Sorry guys, I've bit off more than I can chew with games and need to scale back, and am going to have to depart from this one. :(

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

"No," Haikyu says simply to Book, and cocking his head to the side, approaches the body in the water, looking at it sideways. As he moves closer, he mumbles something about preferring a tree to the cold stone of a cave anyway. Haikyu watches the body in the water for several seconds, making no move to assist it. Shrugging, he replies to Issac, "Whoever he is, he's alive."

For those asking about party makeup, we have two Wizards and a Sorcerer, and myself as an Inquisitor. A front liner is definitely more important than a healer, I feel, since Cure Wounds wands are a thing.

Inactive

Lead the way," Haikyu nods. "Even if the ratkin is unfriendly, it will at least put more distance between us and the Orcs." His eyes dart between the two wizards, noting that they were even worse off than he was. "We won't be able to move quickly enough like this," he mutters. Falling back a second, he stops to check on Issac. "Are you going to be able to make it to the cave? We did get a second of the potions which saved my own life."

Inactive

That's a shame. :(

But otherwise I agree. If we're going to take someone on, we definitely would do well with a Cleric or tanky character.

Inactive

So, at the risk of metagaming a bit, we have a second vial of CLW, and I still have one cast of CLW left. But I'm not sure who is in most need of the heals.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10

Welp, that puts me back down to 2 HP as well.

Inactive

"My wings also are just for show." Haikyu adds to Issac. Still clutching his feathers to stop the bleeding, he moves to follow them down the pathway.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Hopefully we get to use my potion roll. But, I think it's your roll.

Oh! I apologise if it was unclear. I did use your potion, and then when I got up I also cast it on myself.

Inactive

His eyes fluttering open, Haikyu looks around confused for a second before trying to stand. "Your plan did not work." he says simply to Book Wyrm, before adding "But it was worth a try.". Noticing the shortage of Orc bodies around, he cocks his head to the side. "Perhaps we should move on before they return."

Waving his hands over his body once he stands up, Haikyu mutters some words.

CureLightWounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Inactive

The 7 damage and failed Con check puts me at -4 HP, so I think I'm technically dead.

Inactive

Con Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

This is not going well for me.

Well damn.

Where does it say that about the mage armor?

It says it is a +4 armor bonus to AC. Dodge, Natural, and Untyped armour bonuses stack. With Deflection, Shield, and Armour, only the highest is used. Likewise, two "Sacred" bonuses wouldn't stack, two "Enhancement" bonuses wouldn't stack, but one of each would.

GM DFang wrote:
Mage Armor provides armor bonus and does not stack with the armor of the character. Instead, the highest bonus is taken, and since Haikyu already has a +5 armor bonus from his Kikko Armor, Mage Armor will have no effect. Generally speaking, only dodge bonuses stack so total defense does its work.

Ah drats - I thought it was an untyped bonus or at least a Shield bonus - though I see now that that's actually the Shield spell, which can't be cast on someone else.

*Haikyu prepares to be cut down by Orcs*

@Haikyu. What do you think of that! BOOM! Now, I will probably ping them from afar for 1d3 damage. If I can hit. So, I hope that mage armor does it's deal.

Sweet! Thanks!

Haikyu obliges Book Wyrm, taking a step backwards towards him and waiting, ready, blood dripping from his sword and from his feathers.

Isaac - Summoned Monsters take their turns immediately. So you spend your turn summoning it, and then it gets to go.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

If being laughed at has any effect on Haikyu, it doesn't show. While he cannot understand what they said, their continued forward movement is response enough to his warning. Without saying anything more, he swings his branched sword into the closest Orc.

Inactive

Site was down for me this morning, apologies for the delay

Seeing the band of Orcs approaching, Haikyu draws his sword and prepares to stand between his new comrades and the oncoming battle. His eyes narrow and he lets out a low caw that sounds more like a growl than anything.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Without saying anything, Haikyu begins rifling through his pockets, before coming out with the same type of orb. Looking at it with a confused expression on his face, he shakes his head. "I was sent on a quest, but with nothing but what I carried."

Finding a smooth rock or tree stump, Haikyu puts the orb down on it and pecks at it with his beak, attempting to discern what it is made of, or even break it open.

Inactive

Haikyu nods to Book Wyrm and begins to explain. "I'm afraid that I cannot remember how I got here. I just woke up in the forest. I assume the same can be said for you?"

Before Book Wyrm can reply, however, Raffe comes through the bushes. Haikyu regards the wizard with curiosity. He cocks his head between the ravens as the other two talk about their religions, before such a question is posed to him.

