Sewer Ratfolk Sewer Ratfolk Reputation Seeker Alchemist 1 | ♥ 15/15 | AC 17 | Fort +6, Ref +8, Will+4 (+1 to saves vs. diseases and poisons)| Perception +4

Gexi continues to look around and runs his hands along his snout, smoothing his whiskers down. He notes Pileus' attention being drawn to the musician. He opens his mouth to speak but only a slight chirp-like sound comes out as a large shadow falls over his sight. On instinct, Gexi opens his closed eye, revealing the red glow for just a quick glimpse.

As the massive orc speaks in a booming voice, Gexi notes he seems well spoken. Perhaps this orc is not a threat. "I fear for the enemies facing you. This Call for Heroes has attracted a lot of attention. I hope the jobs being asked of us aren't too dire."

He raises his hand in a weak wave. "Name's Gexi."

If this orc is up for consideration, I may need to wait until the next Call.

I just realized when I loaded my gear on the profile, I completely forgot his weapons. Nothing major, but figured I'd add them.

As the crowd gathers in the open sun, a scruffy ratfolk dressed in simple robes over light armor scans around the people. Some might think the sun hurts his eyes, as he keeps one shut against the glare. If not for the pack on his back, he might look like any other craftsmen with the various tools strapped to his limbs and carried upon his belt. After a few moments he finally sees a somewhat familiar face, so he tightens a few straps on his gear as he approaches Pileus in the crowd.

”Pileus, my friend,” Gexi says a little too loudly in the gathered crowd. ”I thought the meeting was to begin at midday. I’m just glad I didn’t oversleep. Any idea what the urgency is?” Gexi’s voice cracks slightly revealing his lack of confidence at the moment. His whiskers twitch and he fidgets unconsciously, but he tries to hide it.

So open here. No where to bolt. But at least the press of the crowd is comfortable.

Pileus would never pass up a chance to discuss his favorite subject. He considers all fungi friends and loves talking about them, although he would disapprove of harvesting fungi for purposes other than sustenance or medicine. Not sure how open Gexi would be about wanting to make poisons out of them.

He would be very excited to share in a love of fungi and wouldn't shy away from his reason. But if it was clear that Pileus found the idea distasteful, he would stick to the medicinal nature (as well as food). He's an excitable and friendly rat, not a poison fanatic.

Of note, if you want to play up Pileus' distaste at fungus based poisons, Gexi would totally respect that and not make or use them. At least eventually once they become friends.

Gexi is a stranger in town, but likely would have arrived a little ahead of time. He's not standoff-ish though, so if others would have engaged him in the inn/tavern, he'd gladly talk to them. It sounds like Pileus may have at least seen Gexi.

If Pileus would be inclined, Gexi might approach him to see if he would know of any local poisonous mushrooms. Gexi wouldn't even consider if this would be offensive, he's just excited to learn about things and an opportunity might be there.

Gexi checking in here as well. Glad to be joining such a fun looking group.

Edit: Before we finalize characters, we should probably make sure skills are decently covered. Is someone planning on taking Medicine or Thievery? Those are probably the two most irreplaceable ones.

Gexi will be among those focusing on thievery. Might take medicine at some point, but my healing will likely come from alchemy, and isn't going to be the primary focus.

For our GM, the player guide states there’s opportunity to use downtime activities like Crafting across the length of the AP. Will that be the case for your rendition?

I am highly interested in this answer.

And a general question to the group, which is more for future consideration, who would appreciate having a poisoned weapon? Part of the idea is to share them among the group. Along with antidotes, just in case.

Looks like a tough decision.

I do have one quick update for Gexi. In terms of future plans, I was debating between Inventor and Rogue for the Free Archetype. The character doesn't feel right with inventor but rogue fits the ideas that developed as I set things down on "paper". Thanks.

May I present Gexi, the Ratfolk Toxicologist. He has come to Breachill to seek fame and fortune by joining a group of heroes in saving the town. At least it what he envisions happens at the Call for Heroes.

