to the murder upstairs, he moves across to the dwarf and speaks quietly to him "It has been suggested that you may be able to shed some light on the dealings of our dead friend upstairs. Would you know why he was here, or what he might have had that others would kill to gain from him?". The question was blunt, and the look intense. Some habits were hard to lose, and Iirian's previous career hadn't been one where he often got to use his cheery disposition.

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian looked the woman over briefly before nodding at her words.

"I think it unlikely that he was alive when the window was smashed. I could be wrong, but that type of thing tends to alert people and it's damned hard to cut someone's throat when they know you're there. I'm almost thinking two different people here."

He frowns slightly as more thoughts come to him.
"Whoever it was ransacked his rrom, but left a poorly hidden sack of gold under the bed. They were looking for something particular. I'm guessing if we get a chance to talk to the dwarf upstairs, he may shed some light on things. Maybe he can tell us why the guy was here in town to start with."

He sits then, thinking over the murder and his purpose for being here. It was unlikely that this was chance, ever since the priest had died he hadn't had too many events that happened "by chance" in his life.

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian nods his head to the sheriff, unwilling at this point to start trying to but heads with the law. He'd had to deal with watchmen before in his work with the Death Goddess, but most were good men. He tried to read this one now, to determine if he were legitimately competent or trying to cover anything up

Sense motive 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

"Try not to disturb the body too much Sheriff. We must treat it with respect lest the spirit takes offense and is unable to pass through the ebon gates for judegement."

With that, he turns and leaves the room, heading down to the common room to confer with those he had also seen investigate.

Irian shall go downstairs and compare notes with those who attend.

For those who care to listen to him downstairs

Spoiler:
"The man's throat was slit and that is what killed him. This takes caution if he was sleeping, or trust between victim and killer if he was awake. The savaging of his body was done after he was dead, though I am unsure as to why this would occur."[b] He looks around at the others then, raising an eybrow in query [b]"What else have you discovered?"

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Seeing that so many others were starting to investigate this murder, Irian quietly slipped back to his room where he dressed more appropriately. Once he had donned his clothes, he made his way back to the room. "You people will need to clear some space so I can look over the body and ensure my Lady of the Grave has escorted the spirit."

He had found that presenting himself as an official of the ladies work seemed to work well in situations like this. Not that he knew the right way to go about preparing bodies for their final rights. He just needed to get close to dead man so he could find out more about his death.

Assuming the others let me in to the room

Irian stared down at the dead pathfinder and checked over his body carefully, trying to determine more about teh cause of death and any other clues he might find from the body. From there he also expanded his search to the rest of the room, trying not to interfere with the one casting magics.

Heal check on the body for any further info I can find 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14. Careful check of the room perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13.

After conducting his search, Irian says a quiet prayer over the man, one of the few rituals he knew. Turning to the gathered crowd he suggests "We should ajourn to the main room to discuss what we have foundand best determine what to do here." Turning to the sickened guard he asks "Are any more of you coming? The longer it takes to investigate this crime, the more chance the murderer will have to escape"

edit- You ninja'd me there a bit DM.

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian moved carefully through the crowded corridor until he could see inside teh room. The hairs on his neck were standing on end again, a sign of things to come no doubt.

He looked around the room at teh assembled crowd and noted some of them had come armed, similar to himself. His bare chest prickled with the chill night but more at the portent of the events that lay before him. Ignoring the woman's instructions to disperse, the young man stepped up to the innkeeper, holding his Black Rose amulet of the godess up as he did so. "I am an agent of lady Pharasma, good man. If someone has died here this evening, I will need to see to things". He kept the tone flat, hoping it would convey instruction so the man would follow instinctively.

Already Irian was staring past his shoulder into the room beyond, loooking for clues.

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13; Bluff if needed 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 or diplomacy if that is what is needed instead 1d20 ⇒ 14

Currently dressed in the pants he wears to bed and carrying his mace. The holy symbol is always worn around his neck.

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

I'm heading off for a family weekend today DM Grim. If you fire up the thread I probably won't get a chance to post in it until tomorrow night sorry to say. If you need Irian to interct with anyone to keep the posts up, feel free to NPC him. His personality is a completely blank slate at the moment so I'll run with what you go with.

Otherwise, I'll post tomorrow when I get back from the overnight camping trip.

Cheers all

PS. Also quite excited about starting this one. A new character class for me and a GM designed game has me all sorts of happy about the great unkown.

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Irian is good to go.

I'll be out of town and out of internet access on Saturday/saturday night Australia time (GMT +10) but should be good to go from Sunday afternoon onwards.

Cheers

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

I say we give it all to Pharasma and let her work it out. Given that she's a little busy with all the dead folk and such, you'll have to make do with her nearest representative.....Oh, that would be me. I'll make sure everyone gets what's theirs. :)

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Ok, finished him now and he is pretty much skint. A total of 2 gold and 9 silver remaining with which to survive until his next job comes around. Should prove interesting. I imagine he's going to be hungry until we get some serious cash together.

Cheers

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Looks like we've lost Ronin and therefore our cleric. He's had to call off his own campaign as well. Sad to see you go Ronin, another time perhps.

I'll get my mundane gear sorted tonight for finishing touches on Irian.

Cheers

Male Human Inquisitor (1st)

Well this is Irian pretty much statted up. Only thing left is to finish buying his mundane gear. I took the extra feat rather than traits at this stage, was just too good an opportunity to pass up.

Let me know what mistakes I may have made.

Cheers

Well this is the beginnings of Irian. I've done his base stats and pasted his background in but that is all.

He's not optimised for anything really, but statted based around the background concept. Remembering he was a hired mercenary before becoming a holy warrior.

I've never built nor seen played an Inquisitor so I guess this will be a learning cirve for me as well.

I'm actually leaning more to taking his dex up rather than strength since most of the wepon proficiencies of the class seem to be missile based.

I'll tinker with him some more and see how he progresses tomorrow. Must head off to do some marking now.

Oh, a few questions.
1) Are you allowing traits?
2) How much starting gold should we use?
3) How would you like us to do HP's?

Cheers
