Hilde goes quietly about the business of making a sloppy mess of the space the goats are hung in. She'll contain the mess if the tools are at hand to do so (like buckets to catch the blood).

"It was good luck getting one with foal under these conditions. Got a spare male in there we can get?"
While some might expect a look of satisfaction to settle onto Hilde's face, what you see instead is one of relief.
"Will threatening you for the goat mean I don't have to hear any more of this?" She's obviously not real happy with the situation, and is willing to accept a target to vent on . . ..
"Game?" Hilde looks about the area, at all the scraps which would lead the few animals that might have been close to avoid this area.
"I could kill a Fuzzy Wuzzy. Name's not important compared to the threat." Hilde doesn't make any aggressive moves, but doesn't seem to like the unfolding situation.
Hilde looks at the others with some consternation, but doesn't verbalize anything. She does lay her bill over her shoulder, draping her arm along the shaft before her to hold it in place. Waiting.
As her eyes dart round more quickly, Hilde gives a low growl of frustration.
Hilde looks as they so carefully pull the sack, examine it, and start a little retreat. "So, we doin' this, or not?"
As they get close, Hilde sets her pack down, figuring either she'll have time to get it or she won't need it anymore. Then she takes her bill and spins it a couple of times, dropping into an over-hand strike, resetting and thrusting as quickly as she can. Winking at Kaliban, she moves up near him, ready for this lumbering hulk to present her a target . . ..
Obviously, she's making him look good . . ..
"All I know is you have to hit them. A lot. And then some more."
"I'm not hearing much to work with on what this thing is or what it fears. But I can appreciate water as payment well enough."
"Hunh. Well, we were really just passing by. Trying to find this guy. But you could talk us into trying your monster."
"Should we get in line for our rations? I would hate to miss out."
Hilde chuckles. "See? fish-folk!"
"I'm not hairless!"
"Wait. Aren't you a fish people of some kind? There's a difference?"
Hilde will run through her morning exercises while the caster prepare. "Ready to meet the locals? hey should be able to tell us about your bear-thingie."
"Hope they've got enough water it won't cost us a horse to get what we need."
"Guess I'll take first."
"Well, we ready to get back to it? Emma? Can you ride, or does your horse need a break?"
"Now THAT's a useful trick! I was really NOT wanting to have to follow him. Thank you!"
Jaw surgery sounds pretty scary, I agree.
Not even after every post, if once a day, or on a regular, slower, schedule. Predictable.
Start/stop gets frustrating, but if things get picked back up it is easy enough to keep going. As the player who made the last post, I tried to get a reaction from the character to having her horse run away from the fight while still trying (poorly) to win the fight. Nothing followed for almost 2 weeks. I don't know if you were waiting on something from someone specific, or if we're waiting for you. There was no communication on the point, so I doubt anyone else knows for sure, either. EDIT: With the number of games I have that are stalled right now, with my last post being one of the final 3 posts in the gameplay thread, I've stopped doing much more than looking to see which games have posts and trying to play them.
Grunting in frustration as her horse, and gear, go running off, Hilde steps back from the bird and tries to end it.
Hilde gets dumped, unceremoniously, by her horse as it shies away from the attacking birds. Grumbling, she stands back up and readies an attack for when the birds come back within reach.
As the Bill gives reach, and Hilde has Combat Reflexes, she should get a shot on any that try to move through her threatened space. You will need to identify how many pass through her threatened space, and she should get 1 AoO per bird that does so.
"Carrion birds won't normally come after anything which can still fight back. Others will. What kind are these?" Hilde gets her Bill ready for use, in case.
Yes. We need to waste as little time and water as we can. Typical desert travel is safer at night than during the day, as long as you have some shelter. Even a big tarp.
"Works. Thought there was somewhere we wanted to go exploring? Afterwards?"
Home for a "quick stop" tonight. Going back to get the daughter's car tomorrow, so, another 7 hours on the road for the round trip. <shrug> Life should be almost normal for work on Monday, and after.
I am 3ish hours East of home, with my 27 year old daughter in a neurological ICU. She is supposed to be in observation for 24~48 hours. Beennworking this issue since 0500 local this morning. I make no promises about posting on my phone through this.
Hilde is happy to leave the shysters and get on with trying to understand what they've been hiding.
"Seems a common bet. People keep telling us what'll make us dead."
"Guess you could say it was a lovers' quarrel? The rancher and dryad have come to an agreement, and the attacks have stopped."
"Then let's collect. Hermit after, I guess."
"So, go back and get paid, or move on and hope they will pay us after we end their money-making scheme?"
"Works for me."
"Aren't these secrets what we're here to end? Who do we serve by helping to keep them?"
Hilde shrugs.
"So, it is growing, like they said, right? Any idea how to pull this weed?"
Hilde shrugs and shakes her head. Too much time guessing why people long dead did things nobody remembers, too little moving forward. I wonder what forward is right now?
Hilde shakes her head. "Only game in town looks good."
Hilde frowns and looks askance at Dawn as she starts her comment, but, characteristically, holds her tongue.
This fat old man has 2 appointments to get caught tonight. I hope you manage to have even more happiness and joy than the children I'll be teasing.
The big woman just shakes her head at Dustan's reaction.
"That went better than I had hoped. 'Course, I didn't think they would be family."
