Male Halfling Bard/1
To anyone not asleep:
Spoiler: Hamfast waits to see if his comrades notice him and then rubs his garments in a polishing manner before proclaiming, "Not too bad of disguise, if I do say so myself. And not to worry about Miss Burna. She is happy to help the group in any way she can." "Shall we continue our information gathering?" Hamfast is ready to leave with Rolem and Taranis.
Male Halfling Bard/1
Hamfast turns to Burik and replies "I'll have Burna wrapped around my finger before you can shake the spilt ale out of your beard!"Hamfast pops out of his chair, quietly exits the room, and heads down to where Burna was last seen. For the DM:
Spoiler: Since Hamfast was able to woo Burna in their previous encuonter, He is hoping she is still enfatuated with him and will easily provide the service he requests. He asks her to simply relay any messages given to her regarding the wherabouts or conditions of the party members to only Hamfast and his fellow travelers. No one else. If she has her doubts or is unwilling, Hamfast is willing to write a sonnet of her and personnaly perform it. If that still doesn't persuade her, he's willing to bribe her up to 3gp. If an additional diplomacy skill check is needed, Diplomacy Skill Check for persuading Burna to aid the group: 23 = 16 + 7 If Hamfast successfully persuades Burna to aid the group in messaging, he then moves to a different topic. He politely asks her for any garments, hoods, aprons, tablecloths, wigs, etc she might be able to provide that would assist him in changing his appearance to something more roguely, i.e. darker or stealthier. He promises to bring back any items given to him when they next meet. Male Halfling Bard/1
Looking towards Burik, "I would continue probing for anymore information regarding the Shoon Imperium ruins located at the Forlorn Hills, and also if the Northward Three recall working or crossing paths with Delfin's brother Ondabar. I recall Delfin mentioning something of the sorts. Perhaps a link between Smenk and the Northward Three also exists. If all else fails, just insult the Calishite! He's bound to offer up another juicy morsel of information in a fit of rage." Flashes a smile.
Male Halfling Bard/1
After contemplating for a moment, Hamfast turns back to Rolem and responds, "Well there is Delfin, that friendly gentleman Oleg who sold me his wares, ... and ... Oh, Burna!" "Taranis has an interesting idea, but I get the feeling that Kullen pays no particular significance to any of the innocent suspects he sucker punches. With that in mind, and the fact he isn't the most inteligent of creatures, I'm of the opinion that a properly suited disguise should prohibit him from remembering our previous encounter. I probably should sheath my gong for this performance too!"
Male Halfling Bard/1
Hamfast bids Bardolph a good evening, and then replies to Burik, "Ah, Kullen. Now there is a nasty one. Cold-cocked me out of the blue one evening while performing on the ... um ... intelligence of half-orcs (as he rubs a contusion still swolen on the back of his head), and then had the gaul to toss me into a ditch; probably still smell like a moldy swamp rat (sniffs his garments)." "He is rumored to be an enforcer for one of the local Mining Guild members, and as such, the local law enforcement might turn a blind eye to his activities from time to time, if compensated properly of course. Moreover, the guildmaster that he has been working as the hired muscle for is none other than Balabar Smenk" "My informants have indicated that Kullen has been spending his time lately turning the Happy Cow from a nice friendly bar into the kind of dive his associates frequent. Kullen might also be the leader of a smaller band of thugs hired by Smenk." "I think it would be prudent for a small group (looks to Rolem) of us to head over to the Happy Cow this fine evening, and pay Kullen a little visit. I think he might be easier to locate than this Smenk character, and perhaps we could force out a little information from his pea-sized brain. What I would give to use his green head as a mallet for my gong!" (taps his chin and contemplates the idea euphorically) "Of course, if a few of you are with me!"
Male Halfling Bard/1
For Burik: Spoiler:
