About Genjô Fa Xian The Land of Sîshen:
Sîshen is a land guarded from all others. In the West, the Mountains of Dálông are occupied by the Dragon clans of the Lông people. The Lông are heavy-handed nobles that would like the rest of Sîshen to believe that it is their divine right to rule the whole country. The Lông have slightly draconic features, such as claws and tendrils that appear like facial hair. On the southernmost end of Sîshen are the Sheering Cliffs. Dropping over a thousand feet into the ocean below, at the lowest point, the area is unsuitable to use as a port. To the guarding the East are the Lûjing Fêng Dû Mountains. These mountains, which are considered sacred ground, are home to large monasteries of the Laô people who are sworn to protect the road to and from Fêng Dû. The only people the Laô will let pass east through the Gates of Fêng Dû are the Tíanshí, and they are sworn to prevent anything from coming back through the gates into Sîshen. The people of Sîshen believe that it is blasphemous to walk in the Lûjing Fêng Dû Mountains if they are not either Tíanshí or Laô. The exception that is made to this, are the Kami, who are allowed to pass freely as they please. The Laô look like regular humans, but are gifted with the power of spiritual flight; about half of the Laô people are born blind. Tíanshí people have white feather wings and bronzed skin. The Lûjing Fêng Dû Mountains extend back to the north and hook westward until they fade into the Mirror Gate. The Mirror Gate is entrance to the Mirror Sands desert. While technically open to the rest of the world, the Mirror Sands Desert is hot enough to turn the sand to polished glass, which then reflects the heat and makes the desert even hotter. While there is the occasional Kami that can traverse this desert, they are typically of a malevolent variety, and the Baô and Laôhû clans are charged with protecting the rest of Sîshen from these malevolent creatures. Between the Mirror Gate and the Mountains of Dálông are the Shêngdâ Hû Mountains. Occupied by the Tiger Clans of Laôhû, these mountains are used by the Laôhû to train their military into a well-honed fighting machine. Typically it is the benevolence and military might of the Laôhû that stands between the Lông clans rising to enslave the rest of Sîshen. The Laôhû are large muscular people with minor tiger features, such as claws, fangs, and a bit of facial fur. Separating the Shêngdâ Hû Mountains and the Mountains of Dálông, is the wide, but very shallow Qìhongjî river. This river feeds into the Grand Qìhongjî Lake occupying most of the center of Sîshen. This lake and the river are the territory of the intelligent Qìhongjî people. The Qìhongjî have built a large stilted metropolis in the center of the Grand Lake, and have an open door policy with the other Sîshen people. Oftentimes, the Qìhongjî people act as mediators in disputes involving the lower clans. The Qìhongjî people are the only people of the lower clans gifted with wings. These wings do not function for actual flight, but allow a Qìhongjî to glide safely over long distances. Aside from the wings that fold into their arms, the other obvious feature that is possessed by the Qìhongjî is that the hair on their head is actually a soft down-like feather. The waters of the Qìhongjî river are too shallow for anything bigger than small fishing boats to float on it. Just north of the Grand Lake, and stretching all the way to the Mirror Gate and the Lûjing Fêng Dû Mountains are the Jíao Prairies. These rice and wheat fields are the ancestral home of the Baô Clans. A nomadic people who have slight features that resemble leopards, such as spotted facial and chest fur, the Baô have an unmatched ability to run as fast as any horse. The fields of the prairies are often farmed by the Baô.
The Môguí Jungles are at the base of the Lûjing Fêng Dû Mountains, and are filled with Kami and the dangerous Clan of people known as Oni. Rarely do any of the Sîshen people journey into the Môguí Jungles after dark, for fear of losing their lives in terrifyingly gory manners. Oni are a large people with Horns and wickedly sharp claws. Their taste for blood only extends to intelligent creatures, as such, they only eat Kami or the People of Sîshen. Oni are incapable of banding together long enough to be a major threat to the rest of Sîshen. The Hoûzí clans are frequently looked down upon as mischievous urchins. While this stereotype tends to be accurate, rarely do the other lower clans recognize that the Hoûzí live primarily in the Môguí Jungles and keep the Oni from organizing a force to overthrow Sîshen. The Hoûzí people has minor resemblances to Monkeys. Some have tails, some don’t, but all of these people are skilled at brachiating. Low Clans of Sîshen
These clans are designed after Asian legends of anthropomorphized creatures. Each of them has a corresponding Kung Fu fighting style from the Shaolin styles. I did not intend them to be animals that walk on two legs, but more to resemble the people in the legend of the Sun Wukong (The Monkey King) Lông – Dragon, Nobles, High Strung
High Clans of Sîshen
The world outside of Sîshen:
Across an expanse of ruin scattered plains east of Sîshen is a land known to the people of Sîshen as Fêng Dû, or the “Land of Heaven”, and it is forbidden to anyone who is not a Tíanshí. A month’s journey by horseback brings a traveler to the Grand City of YomÎ, where the immortal Tíanshí have made their home. This city has a port that is capable of journeying to the rest of the world. While the Tíanshí do not like to travel outside of their city, they do trade with the other peoples of the world. The rest of the world is about to hit its industrial revolution, the first airships will likely built in the next twenty years, and Humans are the majority by a massive lead. The fact of the matter is, that the only other races that live in the world, that aren’t Sîshen, are the Dwarves and the Gnomes, but these two people have forgotten their stone rots, and readily interbreed with Humans. All of the mythical creatures that aren’t in Sîshen have been hunted to extinction for the last six-hundred years, and the Kami in Sîshen people are the only ones who still know how to manipulate magic.