"I would that I could, but no, I am not familiar with this Lissala. The path of enlightenment for me is paved by Grandmother Crow." He casts a significant glance at the two ravens. "I rather expected you both to be followers of her ways, given that you are to be my new flock."

Inactive

Celestial:
"It is a pleasure, truly. Many moons have passed since I have seen one of your kind. Many more than that since one who knew the tongue of our gods."

As Book Wyrm talks about the feeling in his gut, Haikyu takes a few moments to preen his feathers, feeling oddly embarrassed by his disheveled state in front of both Book Wyrm and Jack. "I came from the South. I followed the light." He gestures upwards, cocking his head at it.

"Tell us, Book Wyrm, have you any idea where we may be?"

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Haikyu cocks his head at the half-elf, noting the man did not answer his question, before leaning forward into a deep bow. "I am Haikyu." He paused for a second before continuing. "I search for the flock."

The languange it was speaking was unknown but felt good to the ears.

I actually speak Celestial but okay, I'll play along.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
1d100 ⇒ 53

Haikyu observed the half-elf for a moment, cocking his head at the raven as if to ask it what its business was being on someone's shoulder. Noticing that the man, taller than Haikyu, looked equally lost, Haikyu let out a greeting caw to the raven, and then began speaking in the Common tongue to the man. "Are you of the flock?"

Inactive

Noticing that the position of the light was moving in an unexpected direction as he walked, Haikyu changed his mind yet again. 'Should always trust my first reaction.' he thought to himself, turning and heading in a Northerly direction.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
1d100 ⇒ 82

Inactive

Haikyu opens his eyes slowly, blinking a few times in uncertainty. 'It would appear, as though this is real.' he thinks, forcing himself into a sitting position. Glancing from the tree stump to the bushes, Haikyu notes that he was not placed here of his own volition, as there are plenty of sticks around for him to have made a proper nest, not to sleep on a stump like some kind of halfling.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Sitting up, taking in a view of the clearing, Haikyu's memories begin to return to him. 'Ah, of course.' he thinks. "Grandmother Crow, lead me to the flock." he mutters, cocking his head and sweeping his vision around at the treetops.

Finally standing, Haikyu notes with some pleasure that his favourite stick is with him. Picking up the large staff in his talons, he glances around, trying to choose a direction based on the position of the sun. Realising that he has no idea where he is going, and that he can't possibly know where to go, he begins to head NW, but pauses after a second, and turns around. For some reason that he cannot describe, the tengu is compelled to travel South, walking between the trees, and searching for a path, and the reason he was brought.

1d100 ⇒ 46

RAVENS FOR EVERYONE.

Raffe Crymoff wrote:
I am taking a raven, but beyond it giving me a bonus on my appraise checks and it being able to speak a language I really don't know how to lay it out (can't even find its base creature stats to pull up) so... any help would be apreciated on it.

So, according to the book and SRD and stuff:

Quote:
A familiar is an animal chosen by a spellcaster to aid him in his study of magic. It retains the appearance, Hit Dice, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, skills, and feats of the normal animal it once was, but is now a magical beast for the purpose of effects that depend on its type. Only a normal, unmodified animal may become a familiar. An animal companion cannot also function as a familiar.

Which means you're looking for This.

Book Wyrm and I got our Loot Sheets done up - he added Weight to both our pages as well, since it makes sense to track everything together. I'm thinking I've got everything pretty much ready to go! Excited to get started. :)

@Haikyu: would you mind sending me a copy of that template? I'm curious to test how user friendly it is. If it can't be done directly here in the forums or thru PM, my email is dragonfang.em@gmail.com.

Sure thing! Sent it over.

Very comprehensive profile to boot. Did you format this manually?

I lifted the base formatting from someone else, but otherwise - yeah, I've gotten into using this for all my characters. It's super legible, which I like. And I always build my characters by hand, so it's not really a pain to slot everything in as I go.

Will add my QuickInfo bar later on today. I still need to do random gubbins purchasing, too, so I'll update the Loot sheet when I do that.

I'm slightly concerned about being the only even relatively front-line fighter, so I may tweak some things with my build over the next few hours. Then again, since we have two wizards, a sorcerer, and an oracle, I shouldn't be wanting for buffs. ;)

As an aside, I think Haikyu and Book Wyrm will get along marvelously.

Alright, YoricksRequiem here with my submission. Still a rough draft so I may take another run at it before the deadline. Feedback is welcomed!

Haikyu
Tengu Inquisitor

Side: Order
Deity: Andoletta (LG)
Mythic Path: Hierophant or Mashal, depending on how the game goes.