No worries. I'm enjoying their bickering just as much as you! Please let me know if I'm going too far also. Facing Burik, "Now, now, ... there is no need to get all red with me my dwarven friend, but let's be clear. If your dwarven approach to intelligence gathering was taken, we would still be fumbling in the dark with regards to the Northward Three. I was betting on the foolish wizard's arrogance to reveal their intentions, and reveal he did. Besides, that Northman is about as intelligent as a rock. Why, I bet ole Burna out there could best him in a fight with her grimy tankards." Hamfast props his legs up and locks his hands behind his head, "Stick by me ye stout ally, and we shall learn much from each other. I see a mighty friendship blossoming between us."
Male Halfling Bard/1
"Well it's clear one avenue to take would be towards the Northward Three. However, there is this Balabar Smenk character to monitor also! As Delfin mentioned, Balabar was attempting to become the Governor-Mayor of Daggerford, but burned his proverbial bridges with the mining guild after undercutting the Ironeater brothers; which ascended Delfin's brother, Lanod Ondabar, to the post." "Although I wasn't able to spot Smenk around town, I was able to gather some interesting information about him. Smenk has recently hired several local thugs, such as the half-orc Kullen (Hamfast cringes at the name) and his group of cohorts, to help him "convince" various mine owners to sell their mines to him and refer various guild workers to his "care". Smenk has alo recently sent off to Luskan calling in some of his ties to that northern city to bring in a few more hirelings, though no one is quite sure of who might be coming from that city to aid him. The word on the street is that Balabar has some important friends in Luskan." "One thing is for sure, Balabar Smenk has long been angling to make the Mining Guild the preeminent guild in Daggerford, and has also been angling to increase his control over the mines. He's had a rivalry with the Ironeater clan for some time now, as well as the Parrin family, but he recently aquired much of the Parrin holdings, but not all." Hamfast pauses again waiting for questions or any additional tid-bits of information, ...
Male Halfling Bard/1
Hamfast turns to Burik and riposts, "I fight the battles that need to be fought and are worth fighting for; regardless of whether I can win or not. That, typically distressing, realization usually occurs after I've opened my mouth." After a moment of contemplation, he glances up to Burik and Bardolph and continues, "Besides, you and Bardolph were in attendance for backup. Right?" "In any case, you bring up a good point regarding the emporium and it's purveyor, Zalamandra. Whether willing or un-willing, she was harboring the Northward Three in her establishment. A significant item that should not be left out of our discussions."
Male Halfling Bard/1
Hamfast waits for everyone to enter the wing of the inn reserved for them before beginning to speak, "If there are no objections, as leader of this adventuring party, I would like to begin our discussions. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to gather any useful information, ... "Hamfast pauses for a moment to see if the others are paying him any attention, and then jestingly smacks Rolem on the back of the leg. "Just joking with you my tall friends. Relax, pull up some chairs, and let me weave you a few tales." "Let us begin with the Northward Three, the local adventuring party Delfin was particularly interested in. They appear to be a dull witted Northman warrior, an easy-on-the-eyes wood elf female, and an arrogant, easily exicitable, human Calishite wizard by the name of Khellek. The adventuring company has come to town speaking of how they are exploring the Forlorn Hills looking at ancient Shoon Imperium ruins. They seem to be interested in lost treasures contained in the tombs. but also warned that more than the Shoon lies hidden beneath this region." Hamfast pauses waiting for questions or any additional tid-bits of information, ...
Male Halfling Bard/1
With a raise of his brows, Hamfast quickly counters to the she-dwarf, "Do you by any chance recall the name and/or appearance of the bastard's lady friend?" After the quick give-and-take with Burna, Hamfast turns to the group and motions to them with a wave of his arm, "Come gentlemen, let us retire to our regal quarters and discuss our findings!" Hamfast heads towards the Duke's wing. Allow me to properly introduce myself, Hamfast Chubbukkit."Bows politely. "Are the rooms reserved for us ready?"

