Hana, with her arms crossed, stays silent. If they were heading back to her homeland, it'd no doubt be interesting.

Hana's face registers curiosity. "Not human, you say? Extrapolate perhaps...?"

His story was one of madness and sorrow. No wonder he didn't like to play happy music.

She glanced at the sky, mistakenly looking for the sun for a moment. It was almost time to meet back up with her allies-- after this question answered, she'd slip away and try to find them.

Hana laughs. "Pleased to meet you, Nefroy. I was never one for cats, but if I look like one to you, I won't stop you from being honest. I am Hana." She half-bows from her seat, smiling.

She looks him over-- huge, complimentary, skilled. Her natural sense of distrust crept forward and she paused to gauge him for a moment.

Sense motive for a hunch! Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 ... Very failed!

Oh well-- she might as well enjoy a conversation today. "You think that's bad? I was breathed on by a dragon," Hana admits. "And what reason did they have? Was it really the music? Some people are born without good taste; don't let it put a chip on your shoulder."

Hana waits a moment to let the measure of the song sink in, and then begins to sing-- an old song about giving everything up for the people you love. About building anew and not looking back. Not sad-- resurgent. A mountain song.

Perform (sing): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

(Kinda this, but with a younger voice!)

Sczarni

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

Hana judges him from a distance.

"A bit droll, you know?" she says haughtily. "That you'd only play sad music in a sad place. Then it's like you were brought here just to produce the tone for the play, you see?"

Looking at the piano, she gives him a nod of approval. "This is a fine instrument."

And then, slipping on top of the piano's lid, she stretches out like a lazy cat. "I thought of coming here to talk the artist into playing something with an upbeat tune, but, if he insists on his current course, I have no option other than to offer a truce; Play something I can sing along to, perhaps, and maybe you'll enjoy yourself. Or, if you're afraid you'll have too much fun and disappear in a puff of smoke, I can knee you occasionally to fulfill your quota of suffering."

The young girl waits with amusement to see the half-orc's reaction. Her voice is oddly lacking in insult-- a prodding smirk, perhaps, but she honeys her words to try to coax out a smile from the man who claims there's nothing to be happy about.

She makes a dismissive gesture to Bromen. "As much as I'd love a chain shirt shed of mithral, if there's a single boon to be split amongst us, it's likely yourself who should reap the reward. After all, it was your unplanned, brash and daring plan that earned it, yes? Sometimes arrogance pays off," she says.

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

Hana sighs as she rematerializes into an argument. She lets it pass by her like salt over her shoulder, ignoring most of what they say and not lingering to watch-- she leaves as soon as it's apparent it's private.

Slipping down the stairs elegantly, she expects Tera to follow-- instead, she stalks off, brooding. Her companions are the dwarf and the wizard. With a twisted smile, she looks to Bromen. "Time to get our money, yes?"

Hana's Agenda
1. Get paid, using her social skills to avoid being cheated-- even if the shopkeep is pure as snow, Hana isn't and projects that on other people
2. Buy a set of thieves' tools with her winnings and sit down to learn to lock pick-- a skill she picked up just now.
3. Go over draconic in her mind until she's got a firm grasp of it-- learned Draconic just now.
4. Avoid the blackmailer.
5. Perhaps take 20 to open Bannon's spellbook.
6. Find somewhere comfortable and doze.

I work much less than when we started, but Mondays are my "work all day" day. It's kind of work. I run tabletop games for twelve hours for cash.

I'll level up, think over my actions and take them.

"My," she says, flattered. "I find nothing remiss about what you said but for the spit in your palm. But if I must," she says, and gives his hand a good shake before wiping it off on her breeches.

"A lady doesn't spit," she explains. "On the topic of necessary tasks: One of the people in the Nexus was threatening to reveal a secret of mine unless I brought him a giant gem. Perhaps that could find its way into the addendum of tasks to be completed, yes?"

Sczarni

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

Great points. She'd already left the room, though, so she waits a moment and then saunteringly returns.

"That sounds like a plan, then. Perhaps that instead, to spare Bannon his... condition?"