He is a sewer rat alchemist focused on poison. I am interested in pairing him with Inventor as the Free Archetype but if that doesn't fit the group (or isn't allowed by the GM) he also works as a Rogue. His background is Reputation Seeker.

Gexi’s Backstory:
Gexi was raised among the sewers beneath the streets of Egorian, the capital city of Cheliax. One of a young brood born in a small enclave of black market alchemists, Gexi spent many hours among the venomous vermin and crops they kept as both food and ingredients. Unfortunately, disaster struck before Gexi was much older than a pup.

Gexi still does not remember much of that cycle. There were screams and running, and fires. His brood was lead out into the greater tunnels but they found no escape there. He remembers a smell, it overpowered the scent of burning fur, but the never saw the source. He saw his fellow pups fall behind and soon found himself alone, cowering in fear. He was grabbed, carried, and all he could do is scream as well.

After a moment Gexi twisted and saw he was being carried by an unrecognized ysoki. He knew a merchant’s caravan has come by, but he had been too young to go see. It soon became clear this ysoki was from that caravan and they somehow had rescued Gexi. They ran deeper into the tunnels until they found others from the caravan, but they never found anyone from Gexi’s enclave.

Once the caravan was safely away, the saviors introduced themselves. Jokul was a scout, and it was he who found Gexi at first. His mate, Linn, was an herbalist and merchant. She had been looking for certain mushrooms from Gexi’s cave, which was why Jokul had come looking when trouble struck. They had a young brood already and figured Gexi could join them as they travelled to their next stop in the Darklands.

Many years passed, Gexi grew beside his many adopted siblings. Jokul instilled some scouting skills, teaching him how to survival away from the cities and especially below the surface world. It was Linn though, that taught him the most. None of Gexi’s adopted brood showed interest in Linn’s work, but Gexi took to it immediately. Herbalism was her focus, but she had picked up many techniques of a traditional alchemist. Gexi’s natural comfort with venoms and his hardy stamina with them lead to him focusing on poisons of all sorts.

During the years of travelling, both on the surface and among the darkness, the rests were filled by Jokul’s stories. Jokul’s youth was also spent among the caravan trails, but he yearned for more. He wanted to impress the young Linn (though she always reminded him, she was already impressed) and needed fame and fortune to do so. It was during one trip upon the surface that Jokul found his chance, and he loved telling the stories of his brief but successful life of adventure.

Jokul had come to Breachill, and heard of their Call for Heroes. Jokul borrowed a suit of armor and some arms, and went forth to find adventure. Gexi would listen intently, and as he grew, he began to feel the same desire of fame and fortune he heard about.

Now, in his seventieth seventh season, the caravan approached Breachill. Gexi prepared to for the Call for Heroes. He gathered his tools, his arms, and modified his heavy apron to serve as armor. Jokul and Linn encourage him, knowing among their brood, only Gexi would be so brave as to strike out on his own.

I will load the build later this weekend but here are links to his image and the Pathbuilder sheet.

I have updated the background for Ethelinda. Added some more specific elements with names and such, as well as more of a connection to Korvosa and Varisia, and to the Campaign Trait I took. Thanks for the consideration.

May I submit Ethelinda Botezatu, Chelish-Varisian Cleric of Iomedae. Trained in both Korvosa and Cheliax. Marked by the Inheritor for a great fate.

I still want to add details on what the abilities do for ease of reference and I need to add spells, but everything else should be pretty set. The story is a bit rough but I am hoping it will provide some points of reference.

The main thing is she is cleric because she found the idea of being a Paladin (and a Hellknight) to be too heavy handed and less about helping people, which she finds most rewarding. This is why she is NG and not LG. Eventually the plan is for her to take levels in Holy Vindicator PrC, most likely at level 9.

Overall, this AP is one of my favorites, if not my favorite and I have wanted to play in it forever. I find the story interesting and an example of a heroic story fit for heroic characters.

Thanks for running and thanks for the consideration.