Hamfast acknowledges his party members with a courteous nod and walks over to the nearest table after politely ordering a drink for Bardolph and himself, and a course of food from Burna. The halfling immediately notices the acrid smell emanating from the plate and quickly casts a Prestidigitation (flavoring) spell turning his guel into a deliciously smelling and tasting mutton dinner. Hamfast turns to his party members and shouts, "Enjoying your meals, boys? No? Ha! Well you should have studied a little harder in the arcane then!" Laughing out loud! "Let us discuss our findings in private in a few minutes. If you would be so kind, please allow me to enjoy this scrumptous meal first."Grinning and chewing loudly. For Bardolph and DM: Spoiler: With the newly acquired news, Hamfast pays for the drinks (Bardolph and himself) and quietly mentions to Bardolph that nightfall is near so they best be on their way to the Daggerford Inn. Hamfast will head to the Daggerford Inn with Bardolph if he agrees to go. Otherwise, Hamfast will wait at the Happy Cow until Bardolph is ready to leave.

For Bardolph: Spoiler:
Facing Bardolph, "Ah, well that is most undesirable news indeed. However, with your skills in scribing, the situation may be remedied. I would like to take you up on your offer then and kindly ask you to scribe a scroll of Mage Armor and scroll of True Strike at your earliest convienience. As for compensation, your request seems most agreeable. With regards to the tidbits of lore, my professional skills of gathering information are now at your service." "Well then. With our business out of the way, shall we head off to the Happy Cow for a little more, ... entertainment? I must warn you though. There is a most troublesome Half-Orc by the name of Kullen that frequents the bar. I would advise you to mind your actions around him as he packs quite a wallop." And with that final bit of advice, Hamfast heads down the alley/street towards the Happy Cow bar. For the DM: Spoiler: Hopefully Bardolph accepts the invitation to join. Hamfast will head quickly towards the Happy Cow since it is nearing nightfall. While in route he hastily attempts to alter his appearance by picking up any unwanted items that might aid him. He also conceals his wargong and entertainer's outfit for the time being. "Ah, Madam. Just the lady I was hoping to speak with. Perhaps at a later date we can discuss a possible employment position here for an experienced performer like myself - once my current duties are finished of course. One that would be mutually beneficial to both of us (wink), but now doesn't appear to be the most opportune time for discussion." And with a bow and courteous wave of his hand, Hamfast bids farewell and exits the building. Hamfast turns to Bardolph and whispers, "I have a few more errands to run before heading to the Inn. A quick stop at the magic shop and then a drink at the Happy Cow. Care to join?" For DM: Spoiler: Hamfast proceeds as stated in the previous post. Turning towards the door, "But look at the time, I really must be going now." and with a sarcastic smirk on his face he concludes with "If you do see that wizard from Calishan, please give him my warmest regards. Essentially, Hamfast is lying through his teeth about his adventures in the ruins, but he will attempt to use whatever knowlege he has retained about the Forlorn Hills/Shoon Imperium Ruins (based upon the knowledge check above) in order to make his tale more believable. Hamfast will attempt to steer clear of his friends if he manages to catch a glimpse of them, unless either Rolem or Burik wishes him to join them. If Hamfast can manage to lay his eyes on any member of the Northward Three, he will attempt to head towards that direction in the hopes of overhearing and pertinent discussions.

For Tanaris: Spoiler:
Still whispering to Tanaris, Hamfast says, "Well if it isn't are stout bearded friend. I suppose the information I have acquired might be true." Hamfast passes on to Tanaris the information he has recently obtained about the Northward Three. In general, the big Northman is well liked, but isn't considered too bright, the Calishite is reviled as an arrogant ass, and the elf is considered charming and quite pleasing to look at. Recent comments seem to indicate that they might be staying at Zalamandra's Emporium. Hamfast suggest to Tanaris that they should allow Burik to enter Zalamandra's Emporium, and then follow him in a few moments later; with the hope of keeping the group's true purpose concealed. "I wonder what our drunk wizard is up to?" For the DM: Spoiler: If Tanaris is still busy buying equipment or doesn't notice Burik entering the Emporium, Hamfast will enter Zalamandra's Emporium after Burik.

With a nod directed outside the merchant's building toward Zalamandra's Emporium, Hamfast continues, "If you are finished with your business here, perhaps you would care to join me and keep a watchful eye on our brute of an ally Rolem. I'm afraid his intimidation techniques might attract unwanted attention, if you know what I mean. " With a chuckle, "At the minimum, we can enjoy a few drinks at such a fine establishment!"

