Hi folks. You might have noticed I've been absent for a while. My apologies. I'm dealing with a bunch of overlapping life changes that have left me wiped out during my small amount of free time.

I can't reliably post right now, and I'm not sure when that will change, so I'm reluctantly dropping out of this game.

I've really enjoyed the character interactions. If I can sort out real life I'll come back and beg to rejoin.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Nicely done.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grial was relieved he hadn't needed to say anything. He gave the woman a nod and followed after the rest of the group.

"What is the Circle?" he asked once they were out of earshot.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grial stood at the back of the group, looming and looking passively menacing. When Correna started talking to the human woman he realized he should probably make an effort to be personable. He smiled in a way he hoped was reassuring, but actually wasn't.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Sounds good to me.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Nothing to at at the moment.

Grial waited quietly.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grial had no frame of reference for anything that was happening. he just shrugged.

This must be what the norn-sisters meant when they talked about learning to listen to the wind.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

"The person's name is Alsorin. I know little beyond that," Grial said, his tone a bit stiff.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Apparently my plan is "follow ladies and be scary"

Grial seemed pensive about what he'd agreed to do, like he was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Still, he was present and at least begrudgingly willing to help them with... whatever they were doing. After the complete disaster that his introduction to Correna and Gen had been he figured he ought to make it up to them. Maybe then he'd be able to actually look at either of them without turning darker colors.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Ready.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

"What's wrong with giving babies beer?" Grial asked, genuinely confused. "It's like bread, but liquid. Easier to stomach. Helps with sleep."

Grial was clearly raised by Orcs and Ulfen.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

"Dragons are not possessions, or pets." Grial said as gently as he could. "They are people. Squall is a baby. Her egg was cracked and hatched far too early. I was there when she emerged. She imprinted on me as a parent. In order to keep her alive we created a bond. She is my familiar. So, even if she were mine to give away, I could not."

Grial turned his attention to Gen. "I am here seeking a person named Alsorin. So far, my efforts are in vain. As long as your endeavor does not detract from my own, I am willing to help you."

Why did I say that? I have known these women five minutes and already feel like I am courting disaster.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grail was finishing off Squall's mug of beer before the little dragon could get drunker, and promptly choked on it. After coughing for a few moments he gave the human woman an exasperated look.

"Keeping beautiful ladies usually ends up poorly for me," he said cautiously. "What is it that you are planning to do?"

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

"Nevermind," Grial muttered. Glad for something to do other than talk awkwardly or get caught looking places he shouldn't, he stooped and got to cleaning.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grial stared after Correna in a daze, completely forgetting his manners. Once she was out of sight his half-unfocused eyes slowly moved to the attractive, mischievous human. He seemed like he was trying to figure out if she was actually a disguised demon. He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came. Instead he shook his head, sat down, and finished his mug of beer in one long pull.

"I have been here only a few hours," he muttered. "I arrived, and the whole town was in a panic. Now this. Have I wandered into Nival? The First World? Limbo? There is no other excuse for this madness."

Tweety birds are circling Grial's head.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grial knew a thing or two about traps. This one was as devious as any he'd encountered before.

He managed to find his voice after a stuttering moment. "I know better than to argue with dragons. It is nearly as foolish a thing as touching a woman without permission."

He gave the half-orc woman's corset only a glance before averting his eyes. Instead he focused on the little girl. That seemed much safer.

"I am sorry, child. Dragons do as they please. At the moment, this one seems to want only to be belligerent and get me into trouble."

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grial's eyes went as wide as saucers. He made a strangled sound and started to reach for the dragon, stopped himself, and stood there paralyzed looking like he might explode and die.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

"She is... very young. Prematurely hatched. She cannot speak yet. I think she understands some words, but it is hard to tell," Grial said, seeming much more comfortable talking about Squall than himself.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

The lanky half-orc looked like he had no idea what to make of the situation he found himself in. He gave the little dragon a pleading, accusatory glance, and then rumbled "I am unbothered."

He was clearly bothered.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

He choked out a small laugh at Squall's antics in spite of his obvious discomfort, and shook his head, seeming somehow defeated but also less tense. "I'm Grial."

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grial stared at the table like he was trying to light it on fire with his mind. He was pale enough from his human heritage that he was actually capable of blushing, which he did, all the way to the tips of his ears.

"Squall," he managed to croak out when the child asked him the dragon's name.

He took a long drink of the second mug as it was placed in front of him, his eyes flicking to the attractive woman that was suddenly asking his name.

"I'm..."

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

The lanky half-orc clearly had no idea what to do now that he'd been noticed by the women he'd been watching. He gave the small dragon an accusatory look, then focused all his attention on staring at the bar in front of him.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

With a sigh, the half-orc ordered another beer.

Grial was a bit surprised to see another of his orcish kin in this town, but he wasn't the sort to go interrupt a group of women in conversation. He still bore scars from that particular lesson.

He tried not to watch them, but mostly failed. They were all very pretty. Even the child seemed like she would grow up to be quite striking.

He found his gaze wandering back and forth between the human and the orc-kin. It was strange to see such different kinds of beauty side by side.

He ordered a drink to give himself something else to do rather than stare.

With no other leads to follow, Grial headed to the Creekside Tavern to look for Alsorin, and also lodging for himself.

