About Hachek

A large, cloaked man approaches. He wears a red wide-brimmed hat that covers part of his face. He stands tall, 6 and half feet, and muscular. A heavy black cloak hangs from his shoulders. The handle of a large sword can be seen, protruding from the cloak over his shoulder. Beneath, he wears a heavy suit of blackened armor, emblazoned with the symbol of a red mantis.

When looking closely, he can be seen to be of orcish descent (a half-orc). His skin is tinged green, and lightly covered with a soft, almost fur-like, short hair. His bottom canines protrude from his mouth slightly. He has a heavy brow, and slightly pointed ears. The rest of his face, however, is very plain (if green & furry). His hair is black, cut short, and he has piercing, dark red eyes.

He is quiet, and does not often speak.

Hachek was an orphan. He remembers nothing of his parents, or how he came to be on Mediogalti Island, in the shady port town of Ilizmagorti. He grew up a nameless thief. One day, he came upon the Pagoda of the Mantis: the church of Achaekek in Ilizmagorti. Wandering inside, he met an elderly priest named Tuong. What that man saw in him, Hachek cannot say, but for whatever reason, Hachek was taken to live in the temple that day.

Hachek worked as the church's alter boy, assisting the clergy in whatever they needed doing. He was worked hard, but learned much. The ways of He Who Walks In Blood spoke to Hachek. He found himself asking the clergy more and more of their faith, and eventually dedicated himself to service of the Mantis God, taking on the name Hachek in his honor.

By this time, Hachek was growing into a tall, strong man. He yearned to serve the faith by physical combat, but his clumsiness hindered him with his deity's favored weapon: the sawtooth sabre. It is a weapon requiring much finesse and dexterity. It could not have been a worse match for Hachek.

One day, Hachek was exploring the crypts beneath the Pagoda, trying to take his mind off of his painfully slow progress at combat training. Deep in the catacombs, he stumbled upon a crypt he had never seen before: a ceremonial armory, made to honor some long-dead hero. He saw weapons on the walls. All were decorative, near useless in actual combat. But among the remains, clutched by a skeleton all too recognizable as one of orcish origin, was a massive blade bearing the symbol of Achaekek on it's hilt. Hachek took this as a sign, ecstatic to see proof of orc-blooded heros in the church's past. He claimed the blade, and brought it to show his elders. They were skeptical, but on seeing how well the heavy blade fit Hachek's combat style, they granted him permission to keep it, and began training him to use the sword to it's fullest. Hachek himself meticulously worked the blade, creating wicked notches along the length of one edge, to mimic the teeth of Achaekek's favored weapon.

Once he came of age, Hachek was set a task from the priests of the Pagoda of the Mantis. In the spirit of the Mantis God, Hachek was sent to infiltrate the Pathfinder Society, in the city at the center of the world: Absolom. The clergy saw in the Society's fastidious collection of artifacts the potential lust for power. They wanted Hachek to report on the Pathfinders' activities, and look for further dangers they may pose.

Hachek gladly accepted the assignment, eager to prove himself to his saviors, and make himself worthy of the Mantis' blessing. He journeyed to Absolom and applied for membership. His physical prowess ensured he had no difficulty becoming an official Pathfinder agent. In order to waylay any suspicion, Hachek sought companions of similar ideals to associate with. After the fall of the Shadow Lodge and Grandmaster Torch (who were so dedicated to bettering the Society), he was left to find others. He found many Pathfinders from the nation of Cheliax who shared outlooks with him. Though he remains wary of some of their ambitions, Hachek respects the teachings of Asmodeus, and the dedication of the Chelaxians to law and order. Hachek now keeps an eye on the Society's activities, and reports any potential dangers to his superiors in Ilizmagorti. He sometimes aids the Chelaxian interests during Pathfinder missions with minor problems he is in a position to solve, as long as it does not interfere with his principles or greater mission.
