Garyd followed in his parents' footsteps as soldiers. Living as a camp-follower was his childhood. Seeing Runeblades in camp during the campaigns he became fascinated with their skill and power. He learned to master runes with sheer determination and natural intelligence. Other Runeblades look down on him as a "dabbler." His runes come from Dwarves, Elves, and anyone or anywhere else he can find them. He feels practicality is best.
He usually has several girlfriends. Some who mind and others who don't. He tries to keep the former from the latter. When he's not on the job he's pretty easygoing and likes to have fun. He doesn't throw his money away but doesn't have a tight fist either.
He has seen sights far and wide. It took years for mother's letter to arrive. Father had died fighting in the wars against the giants. The family lands and titles have since passed to him. That is, if he can keep them.
He's come to Istivin and to get his lands before the so-called low nobility takes them and the family heritage. Too many nobles have been stabbed in the dark and she is afraid for her life and lively hood.
Recently returning from a broken two-year contract abroad, he had to forfeit nearly all of his pay to leave it. He is apprehensive as he returns home. The strange and disturbing letter he received from his mother, tucked into his breast pocket, occupies his mind. He went to see the world, going onto the ends of the world, finally returning home.
On his way home he has journeyed on with Aerflae Windwaker, an elvish merchant and adventurer who thinks that Istivin is a great place to set up shop for his wares. A competent and useful companion he has earned your trust more then once.
