The memories were vague. A smiling mother, and a laughing father. Tossing her up in the air...And sisters. She remembered one much like her, and one older, and an infant, but as the years passed the memories faded. Then things changed.
The smiling mother did not show up with her normal morning cheer. Then a few days later the laughing father also didn't show. The sisters supported each other as well as they could, but they needed their parents. Then came a night not so long after they disappeared. No longer did she hear the coughing and hacking sounds from the back room. And the man in the white robes left, with his head low. She woke up in the middle of the night with a feeling of dread. Quietly padding down to the curtain partitioning off the room, she overheard the voices.
"I tell you it's not natural". "natural or not, it is done...what can be done about the girls". Then another voice spoke, a gentle female voice. "My husband and I will take them". "It will be hard with two of our own, but we'll make things work".
"Your offer is appreciated, but I have bad feelings about this". "We should seperate the girls". "It will be for the best".
"Poor little things". "They lose their parents, and now they lose each other...still you are right". "Better safe than sorry".
Then the gentle voiced woman came into the hallway, and trundled the still bewildered child off to bed. Four days later she was in the temple of Sehanine Moonbow.
The Head mistress called Inwe into her study. "Your training is almost complete. We can show you little less here". "You have applied yourself to your studies, and I feel you are ready to move forward".
"We have some referrences here", and she unfolded an ancient scroll, "which speak of a metal". "A metal with unusual properties, which are best exposed under the moonlight". "The references to this metal lead us to an unknown Dwarven clan, which many years in the past apparently worked with our ancestors to work this metal". "The church wishes you to travel there, and look for clues to the existance of this metal, and this group of dwarves".
"There is an additional piece of information I must provide to you concerning this mission". "You will be working with a mage there, that will probably seem strangely familiar to you". "With good reason". "She is your sister".
So here she stood, outside the inn, her sister within, and a life of adventure ahead of her. She took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and entered the warmth of the inn.