Crunch in Profile

Racial Background:
The tengu have always been an independent people - rarely traveling in groups large enough to constitute an entire flock, though they do enjoy companionship. From an early age, the tengu are encouraged to seek spiritual enlightenment. Their time is spent divided between training and personal meditation. Their leisure activities frequently include those which are expressive, or have a certain calmness to them - such as pottery making, poetry, fishing, or painting.

Each tengu is a law unto himself, bound only by his own sense of honour. The hierarchy within a tengu flock is not based on power or wealth as in other societies, but is instead based on knowledge. Elders, including ones parents, are all seen as teachers, to be respected. In a tengu flock, the most knowledgeable and often eldest tengu, the daitengu, resides above all the others, high atop the mountain, who provides guidance, counsel, and wisdom, to those who come seeking.

The tengu do not judge other races, preferring to allow each individual to stand or fall according to their own actions. They are not overly trusting, however, and tend to view non-tengu with caution and suspicion. Their first action with a new person tends to be testing their value.

Tengu who leave the flock have been susceptible to the influences of the outside world. In a human city, where wealth is based on material possessions, a tengu would be treated as a second class citizen, even seen as a ‘beast’ or scavenger, living on the streets or in shadow.

Some of them struggle to find places for themselves in these societies, and can turn to being a sellsword, or a thief, or, for those who remember that knowledge is power, even a spy, hoarding truth. A tengu would not generally have embarrassment or regret for their actions, following what they believe to be their path.

Whatever the status of a tengu, they see themselves as brothers, and do not impose their ways of life on each other, for enlightenment cannot be gained by following the path of another. They understand that individuals learn in their own ways. Their independence and lack of preachiness can make them seem secretive or reclusive.

Some believe that the tengu live a less spiritual life now than they did before they began living in cities, but many tengu would argue that their lives have always been about experiencing life and meditating on it, whatever it happens to be.

Character Background:
From an early age, Haikyu saw himself as eventually being a teacher to the next generation of tengu. While he was not as gifted a swordsman as many of his brethren, he was always seen by the elders as ‘wise beyond his years’, one of the highest forms a praise that the tengu can give.

However, even his own training was not complete when tragedy struck. A plague swept through Haikyu’s flock, and within two weeks the entire tribe was dead - save for him. The sickness was so terrible that he could not even consume his elders, which was a tengu tradition based around the idea of devouring their knowledge. Haikyu took what little he had and left the mountain and the trees, becoming a ronin.

He walked, and walked, and one morning, a flock of ravens flying overhead gave pause, forming a strange symbol in the sky that Haikyu had never seen before. A long raven flew down from the group, growing larger as it descended, and as it approached the ground, it transformed into an old woman with a cloak of dark feathers. “We have chosen you.” she explained, “to represent our people in a trial.”

Even a younger tengu like Haikyu could recognise the being for who she truly was. “Grandmother Crow,” he murmured, first with shock, and then squawked in anger when he processed her words. “Protector of the weak? Punisher of the sinful? Where were you when my flock lay dying?”

The woman’s wrinkled face quickly took the appearance of anger. “Would you know our mind?” She asked, her wrath shaking the very earth they stood on. “Our decisions? Managing a million intertwining threads?” Her wrath dissipated quickly, and the winds calmed again. “You have a lot to learn, little bird.”

Before Haikyu could speak, she continued. “Their path ended there. Yours did not. Mourn the loss and move on. There is work to be done, and yes, child, lives to be saved.”

Haikyu nodded, swallowing. “Where does my road lead?”

Character Personality / Description:

As with most tengu, Haikyu has dark blue-black feathers and a black beak. He stands shorter than an average human, but is quick-moving and clever. He is serious, and accustomed to being alone, and being something of a drifter.

Haikyu does not go out of his way to help others, believing that the struggles facing them are part of their own spiritual journey. If help is requested of him, however, he will oblige, believing that to be part of his own. He does, however, tend to be more sentimental and loyal than many other tengu - losing his entire community has made him somewhat overprotective of those he is with.

There will be things that set him apart from others, as quirks. When they bed down, he’ll gather sticks to make small nest-like structures to sleep in. He’ll likely preen and molt his feathers while deep in thought, especially while listening to explanations of others.

Other Notes:
I was considering taking the “Animal - Feather” domain, and taking a Raven animal companion at 4th, to represent my god keeping tabs on me. It wouldn’t necessarily be a manifestation of her, but might “report back” as it were. I’m still up in the air about it.