Elsewhere, the lanky orc was looking for someone to ask directions of, but the whole town seemed to still be in a moderate panic.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

The tall, lanky half-orc watched the scurrying townsfolk with concerned amusement. He was an odd sight. His orcish heritage was strong, but he was dressed in the fashion of an Ulfan. His clothes were furs and leather, embroidered with pale blue runes. A braided torque of two different metals hugged his thick neck and held his cloak in place. His hair was shaved on the sides of his head. His scalp was adorned with a mixture of Orcish scarification and Ulfan runic tattoos. The multicultural pattern ran down his neck and disappeared beneath his armor. The rest of his hair was worn long and styled in many braids, some of which ended in small beads made of bone or metal. They were pulled back like a thick ponytail, with two braids used to tie a knot around the rest.

An axe and a bow rose over his right shoulder. On his left her wore a large falconer's pauldron, on which sat a newly hatched white and blue dragon. It was taking int he surroundings with an expression that was very similar to the half-orc's. Their heads turned in synch as they began to walk through town.

He was somewhat glad for all the panic. He tended to draw eyes in human settlements, and right now no one seemed to be paying attention to him.

1) Father, yes.

2) RotRL. That's the one I'm more familiar with personally.

3) Let's say Grial is 20. He was raised by his mother's people until he was a teenager, then went to find his father's people after the events of RotRL.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

My loose backstory is that Grial's parents were both Legacy Heroes. One of the other Legacy heroes might have sent him a message.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

I think Grial is new in town, and came here because of his parents legacy as heroes. A friend requested aid from his father, but his father could not come personally so he sent Grial in his stead.

I'll need your help coming up with who sent the request for help, and why.

I stopped getting updates on this game. Thanks for the PM.

Caught up now. I'll jump in as soon as I'm introduced.

I think Roderic's Cove was his intended destination. He was sent by his clan to help with something (as part of an old debt he knows nothing about).

I know what Grial is there, I just don't know how long it's been since he arrived.

Here's Inari 2.0 (now with 100% less Inari).

The background is changeable, as is the choice of religion. Gozreh just seemed like the best choice for a nature-y character. I'm willing to swap to any god that fits the game batter.

Doomed Hero here submitting my Half-Orc Warpriest/Shaman.

Grial is extremely versatile, fitting just about any party role. He's a switch hitter who can frontline or support as needed. In future levels he'll pick up some great healing abilities via Life Spirit and support spellcasting from both his classes. Where he really shines though, is in the Scout role, sneaking, spotting, tracking, finding traps and picking locks. (He's basically the weirdest rogue ever)

As a player, I'm a vet of these boards. I'm reliable, dedicated and post frequently. I enjoy the scout role because it helps me push the game forward and help the story unfold. Exploration-heavy games are where I feel I shine as a player, so the premise of this AP really calls to me.

Grial considered releasing the arrow he'd trained on Valence, but turned and fired at the bear. He looked practically bored.

Hornbow attack, divine favor, precise shot: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 2 = 18

^ Grial sees it the same.

As a player, the way this whole situation has played out has raised a few red flags to me. I have had bad experiences in the past with extremely powerful GMPC characters, stables of NPC characters built with rules/templates the players don't have access to ,and and no-save reality-altering illusions. To see all three happening at once in a game has me concerned.

I'm willing to stick it out to see how things unfold. I'm hoping this is just early-game roughness that will smooth out as things progress.

"I agree with the gnome." Grail rumbled. "I am not a plaything to be toyed with and I am done being tested. If you are so powerful as to do this, than you can make the voyage yourself."

Grail doesn't take his eyes off the frog-elf, but he does lower his bow slightly. He nods a grunt of thanks as the healing washes over him.

"You tried to kill us." Grial said to Valence angrily.

Readied action to shoot Valence if he casts any spells.

Wisdom: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Grial glanced over his shoulder. The spider monster did not seem to be a threat yet. The only danger was the reptile attacking his kinsman.

Grial did not understand what was going on, but he knew who was responsible.

He notched another arrow and leveled it toward the frog-elf.

"Stop this. Now." he barked.

HP: 10/10 | AC: 17 | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +6, R: +4, W: +7 | Perc: +8 | Init: +5 | Active Conditions: none

Grial was shocked and confused. First this frog-elf advertised for help. Then he asked people he was hiring to purchase their own equipment. Then he indicated he did not need a guide. Then he teleported the entire group to an unknown location full of strange creatures.

And now he was summoning monsters to attack them.

The frog-elf was clearly insane, and possibly outright evil, but Grial had to deal with the immediate threat first. He took a step back, drew his bow and shot the dinosaur.

5' adjust back. Swift action, activate Divine Favor with Fervor. Firing Bleed Arrow at nearest Dino.

Ranged Attack, Divine Favor, Deadly Aim: 1d20 + 7 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 3 - 1 = 29
Damage, divine favor, deadly aim: 2d6 + 4 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 + 3 + 2 = 16 +1 Bleed damage

Edit: Crit Confirm

Crit?: 1d20 + 7 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 3 - 1 = 14

Grial watched his new companions, baffled and already feeling his patience waning. He could endure a blizzard, but he wasn't sure if he could endure this. Perhaps it was a new kind of trial to be faced and learned from? Or perhaps it was simply chaos. Not everything had to have purpose.

"When do we leave?" he rumbled to no one in particular.
