About Jahbo Atoth
JAH-bo ah-TOAT
---
Jahbo was orphaned at age 10 on the streets of Sothis's Sphinxside; his surname is that of one of its slums' lesser alleys. He made his living by begging and crawling through ruined areas under and around the city, scavenging anything of value he could find. At a fairly young age, he talked a half-elven Varisian Pathfinder named Riani into letting him accompany her on an expedition into ancient Osirion ruins. They became good friends over the course of two years, with Riani teaching him Varisian calligraphy while Jahbo in turn taught her some of the ancient dialect his grandmother used to speak and read to him.
The trip turned out badly for Riani; while they located some important historical carvings and evidence of a sphinx-worshiping cult long dead, she unwittingly triggered a poison dust trap, killing her. Remorseful, Jahbo claimed her belongings and decided to travel to Absalom to report her demise. Having no real ties to Sothis, Jahbo decided he might as well offer his services to the Osirion faction while he was at it; maybe he could make his fortune there. I mean, transcribing hieroglyphs and digging up lost tablets sure beat begging.
