PRE-SERVICE HISTORY: Born to a poor Romanian family on July 17th, 1983, Gavril's family immigrated to France by the time he was a teenager, although lack of precise records makes it difficult to ascertain exactly when they entered the country. Obviously this also indicates the Vasilescu family's status as non-citizens, and suggests why Gavril joined with the French Foreign Legion as soon as he was able to do so. Before his service, Gavril was one of many young men in the fringe of French society, although documents suggest he was an exemplary citizen, hardworking and intelligent. According to Gavril himself, his youth instilled in him values of loyalty, self-discipline, and compassion.
SERVICE RECORD: Gavril joined the Legion on his eighteenth birthday, signing up for active duty to serve the nation, fight alongside other young men of varying backgrounds, and eventually gain full legal citizenship. A naturally large and muscular young man, Gavril became a natural fit for a role operating the squad's automatic weapon. Shortly after going through basic training and aptitude, of course, Gavril found himself putting his skills to the test in the newly begun War on Terror, joining the international task force in the Middle East. There, he showed a surprising knack for languages, quickly picking up the varying tongues and dialects of the region. Combined with his pleasant demeanor and skill with words, Gavril became a useful asset for his force, serving not only as a gunner but also as an interpreter and middle-man for civilian interactions.
As time went on, Gavril began to specialize more and engage in further training within the military. Thanks to the multicultural nature of the Foreign Legion, he was able to pick up bits and pieces of martial knowledge from his fellows. Gavril learned basic principles of several martial arts, from Krav Maga to savate, and began to flourish as a close-combat specialist, especially after taking an intense course in the use of a tactical tomahawk, as well as focuses in combat breaching.
Officially, Gavril was always a member of the Foreign Legion, and was merely on regular tours of duty throughout his time since the turn of the century. Beneath the surface, though, the fact remains that a small team of Legionnaires split off from their detachment on a special mission. This fireteam of a half-dozen soldiers operated independently in dangerous territory held by insurgent forces--primarily Daesh--for a period of nearly seven months, and during this period they cut a swath of fear and destruction through the enemy ranks, striking several key targets, both personnel and locales. Who exactly served on this team and what their precise objective and accomplishments are have been classified and hidden from the public sphere, but only three of them returned to France for debriefing.
Following this endeavor, lengthy hospitalization for suffered wounds, extensive psychological testing, and a full debriefing and classification, Gavril was cleared for active duty but not required to return to do so. The Romanian agreed to continue his service, but requested to join the French commitment to the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, voicing his preference to work in a setting where he'd be more directly helping people.
APTITUDE EVALUATION: Gavril Vasilescu possesses many skills and competencies which make him a useful soldier and peacekeeper, especially for operating as part of a smaller fireteam. His natural bulk allows him to easily carry and use heavier gear than the average soldier, and he has long experience with machine guns. He is also highly competent in close quarters combat, with knowledge of breaching procedures, shotgun marksmanship, and modern hand-to-hand combat. Vasilescu also possesses tangential skills from survivalism and tracking to stealth and scouting. Perhaps surprisingly, he also displays a remarkable propensity for language, and is fluent in over half a dozen tongues, including Arabic, English, Kurdish, Persian, Russian, and Turkish, with their various dialects. This, combined with his manner of speaking, gives Vasilescu an ability to not only speak but also empathize with locals.
CONCLUSION: Seeing as he has been cleared for active duty and possesses a number of useful skills and combat experience, Gavril Vasilescu comes RECOMMENDED for service with the United Nations Peacekeepers.