Sczarni

"You should keep your mouth quiet-- it's getting away from your mind," Hana cheerfully reminds Bannon.

"Had it not be for the dwarf blindsiding us with combat, we could have probably avoided that situation. Had it not been for Roman's excellent aim, we probably would've ended up far worse for wear. In all honesty, we only had a few options-- trading something to it for its help would have been preferable if we had something to trade. It was still a monster, and I'm glad we've further allied ourselves with the apoplectic dragon woman before, but because someone makes a mistake isn't reason enough to insult them to their face."

"Nice dagger toss," she says, complimenting the gunslinger.

She turns on her heel. "So, that cave? Outside, shall we? This mountain air is good for the lungs, I hear."

Hana leaves the smithy with the haughty arrogance she entered with.

Hana clicks her tongue. "There were a few other things here I wanted to look into-- there was a closed off cavern, for instance. Checking it may prove valuable, though, how it compares to the current profitability is a coin toss in itself."

Hana calls up the pipe: "What do you get when you cross a pig with a monk? Pork chop."

She pauses.

"Ha."

Hideous laughter! DC 15 will save, or 16 if is or could be capable of being attracted to me.

Hana throws a smile to Roman, and then to the pipe. She doesn't stop humming her song, gesturing for him to try again!

Moving under the pipe, she weighs the possibility of trying something risky.

Could I target it with a targeted spell?

Sczarni

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

Takin' my turn now, I'm still acting after Roman!

Hana sucks in a bateful breath and then laughs. Nocking an arrow and moving away, spreading out so that the creature can't fight them all at once, she begins to sing-- soft and quiet at first that rises into a victory march.

Bardic performance! +1 to hit, +1 to damage, don't forget it or I'll be cross.

I do!

I never imagined I walked that close. I actually imagined I was standing beside Bromen-- that Tera in front of me turned around to grab us both (described!) and then left us.

So if I'm near there, I'm on the other side of the door as Tera, or even behind Bannon.

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

I know, right? Hana's too calm to get into an argument unless she goes nuclear, but I'm sure Tera will push her buttons somehow.

"He can one day be good!" "yesss give me the cursed rings so I can use them for evillll" :P

I will say that this spat is much more enjoyable than the one I had with another group on the forums. My anti-paladin was threatened by the summoner and told him that if he ever drew his weapon again he would make the summoner eat it.

Afterwards, he threw a lot of passive-aggressive vibes at me that culminated in a minion he controlled telling me off. A minion! It was confusing.

I'm glad we can both yell at eachother and hate eachother and still be pals.

Sczarni

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

Ah, of course. A paladin taking a self-righteous aggrandizing route through a conversation. Why did Hana think she was any different? Hours ago she was at the verge of tears about her precious city, and now she had the audacity to judge Hana on what she had and had not seen.

Rolling waves of the dead, come back to join the unending siege. Living sacrifice.

Cannibalism.

They'd both died. Why was your life so much more special? Because you're some crusader, and you have a god, so obviously the more gold you wore when you died the more glory you had, right? Get over yourself. Hana watched people she cared about die, one by one, from malnutrition and plague. Tera was lucky that your friends' deaths were fast. She never had to wake up to find someone frozen to death, and she never had to sell her soul to stay alive.

She could say these things... but, that wouldn't be lady-like. Instead, Hana cleared her throat, letting the awkward silence pass, and waited to see what the dragon wanted.

Sczarni

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

Tera's such a nice person. I hate to be the Doctor Smith character, but sometimes you just gotta go for it and be a foil.

I'm having fun, but some of it is definitely curbed by the fact that I'm also feeling like my character is relatively powerless in comparison to what we're facing. I don't get to feel very heroic cowering in front of CR 5 wyrmlings and CR infinity dragon ladies. And even when I win, I fail, like with the ogre, the levers and the rust monsters, or the box and the gremlin. And then the paladin scolds me. :P

Humorously I haven't been seeing the discussion thread getting new posts since like, before July, so I was like, wow... this game's pretty quiet. Nope! You guys have been in here chatting away.

