Once everyone (including Ragnar) are in the lift, Bane orders Let the lift be lowered.

The cage lurches with the weight but the chains and gears holds as the descent begins down the shaft.

Suddenly from the office Primo Ambusta
and his men yell STOP!!! Do not let them down. I hearby accusing them of
being frauds and enemies of the order.

Bane calls Keep going, find them! and he destroys the locking
mechanism, preventing the elevator from being
immediately pulled back up.

At this point, Ambusta and his men overrun Bane.

Bane yells I will hold them off, rescue Karn for me!

And the cage descends into the darkness with the faint sound of armed conflict fading as the clank of the chains continue ever downward.

Ambusta and the other officers relent on their interrogative activities.

Paralictor Bane greets you in the morning of the third day. "The spheres are aligned for us today. With your assistance, the lift is finally repaired. The other officers have not presented any opposition to my granting you access to the lift to explore below. You must make preparations as we do not know what or who awaits you in the depths. Go with speed as lives may still cling to hope of a rescue.

With that, Bane has you join him in 20 minutes at the site of the lift.

You can make any preparations in that time, but purchases are limited in the fort.

Bane nods once you are assembled. You are hereby granted access to the lift. Make haste and report back those who may return.

Frost, you may have to decide on your mount/companion...stay stabled or bring below.

The Hellknights’ lift:

The lift resembles a giant metal birdcage (hardness 10, 30 hp).
The platform is 10 ft. by 40 ft. and can hold 16 Medium-
sized creatures comfortably amid the heavy excavation
equipment. Three large hatches in the lift’s top grant
access into the cage where one can climb down 5 metal
rungs to the lift’s floor.

Zartan is able to help fix the lift a day earlier…

Bane expresses gratitude ”Excellent work. We are in your debt, visitors! “ and looks to the other officers as if seeking their recognition.

and reduces the number of inquiries into your purpose

Will continue social posts after work
Tonight

Paralictor nods to Artemis and Frost.

Understood. Out here in Rachikan we do not have the fine inns or library's of Chelish civislization. We have a map room and barracks. There are five open bunks that were used by the missing archeologists. You are welcome to use those. I do not have better accommodations to offer.

The Hellknight commander motions to a few of the soldiers to ready to guide you to the barracks and show you around.

While talking, another soldier approaches. Sir, the lift took more damange during the attack than we expected. We suspect it could take as much a three days to make the repairs.

Bane growls in frustration. We need that lift operational sooner. Lives may depend upon it.

He turns back to you.

My men will show you around and provide what you need if we have it. I must confer with my leadership team on the developments.

Map haas been updated. There are about 20 soldiers and some civilians in the compound you can see.

Anyone in particular taking the drum or anything else?

Clearly desperate for help, Bane doesn't look too deeply into the explanation provided by Artemis.

”Everything seems to be in order. Please follow us back to the fort before the next wave. “

The commander invites you all to come into the encampment.

The Hellknight camp is surrounded by a wooden palisade that stands 15 feet high. At each corner of the palisade are 20-foot square watchtowers, each armed with catapults. There’s one entrance through the palisade—a 30-foot-wide wooden gate.

Bane explains

”I must admit the lift was damaged in the attack, but it should be repaired by tomorrow or the next day. Meanwhile you are to make yourselves at home. “

Numerous Hellknights eye you with suspicion. It's obvious that your rouse is going to be tested.

Drums of Panic

The leader of the Hellknights continues.

"I am Paralictor Maladin Bane, commander of this fort and surrounding area. I see you are properly attired in uniforms of our order, but we were not expecting visitors. Your assistance, again was most appreciated at the time of this latest attack."
