And avast ye scurvy dogs, have a happy talk like a pirate day or I'll make ye walk the plank! ;)

(Although I don't really talk like that. And technically I'm not a pirate...I'm a privateer. There's a difference. I have a piece of paper from the government that says I'm legally allowed to rob you blind. ;P)

Not bad...not bad at all. What else you got?

"Well, if you're fond of the dark rum, we also have some Flor de Caña, as well as some overproofs - 160-proof to be precise," as he checks one of the bottles behind him.

"We've also got some flavored rums, and our spiced rums are mostly dark-based, so the flavor's exceptional. And our base selection of gold rums, but you said you wanted to wait on those til later."

"So what's your pleasure? One at a time, or the Sampler tray?"

Definitely the sampler tray. :)

"Welcome, and a Happy Yule to you too, ma'am! Look no further - we have a pretty good selection of rum here. You want to try one, or do you feel up to trying them all?" Devlyn asks with a grin from behind the bar.

Definitely up to trying them all. Start with the good stuff, save the cheap ones for when I'm too drunk to appreciate them...assuming you even have that much rum. ;)

Merry Christmas and all that. Now where can a girl get some rum around here?

After they have finished eating, Gracie gives them a tour of the ship, explaining what the normal routine of the crew looks like. She ends the tour on the main deck.

"I'm not planning to split your group up. You've obviously learned to work well as a team. However, for the first couple of days, while you're still learning the ropes, I am going to assign each of you to a specific crew member. You'll follow along with them and do what they tell you."

"That guy over there is Jonas," she says pointing to a half-orc up in the rigging. "He's the first mate and I'm not assigning any of you to follow him because he's way too busy."

"This is Xikti'irrr," she says, nodding to a thri kreen waiting patiently nearby. "Quick, you're going to be working with him."

"And over there is Cherry-Blossom," she added, pointing to a Hadozee behind the ship's wheel. "She's our pilot. Nimm, you'll be working with her."

"OY! Jace! Get out here!" A frail bookish human steps out of a cabin, squinting in the sunlight. "This is our navigator, Jace d'Aronte. Kauul, you'll be working with him."

A gnome with wild blue curls comes scampering out of the storeroom with a basket of potatoes. "And that is Horace. He's the ship's cook. Adrick, you'll be working with him."

Gracie waves over a petite young woman with a bell on a ribbon tied around her neck. "And this is Blessing. Fin you'll be working with her. Try not to be too hard on him," she adds to the girl.

"Sanura, you'll be working with Sssysssil if I can ever figure out where he's gone. Well, just look for the lizardfolk. He's the only one on the boat so it's pretty easy to figure out which one he is," she added with a grin.

"Arioch, you'll be working with Warek over there," [i]she said, pointing to a large Darfellan who was currently working on mending sails.

"Garan, you'll be working with Thlios," she added, indicating a kobold with a dour expression currently swabbing the deck as if his life depended on it. "He's a little obsessive about his work. Try and make sure that he actually lets you do something once in a while."

"Alright, people, daylight's wasting. Let's get to work!"

"A cook as well as a healer! Well, we are doubly blessed to have you join us, Adrick. Welcome to the crew."

"Well met, Captain. My name is Arioch, I am a gillman. Very comfortable in the sea, but not very used to being on the surface. I will travel with you, and depart when Kauul finds it to be time to leave."

"Then welcome to the crew Arioch. I hope both you and Kauul find yourselves comfortable and happy here."

Fin leans over the table and begins speaking surprisingly fast. "Well, as I already told you I am a simple Purveyor of Quality Goods, and like most Purveyors of Quality Goods I'm surprisingly good at convincing people. Let's face it, I could sell half your crew the shirts off their own back for exorbitant prices, no offense to your crew. Why not let me join? After all, you can't solve all your problems with a few feet of steel, sometimes you need a silver tongue. So, whenever you need a decent deal, come to Honest Finial." He finally takes a breath and opens his arms wide, smiling in an untrustworthy way.

"Oh yeah, and I can do this." Fin then raises his hand at the candle and a bolt of eldritch energy shoots out, reducing it to several small hunks of wax.

Gracie burst out laughing. "Fineal, I'd gladly keep you on if for no other reason than that you make me laugh, but it's good to know that you have other useful talents as well. And I'll be warning the crew not to be playing cards with you any time soon," she added mirthfully.

I can understand your reluctance, especially after your previous experience. I think that you will find that I am a fair captain. I don't force my crew to stay on if they don't wish to. You can make your own decision when we next reach port.

Quentin pushes up to his feet and gives Gracie a partial bow and a smile. "As I said before, my name is Quentin Silverhome, though you may call me Quick. My primary skill lies in my blade, though I certainly know my way around a ship. I'm comfortable whether it is simple sailing, climbing the mast, or in the water."

"Welcome to the crew, then, Quick. I expect a lot from you. Don't let me down," she added with a smile.

Sanura Agashti wrote:
Sanura smiles to Gracie, "I would like to stay and offer my help if it is needed. I am mainly skilled with things in nature, and my magic is based around that. My kind also live in the sea, so I am able to swim as normally as I can walk on land."

"Useful skills indeed. Welcome to the crew. Hopefully this will be a better experience than the last one," she added with a grin.

