The guard looks torn inside, caught between losing his life to his employer vs. losing his life to the intruder. Finally after an intense moment, the guard averts his gaze and walks away. He says nothing further.
The guard is visibly shaken by Tirion and Thordak's Intimidation, but he holds his ground as best he can.
"I said, nobody goes any further. Now back down and let's wait to see when the lady is ready for visitors."
One of the guards steps in front of Thordak before he advances up the steps. "Wait right there, Dwarf. Didn't you hear us?! Give the lady a little space. She will be down in her own good time. Nobody's going anywhere."
Most of the guards do not attack, but one of the guards on the stairway remarks,"Just leave Lady Kaal alone. Can't you see that see is in grief?! Have you blokes no compassion for a woman who just lost her beloved son?!! Tell that halfling to get back down here!"
Red follows the guard through the main door into the luxurious Kaal Manor. Inside, he yells, "House Kaal is under attack, the lady needs protection!" Immediately, four other guards stand ready to strike. A second guard calls out, "Hold it right there! If you value your life you will advance no further!" As you look around the inside of the manor, you notice the floor is a glossy red veined marble and a great chandelier hangs from the ceiling. Paintings hang from the walls and a grand staircase leads upwards to a balcony surrounding this chamber.
Bofus takes down another guard with a quick slice of his blade. "The Halfling is right, back off and put your blades away. There is no point dying over all this, you fine fellows are just doing your job - but your boss has been sacked. Back down now and I assure that your outsanding salaries be paid and you will return to your families, or start your new job joining us against the Red Hand and taste glory!" One by one, the Kaal House Guards begin dropping their weapons and walking back to the barracks. Most of them are badly wounded and would not have lasted much longer. "Stop! Stop! That's enough. We surrender. You have killed Tearax and that is all that matters. We don't need to die here!" One of the Kaal House Guards, however, who was not injured in the melee, quickly turns on his heels and runs for the house. He immediately opens the front door and is about to barge inside.

""My entourage?!" Red spits at the guard and points to the rest of the party lagging behind, as though explaining something to a child. "Oh yes, well naturally they are permitted, but please let me straighten this out with our head of security, Captain Tearax. I am so sorry to keep you waiting. He should be coming across the courtyard in just a moment. This should not take long to clear up." Trying to ease the tension of the moment, the guard awkwardly asks a question, hoping not to offend. "So tell me, have you written any famous songs?"
""Why aren't you people ready? Where is my fanfare? What is going on? I have come to perform, Red the wandering minstrel, one of the biggest things in Varisia, Galt, the crowd pleaser of Magnimar and I come to this backwater to perform on the eve of battle, I cancelled shows for this and this is the preparation for my arrival? A pair of half asleep guards at a gatehouse?"
"I'm sorry, Mister . . . Uhm . . . Red? I was not aware of this, uhm . . . performance. Please, if the Lady is expecting you, I'm sure she will be able to explain everything. Let me call for her chief of security, Captain Bastak Tearax. He will assist you with all of your concerns. Please, come in and wait inside. I'm sorry for any misunderstanding, but I'm sure that he will set things right." The house guard raps on the iron gate and it is opened from the inside. "Please, come in." The guard gestures as politely as he can. Turning to the inner guard, he barks an order, "Send for Tearax immediately. We have a problem here." The inner guard obeys and immediately hurries off. Turning his attention back to you, he says"Can I please offer you a seat on this bench while we wait to straighten this all out?"
"It sure is a quiet night." Remarks one gaurd. "Shut up!" whispers the other intensely. "Do you know what Tearax would do to you if he caught you talking during guard duty. I know how this works. I'm going to be the one who pays the price for your stupidity! Now don't make a sound and guard the way you are suppose to!" |
