"Yes, sounds very fair. Too good to be true, in fact. No matter; it's not as if we have much choice. What are the specifics? Where do we meet this unit? Do we give them your name, or simply mention a 'contact'?"

Garroth glowers at the kobold. Now the fool tells my name, as well. She may as well stay in the mines, because her fate will be far worse if we get out of here, Garroth thinks. He turns to d'Kundarak. "It would seem we work for you regardless. Either here or down below. Personally, I believe we will be dead in either case. But so be it. What would you have us tell this military unit?"
Male Human Monk 4
"You wish us to make contact with the Cyran military unit, and then we are paid and leave. That simple, eh? You must also take me for a fool. We make contact, tell them whatever it is you wish us to tell them, and come back here to collect our 'pay'. At that point, we will either be killed, or moved to the deeper areas where none return. Perhaps those are the same thing; I do not know. But I most certainly do not believe it is that easy."

He looks at d'Kundarak and the woman. "I am no friend of either these two. truth I am a Cyran patriot, and I fight for my country, wherever that may take me. Anything else is unimportant." Looking directly at the woman, he adds, "And so help me, if you try any more mind tricks on me, I will kill you where you stand." How far away from me is the woman?

When the guards come, Garroth flinches away, as if frightened and afraid of being beaten. He keeps his eyes down as he is led through the mines, stumbling once or twice and basically acting tired and weak. When d'Kundarak speaks, Garroth briefly looks up, appraising the man as best he can with a glance. He looks at him, after the other two speak, and pleads, "Please, sir! I know this girl not. Please don't strike me!"

Well, they're going to get sent down. Question is, do I join in and get sent down too, or stay up here? Garroth ponders as he watches the melee progress. Well, maybe I can stop it before it gets too bad ... Garroth lunges at Lethe, attempting to grapple and pin her before this gets much worse. grapple 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Lethe wrote: "So uh that would be a no to a plan then?" Lethe asks when she recieves no answer. I was waiting to see if we got a response from the other slaves. Garroth is trying to goad them a bit, to see if there's any potential for an uprising, or if they are all just 'sheep' now ...

Garroth tries his best to appear weak and broken, but will work enough to avoid a beating. He will try to appear as uncoordinated and out-of-shape as he can, trying all the while to get a good count on the guards in this area, and listen to hear if there are any miners interested in maybe getting out of here, or even getting a bit of payback ... perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

"No need to fake an injury. The hurt goes away, but bruises last a day or two." At that, Garroth steels himself, and then slams his fist into his own eye. A few more punches and a split lip later, he's a little wobbley, but the damage should subside. "Maybe we should wait til tomorrow midday to actually go ... my eye should blacken nicely by then." And then he plops to the ground to rest. Deal about half my hp in nonlethal damage to myself. I'm kind of assuming the bruises will still be there in the morning, when the damage should be healed.

"I just don't like the infiltration thing. Too many things can go wrong. It's very simple: if the target isn't in the mines, we look elsewhere. Sneaking around can't be much riskier than infiltrating a small town where everyone knows everyone else. But whatever; I just want to get moving. Too many days sitting still."
Male Human Monk 4
"I think I prefer Haedric's suggestion. Mine workers would be much easier to pull off than all of us as elves. Another suggestion: is there any way we could stage a distraction? An explosion on the outskirts of town might draw any guards out; or some of them any way. Then we sneak in."

Lethe wrote: "What is this plan then?" Lethe asks calming down somewhat knowing that they will be doing something about it. "That's what we need to figure out. My preference is that we send one or two of us, the ones most skilled at remaining unseen, up to the town to scout it out. Observe for a few hours, maybe even a day, then report back and determine the best way to approach."

"And yet, for some reason, they decided to destroy our pack animals, yet leave us mostly unharmed. You're probably right; I'd think if they were allied with the elves, they could have easily captured or killed us considering how many of us fell victim to their howls. But they still felt the need to cripple our ability to carry supplies. This makes me uneasy; it is very odd behavior. Unless they're trying to stop both sides from fighting?" Garroth thinks a moment. "Do they have the ability to speak? Or communicate in some manner? Perhaps we should just talk to them, if we can."
Male Human Monk 4
Garroth grimly surveys the wreckage. As lethe takes off, a thought occurs to kim. "Hold, Lethe. Wait a moment." Turning to Synatria, he asks, "You mentioned before that the howlers are intelligent. Are they smart enough to form deals or work arrangements? They likely still follow us; is there a chance they work for the Valenar? Could we just be leading them to more of the resistance?"
Male Human Monk 4
"We'll need to determine what supplies are absolutely necessary, and pack those first. Each of us should carry as much as possible, without weighing ourselves down so much we can't make the rebel camp by tomorrow. Whatever space is left on the two horses, and us, can be filled with the 'nice-to-haves.' The rest, we leave." Garroth begins sorting through the packed gear, trying to determine what is most important.

Finally no longer stunned, Garroth exclaims, "Jax, why are you attacking Synatria's allies?!!" as he takes off after the nearest sandhowler ... If I can reach one of the creatures, I'll attack, of course. unarmed strike 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 wow, I'm completely useless this fight

Keeper of Forbidden Lore wrote: Sorry I had overlooked that, I will allow him one attack in the surprise round before he gets stunned, but if he acts he will been seen Garroth isn't concerned about that; once he sees them preparing to attack, he rushes in. And you still have Garroth listed at 25 hp; I think I should at least be in the 30's, right? His kukri drawn, Garroth rushes to attack the nearest creature before it attacks ... kukri 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 damage 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 EDIT: #$@%$#!!!!

Spoiler: If there is any kind of light around (like a full moon or two; I think one was and another was partial, right?), Garroth will carefully take out his mirror. He'll wait until the pack is all facing away, then try to reflect some light in the direction of the camp. He'll only do this once or twice, at most, to avoid tipping off the wolf-things. Then, he'll pull out his kukri, and wait to see what happens, trying to creep forward a bit.

Garroth isn't far enough away that he couldn't hear the talk; of course, in the night, the others' talking does carry a bit. He'll keep his post, preferably hidden, and hope to be able to at least give a heads up to the rest if anything comes by. He supposes trying a magical way out of fighting would be preferable, so he'll hold his fire to give Synatria the chance to try it her way, first. That was a hard one to figure out, he thought, and I'm not quite sure what it is she has against me.
Male Human Monk 4
Garroth will back-track a bit, taking first watch, but will try and find somewhere to hide away from camp. He will try and keep an eye out for the whatever those things were. Take 10 on Perception = 20
