About Hana Miyahara

Hana is a lithe and beautiful girl that floats on the wind like a leaf. With pale skin and hair as white as snow, she is reminiscient of a ghost more than a person. Thick half-elven ears protrude from beneath the hood she wears. Bone-thin by malnutrition, she's wrapped in the thick clothes of the Chilling Pass, giving her an air of burden, almost as if the simple coats are too much for her to bear. A bow, hardly used, sits unstrung across her back, along with a quiver of arrows. This wasn't her true form, but it would be good enough for now.


Hana is arrogant, self-centered and conceited. At the core of her universe is herself, though she's easily capable of slipping into any number of personalities or roles depending on the situation. Ultimately cold and callous, she does what she needs to do to survive, ruthless in her pursuit of her own ends yet too weak-willed to commit any real, long-lasting harm. She is the subtle knife that stings instead of killing.

- Hana begins combat by inspiring courage in her allies. She targets the most dangerous looking opponent with hideous laughter (her prepared joke is "What do you get when you cross a monk with a pig? A pork chop. Ha, ha.") and clumps of very weak opponents with sleep. She fires her bow at opponents not engaged in melee combat, dancing out of harm's way using her acrobatics skill if necessary.
- Hana fights until the two most powerful melee combatants have been defeated with no hope of rescue, and then uses silent image to create an illusion of herself, having it run away in an opposite direction before fleeing combat.

Hana came down from the mountains one day, saw that the people in the Sanctuary lived without endless fear of death, and took human form to join them. Years of wandering the mountain passes had taken a toll on her body, the frostbite, hypothermia, starvation eating away at her permanently. Nearly crippled, she dragged herself into town and into the confidence of the first good samaritan to stop to save a beautiful woman. Little did he know that she was a kitsune, a kind of cross-breed between the spirit world and the true one, and that her nature was to lie.

Hana liked to pretend that she was a famous noble from some far away place. It explained her love of foreign music, her predilection to strange cuisine and the languages she could speak. That she'd been trapped here, had found a way through the mists, was weakened, needed their help to recover. Don't tell anyone else-- it's our little secret. It worked. She couldn't fight undead by herself-- only hide-- and the Pass was full of them. So, she found a new place to hide in the homes of men and women who took her in and gave her their heart in exchange for living out a fantasy that was far better than their current abysmal fate. Eventually, they'd die. Everyone died here. Death filled the air night and day. And Hana would be at their home, waiting for that moment-- to take everything and leave nothing behind, to act the grieving lost girl. She made riches from the corpses of the people who trusted her.

Finally, one day, Hana became complacent and made a grave error. Her true form was discovered just as her involvement with another man who had begun to die of frost fever was becoming common knowledge. The man who witnessed her true form was named Geverin, the priest of Kostchtchie for the Sanctuary. He caught her transforming into her true form and back, and she caught him slitting the throat of a young girl on the temple altar. The town was suddenly not big enough for both of them.

Geverin quickly spread the rumor that Hana was a kitsune, but added a detail-- she had been cursing each of her lovers to die with necromantic magic, and had been sent by Argosal to destroy them from within. Gossip turned to rumor, and rumor turned into a mob of angry villagers blaming her for so many deaths. Hana was thrown from her home, into the streets, viciously attacked, strung up in the town square on a tree to die from exposure. Geverin was smarter than her. He had age, experience and wisdom on her side.

When Hana thought that nothing could be worse, that she had hit the lowest point, that there was no hope left for her, a skeletal dragon descended from the snowstorm above her. There was nowhere to run, and she watched, helpless to move, as it slowly sucked in lifeless air and froze her to death with its breath.