"Red dragons have a history of being misunderstood in your city, it seems. Good to know where you stand."

Hana hopes that Tera will lose her temper; she's in perfect control of her own emotions. "Calm yourself. I think he wants the rings anyways, dear."

Sczarni

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

"Poor?!" she says with a quizzical look, giving up the act immediately.

She looks at Tera and then looks at the dragon. In all honesty, she would rather kill him and take all of this and make an ally of the dragon woman than make an enemy of her and have this hideous thing continue to exist around. They had nothing to trade it. It was going to eat them and she was letting it decide the battle field. They were going to help it cook them.

Pointedly, she asks "Are you?" hoping that the paladin would get the point. You couldn't trust them. It didn't care. It was going to use them and then kill them because that's what evil things do.

Sczarni

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

There was a deadly quiet from Hana.

On one hand, the dragon might know. It would more than likely know and it would immediately tear the person apart.

On the other hand, Tera might disapprove. She would defend this skull-sucking creature until she was blue in the face, no doubt, even if it threw its knife-claws into her back and told her it was scratching her.

On the other hand, what was a little harmless fun?

And on the other hand... well, look at the dragon's face? So haughty, so noble... Look at the dragon's face... so arrogant.

Hana gasps dramatically. "But... they're so expensive and so magical. Will we give them up just like that? I thought they were worth a fortune!" She casts a look of horror and betrayal to Bannon. "You can't be thinking of..."

With a nod, Hana follows. She seems to understand the situation, but does not speak, looking over the glittering gold with amused satisfaction.

With a cough, she looks to Tera. "Yes, this is all fine and good but what exactly does this mean?"

She didn't expect a paladin to make a deal with a dragon. Perhaps it was amicably agreeing to a sort of dueling parameter?

Sczarni

Female Kitsune Bard 3; AC 17, 13 touch 14 flat-footed; HP 21/21, Fort +2, Ref +6, Will +4; +5 Initiative, +6 Perception

"A sneaky type. You'd best just say my name from here on out, gentle allies, as your veneer of secrecy thins when we take account of whom we travel with."

She shrugs. "Could have been worse-- I could have let you flail. Best that this be a lesson to leave things to those most suited? Perhaps. Still, it ended in something advantageous, so I won't call your efforts entirely ill. I'll take this as a lesson to act on our impulses more often."

Hana trots alongside the others, formulating a plan in her head on how to best interact with the dragon.

Hana swoops in at that moment, with a deep bow. "Pardon him, ma'am. Hana Miyahara is my name; I apologize for the rudeness of my colleague in not inquiring as to yours."

She continues on further:

"Our pitiable band is about to go interact with the creature that lies within the ruined smithy up the hill. The location it lies in has some things of interest to us, you see. As far as my insignificant self understands, the creature is a dragon-kine, perhaps a youngling, yet we have little proof as to that matter. You said you'd like it if you could kill 'him' and someone else directly disagreed? Truthfully I apologize for our eavesdropping, yet it seems we may help one another. Allow us to step in and take the onus of the dread action of execution onto ourselves. We'll harm the one you wish harmed, in your honor, leaving you blameless, if you were to supply some form of information to us as to what exactly lies in wait within the smithy."

Hana offers a hand for Tera, casting a dirty look to the wizard and the dwarf who left her there. "We're fine, dear. You took the blow like an expert."

If she lets her help her up, Hana obliges, though is a bit strained by the paladin's armor and weight. After situating her, she notes the heavy blossoming bruises and palms her a curious vial. "Healing potion. That looked like it could kill a man. Good thing it didn't strike either of them," she says, and gestures to the dwarf and the wizard.

Hana almost laughs at the fact that the wizard seems angry at Tera yet had, moments before, warned everyone that the gremlin could curse them. But she kept a straight face, one befitting of the somber thought that people could die. She was legitimately worried for them, to be fair, but the humor of the situation didn't elude her.

Hana flicks out the sign of symbols again and looks at Bromen's ring. "Now, now. You might just be fine."