After giving you a decent amount of time for discussion, Gracie returns and looks around at each of you.

"I'd like each of you to tell me your decision as well as some basic idea of what your skills are. In no particular order."

She looks around at all of you waiting for someone to speak.

"Alright, I'll be straight with you," she said crisply, sitting up straighter and obviously switching into captain mode. "I don't hold with involuntary recruitment. So if any of you are looking to get back on dry land, I'll drop you there next time we pull into port. However, we're out at sea now and I'm not making a special trip for you. I have my own schedule to keep. I'm happy to give as many of you as would like a place on my crew. But even if you'd rather not I expect you to haul your weight while you're onboard my ship. Think of it as payment for your passage. I'd like to hear from each of you. I don't expect an answer right this minute. I'm going to go back on deck and leave you alone to discuss things among yourselves for a bit. When I come back I'll ask each of you to tell me your decision and also a bit about what your skills are. Enjoy your meal, and I'll be back in a bit."
With that she walks out of the galley and back up the ladder to the main deck.

"Oh, it was called The Abigail? Learn something new every day. Why did she have to be facing me when she did that? Now my coat's going to end up sticky..."

Gracie burst out laughing as she heard Fin's muttered complaints.

"I'm sorry, Fin," she chuckled.

Quentin Silverhome wrote:
"The vessel we were aboard was the Abigail, Captain."

Gracie was taking a drink as this was said, and spatters of liquid were sprayed outwards as she choked and coughed.

"The Abigail? You're serious? I've known pirates less cutthroat than that lot."

"Well, it sounds like you fell in with a bad lot. Now would someone please tell me which bad lot that might be? It sounds like you were press-ganged, but you still haven't mentioned by who or where. So far I've heard about a sadistic bosun and a drow. And someone sliced the bosun's hammock which somehow led to you all being stranded at sea in a dinghy. Perhaps one of you might like to elaborate a little?"

Quentin Silverhome wrote:
Once everyone else has finished boarding, Quentin climbs aboard and gives Gracie a bow and a smile. "My name is Quentin Silverhome, though you may call me Quick. Is there any way we can be of assistance before the meal is prepared? I of course understand if you wish to keep us under watch as you haven't heard our story yet."

"Relax, Quick. I'm sure I'll be putting you to work soon enough. For now, we'll get you all a good meal, and you can all tell me how exactly you ended up all alone in a dinghy in the middle of the ocean."

You are all ushered into the galley and given bread, cheese, and vegetable stew. After you've had a chance to eat, Gracie looks around the group.

"So, who's going to be the one to tell me the story?"

Adrick Balasar wrote:

Adrick steps up and says " Greetings Mi lady, my name is Adrick Balasar, Brother and follower of the Sun Goddess and surely the Sun Maiden has shined upon thee to have been found in the company of such a fine vessel and captain. If any of your crew need I am an able healer and would be most honored to help in any way I can."

Diplomacy (1d20+6=24)

"And quite the charmer I see," she says with a smile and a wink. "Welcome aboard, Adrick Balasar," she adds, clapping his shoulder soundly. "We'll try not to put your healing talents too much to the test, gods willing."

She laughs. "We'll talk about that over a meal, sailor. I want to hear all about what you lot have been up to before I decide where you'll be the most use now."

"Permission granted," she said with a laugh, "but if you call me ma'am again I'll knock you into the middle of next week."

Gracie looks over at the dinghy covered with manta ray leather. Her eyebrows raise.
"Well, well. This is going to be an interesting story. Yes, bring the meat on board. We can make it into stew. I'm not above stretching our supplies with a lucky catch."

"No offense intended, 'Honest' Fineal. I do enjoy a good story, and it sounded like you had the makings of one started there. It also sounds like the truth is even more interesting. So how about somebody starts at the beginning and tells me exactly what happened. In fact, why don't you tell me over an honest-to-goodness-not-fish dinner. That sound alright?"

Sense Motive:28

"Well, that must have been an exciting experience. You're lucky to have survived. What sort of boat was it? The one that sunk, I mean."
The corner of her mouth keeps twitching into a smile, like she ould burst out laughing any moment.

Quentin Silverhome wrote:
Quentin waits to let the others climb up the ladder first, waiting to help balance the boat until they are up and then following after. He shakes his head a bit. "No offense, of course. It has been many years since last we met, but I hail from Mertan's Cove as well. Though I can't say I have been home too recently."

"Well that would explain it," she said with an amused twinkle in her eyes. "You were probably about two feet shorter the last time I saw you, it's been that long since I was last in Mertan's Cove."

"So how did you lot end up in a dinghy in the middle of the ocean? There has to be some story to that."

Quentin Silverhome wrote:
Quentin chuckles a bit to himself and then pushes up to his feet in the boat, waving up to the approaching ship. "Ahoy, up there! We certainly could use a lift." He gives a bit of a bow towards the boat. "Well met, Gracie. It has been some time."

"Do I know you? You do look a little familiar... No offense meant. I meet a lot of people in my line of work."

"Come on you lot, let's get this lot on board, quickly now."

A rope ladder is lowered for you to climb up, and a couple of burly sailors, a half-orc and a half-giant, move to tie up the dinghy and raise it up out of the water.