Activated by the large offering of gold, Hamfast awakes from his nearly hypnotic state and proclaims to the group, "Nearly slipped my mind, but I've heard rumors recently about a particular adventuring company that has been fairly vocal lately in Daggerford, the Northward Three. I can't tell you much at the moment, but the party appears to include a Northman warrior, a wood elf female, and a human wizard of Calishite descent. They shouldn't be too hard to spot in this town! Let us talk about this issue more when we reach the inn." At the mere offering of gold, Hamfast springs up and speaks, "Why certainly Mr. Mage Ondabar, Sir! My skills in gathering information are second to none." More for his own enjoyment than the others, Hamfast pulls out his wargong and taps a merry ditty before turning to his comrades, "What say you my new found friends? For fortune and glory!"

Hamfast hastily picks up the dropped coins and leather purse. With an embarrassed look on his face he explains, "Ummm, ... Pardon me fellow travelers ... For I have this incessant desire to flip gold coins between my wee fingers. See!" As he awkwardly juggles two coins between his tiny fingers. With a nervous chuckle he continues, "Heh, Heh, Old habits seem to die hard, eh? Hamfast quickly stuffs the coins back into the purse and ties the purse to the outside of his cloak (hoping this will subdue any ill will caused by his most recent folly) for all party members to keep an eye on. Spoiler: Hamfast does a quick calculation in his head and comes to the following conclusions. With being the interim leader, Hamfast has decided to procure an extra portion of the gold for himself in order to ensure the proper spending of funds on beneficial items for the group. Moreover, in keeping with the wizard's warning, Hamfast assures himself that these extra funds will be used solely for the benefit of the group; which of course includes the upgrading of the bard's weapons and armour. Therefore, he should theoretically exclude himself from any undesirable enchantments that might have been placed on the sack. At an opportune time, Hamfast delicately slips his hand in the sack of gold ...

With a cordial turn to face the ragtag group of adventurers and a quick mallet strike on the wargong, Hamfast replies, "I can not say for certain as to who bartered for your release, although I do have my presumptions, but it surely was not I. For I was just recently involved in ... um, shall we say ... a rather painful performance." Looking upwards to Rolem, "if it is information you desire, then I have the intelligence and charisma you so obviously lack, to answer these most pressing questions." *GULP* A look of consternation overtakes the halfing as he second guesses the correctness of his last insult. "Ahem, my uncanny knack for gathering information has uncovered the following, Delfin "Yellowknife" Ondabar is a well respected mage, and his tower is part of the north wall of the city's defenses. Until recently, he took on three or four apprentices a season, but the last few months he has failed to do so. He is a retired adventurer that has amassed a sizable amount of gold and magic. "Yellowknife" is considered a staunch defender of the town and has risked himself fighting alongside the town's militia, and that in his youth he was known as a competent knife fighter. His monikker is from his golden dagger that he has carried with him for years." Directing his gaze towards the stout dwarf, Hamfast continues,"As for equipping a new hammer for the faith my stout friend, i have been given a small stipend to help equip an adventuring party ..., (cringing slightly at the surrounding group) but before you assault me for withholding these funds, please allow me to explain. It was my humble opinion to withhold knowledge of these funds until a proper band of adventurers was found. Being that I am surrounded by the most reputable and worthy of a group, I feel it is now safe to put these funds to good use. But let us hurry on to Delfin for a more proper explanation of our task." You see a Halfling portraying an aura of confidence (or is it cockiness), appearing to be in his mid-twenties, standing about three feet tall with slightly ruddy skin, fair ruffled hair, and blue eyes (which is somewhat uncommon for the typical brown haired black eyed Halflings). Although, this one does have the characteristicly long sideburns. His bedraggled raiment includes a red cloak with elaborate threading, tailored shirt, green and blue stripped britches, and exquisite necklaces all of which appear to be from an older generation. Judging from the current condition of his attire, however; the Halfling looks as though he recently could have been involved in a scuffle. In an apparent attempt to subdue the group's mumblings and grumblings, the interim Halfling leader pulls out (from the perspective of a medium-sized creature) a miniature wargong from the inside of his cloak and strikes it with a mallet. The Halfling joyfully recites, "Here, Here fellow adventurers. If you are of like mind for adventuring, let us quell this petty grumbling and continue on to the local mage for the hope of treasure and chance for fame!" Bowing respectfully the Halfling concludes, "Hamfast Chubbukkit at your service." Knowledge (Local) Skill Check :: 19 + 3 = 22 For the DM:
