About Gill Xcehtoc

Gill is 3 ft tall and a scrawny 35 pounds. Like most kobolds he has a skulky curved posture and quick eye movements. He is red all over with a small grouping of light brown kobold ridges crowning his head. He also has a small orange diamond shaped patch on his forehead between his eyes. He has beady black eyes and sharp spiny teeth.
He wears a hood/cowl with no cape or robe. He is also wearing form fitting dark brown leather armor, a leather vest with his arms exposed. Leather pants that go to halfway down his calf leading to bare feet. His backpack is held on by a black bandolier going from his right should to his left hip. A dagger is also attached to his bandolier.
On his black belt two small pouches hang holding small items. Crossbow bolts stick end up out of the opening in his backpack and his crossbow itself is lying over his backpack on his back attached to him by a tin leather strap also crossing across his chest.

Gill's backstory:
Gill was a late bloomer. Born in a small cave a few miles from the great city of Waterdeep Gill was one of a handful of stray kobolds attempting to form a new tribe. One day a mercenary patrol hired by the city of Waterdeep to clear the surrounding area of pests fell upon their ramshackle group. Gill was just 2 years old, barely a speck. Being the only child kobold one female compassionate mercenary spared his life. She insisted he have a chance at good and brought him back to Waterdeep. She was paid a small bounty for him and he was jailed for 5 years. Gill has a vague memory of this time and thinks of it fondly as "preschool." After 5 years was up he was deemed a waste of prison space and was released onto the street. Most 7 year old anythings would have died but Gill was lucky. At the time there was a gang of children running loose in the slums and being a small lizard man the kids instantly liked him. This worked out for Gill for several years and in the gang he met a true companion. Jimmy Bastardson a stocky bull faced youth shared a particular passion for robbing and deception with Gill and at 10 they began their real crime careers. Without guidance or responsibility they honed their dark skills and made themselves a meager living. By this time the boys grew past the gang and ran their own operations. Times were good and their business gained decent money. By 16 they managed to rent a row house and open a shop front where they fenced their goods. This life was safe for them for awhile. Not really looking for any future other than fortune they became myopic about what they were doing, the danger they brought on themselves. They were both 20 when the trouble started and a prominent gang in Waterdeep got wind of their profits. The Black Tongue syndicate began squeezing them for tribute and Jimmy and Gill had no option but to comply. Jimmy hated this. Gill never understood and for years tried to convince Jimmy that they still had more than enough money to grow; which they did. Still Jimmy was smart and had too much ambition. He plotted his revenge slowly and kept it from Gill until it was time to act. Jimmy had learned that the Black Tongue had their eyes on a rare mysterious item owned by some rich citizen of Waterdeep. How long he knew this Gill didn't know but he knew Jimmy had been planning something for a long time. Just to spite the syndicate Jimmy planned to steal this item under the gang's nose. He let Gill in on the details and for 4 months they cased and planned the heist. They did it. But not without consequence. The Black Tongue found out instantly and placed a hit on Jimmy for hiding the theft and a bounty for the item. Gill didn't know this. One day Jimmy confronted Gill, he was disheveled and panicked holding a bag. He thrust the bag at Gill and said "take this and run, leave the city, leave this land, there is a boat for you at 'Jingles' at the dock. The passage is paid, we can't let them win." Jimmy ran off without giving Gill a chance to reply, disappearing in a second. Gill knew from his friend's fear that Jimmy was dead. He knew he'd never see his friend again. So Gill went, found the boat and left. Over the sea for many nights Gill didn't care to count, kept to himself and ultimately arrived. The moon shaes, Callidyr. Booze had become very common in Gill's life and for a bit he lived in depression. He had a decent amount of money and in a month spent most of it. Still he lugged this item around, this memory of Jimmy. He didn't know what it was or why the Black Tongue liked it so much but to him it was his last memory of his best friend, so he kept it. Eventually he sobered up and not liking the size of his wallet his lust for gold returned. For a couple weeks he planned his move, found his target and close in. One night, the perfect night, he moved in. It was a small general good merchant near the docks. He broke in undetected, he filled his bag undetected, he left through the window he entered, detected. Gill was paranoid, he didn't feel right. One day one of the connections he had in the city tipped him off that the guards were onto a kobold burglar and that was enough. He packed his bags and loot and left the city that day, undetected. He didn't know where to go, he just went. Along his walk to anywhere he came across a graveyard. The strap from the bag carrying the glowing object, the token of Jimmy, Gill carried around, became heavy. He didn't know why but he knew he couldn't carry it anymore. He dug up a grave, placed the bag and filled the hole. For the first time in his life he cried, however a kobold cries. He kept going and ended up in a fishing town he knew nothing about.

Gill's True Backstory:
Gills real story

Gill IS smart for a kobold but he is fallibly naïve. The truth of Gill’s story starts not long after the beginning of his life. Gill was born into a clan of kobolds but not a small struggling one, rather a thriving dragon blood clan. The Spine of the World was their home, rough dangerous mountains, his clan was prominent at the southern edge. They had many allies, from orcs, goblins and ogres to trolls and many more.
Gill was indeed captured during a raid on his clan’s main encampment, a grouping of hundreds of kobolds, during the night and not by any city’s mercenaries or patrols, but by necromancers. Waterdeep does come into play at this point, the Necromancers and Warlocks were part of a small but extremely wealthy secret society in Waterdeep known as ‘Asmodeus’ Throat’, naturally they worshipped the Evil King Asmodeus. For a few hundred years this small sect existed and passed down their demonic ways to child after child. The group only consists of a few, but powerful, evil magic users who secretly perform twisted rituals known to a few but completely ignored by Waterdeep’s authorities due to their power in politics and wealth in the city.
Gill was captured to be used in one of their more extreme schemes, the summoning of a Draco-Lich. Gill was simply a component that had to grow and they caught him as a baby. As it would seem Gill’s specific bloodline was strong with Red Dragon blood which was crucial for the spell. Any kobold or even young dragon could be selected but Gill was just happened to be the one. They kept him sealed tight in a dungeon at this point, the place Gill thinks was just the city jail.
Gill was never released but rather the rogue operation ‘The Black Tongue’ lead him to his release, Gill simply does not make this connection. He was led directly by ‘The Black Tongue’ to the child gang he grew up with. He naturally continued his progression as previously describe at this point, meeting his friend Jimmy Bastardson.
At this point the ‘Asmodeus’ Throat’ cult totally forgot about Gill and moved on to whatever their ambitions wanted. Gill did start a business with Jimmy at young adult age and did well, but Gill was not privy to the knowledge that at this point Jimmy had begun his initiation into ‘The Black Tongue’. *There was certainly some reason why the thieves guild decided to act against the evil cult, surely simply to stop their actions, guilds fight weirdly that way.* Jimmy had risen in the ranks of the guild and was approaching the coveted rank of lieutenant but in order to pass into a seat of command one must make an offense against another guild.
Jimmy tricked Gill into stealing the orb of souls owned by the necromancers. But by the time Gill saw Jimmy again Jimmy was running. He was made lieutenant for the job but shortly after having Gill perform the heist the “Black Tongue” was dealt a heavy blow by the necromancers. The top tier members of the thieves guild were all killed leaving only lieutenants to rule the guild. Jimmy took only his small group of his most trusted killers and thieves and ditched Gill with the orb, which Gill later buried*, and went on to leave Waterdeep in the false belief that the Black Tongue was hunting him. Now he ends up on this strange island.
