Story:
The Aumvar family is one of the oldest mercantile families of Magnimar, making its home in the Alabaster District. Beginning as naval shippers, the family has expanded to become a full-fledged trading coster, moving goods all over the Inner Sea. In any other nation, the family’s Varisian roots would push them to less favorable environs, but success washes away the sins of background, making the family’s estate an eccentric site in the otherwise posh district, commonly hosting Varisian caravans that travel the Lost Coast Road.
Hezekiah Aumvar is the third son of the current family patriarch. With few prospects to inherit the family business, Hezekiah had some freedom to pursue his own interests. While he learned bookkeeping and appraisal, he found his true interest lay in the ancient history of his homeland. He listened raptly to the stories of his wandering kin and spent his youth dreaming of getting out and seeing the world. An uncle, Imeda, persuaded Hezekiah’s father to send him out of Magnimar for his education, selling the old trader on the benefits of trying to grow some semi-native contacts outside of the City of Monuments. Hezekiah travelled with his uncle’s caravan up the road to the town of Sandpoint, where he completed his education under Ilsoari Gandethus at the Turandarok Academy. While he had some difficulty getting on with the rougher kids, he proved to be a brilliant student. When he turned 16, Ilsoari introduced him to Brodert Quink, the town’s local sage. For the last two years, Hezekiah has learned the history of the Thassilonian Empire from Brodert and the fundamentals of magic from Ilsoari.
Hezekiah has utterly become a “local” in Sandpoint, only returning to Magnimar once or twice a year. Like most boys his age, he’s gotten in trouble with Junker, crushed on Ameiko Kaijutsu, and snuck a drink or two at the Hagfish. Unlike most boys in town, he has seen a summoned fiend (which turned his hair white) and is literate in Thassilonian. He is most often found at the academy, the Curious Goblin book shop, or Brodert’s home.
Appearance:
Hezekiah is only 18, but several things make him look a bit older. First of all, he’s about 30 pounds overweight. While he’s surprisingly light on his feet for such a large man, it fills out his face remarkably. Second, his hair turned white last year when Ilsoari summoned a mephit to demonstrate conjuration magic. This, plus his habit of hanging around older men such as Ilsoari and Brodert have made the boy appear old beyond his years.
