APPEARANCE & PERSONALITY

Spoiler:
Height: 6' Weight: 198
Hair: light brown (kept very short, almost shaved bald)
Eyes: Hazel

Looking at Garroth, you wouldn't think he was Cyran, and you'd be half right. While as tall as most others, Garroth is far broader and stockier than is typical. His hair, a very light shade of brown, and his tanned skin betray a heritage that is less than 100% Cyran. As someone dedicated to ultimate physical and spritual perfection, Garroth dresses very simply and functionally. His uniform is always clean and kept repaired, and the rare occasions when he is out of it find him wearing very simple and plain breeches with a gray tunic. Unlike many Cyrans, Garroth dislikes jewelry and other displays of wealth.

Garroth always keeps himself well-groomed, shaving both his head and face daily, unless otherwise prevented. However, both seem to regrow quite quickly, so he usually sports a 5 o'clock shadow by noon.

Garroth is a patriot of Cyre to his core; he despises the other nations for starting a war that he considers to be nothing but a rebellion against the true crown of Galifar. He sees how his country has taken the brunt of the suffering, as well. Because of that, and especially because of what happened to his family (see below), he can be a bit ruthless when fighting, although he never loses complete control (owing to his monk training). He views those fighting against Cyre as his mortal enemies, and rarely gives quarter.

BACKGROUND

Spoiler:
Garroth Ur’Than’s mother, Tresia Ur’Than, was still a teenager when he was born. She lived with her parents and two brothers in a small village in the northern region of Cyre. Fortunately for the town, it was far enough to the south that it had escaped much of the war’s direct fighting, but that wouldn’t last forever. In 985, the fighting finally reached them in the form of a small, but brutal squad of mercenaries in the employ of Breland. Much of the village was raised, and over a third of the people killed. Just as bad, the mercenaries took whatever they wanted from the survivors. Tresia lost one of her brothers, but the remainder of the family survived to welcome the Cyran forces who liberated their town two years later. By that time, Garroth had already been born.

For most of his young life, Garroth was raised by his grandparents as their own. He was told that Tresia was his sister, though she often doted on him in a motherly way. The fortunate thing for Garroth was that both his family and the town were good people; though he always felt he was different in some way, he was never overtly ostracized. Being religious folk, his grandparents looked at him as a gift from the gods to replace the son they had lost. He was loved by his grandparents and mother despite the violence of how he was brought into the world.

He was only 14 when the war came back. This time, Brelish raiders swept into the town under cover of darkness, stealing food, livestock, and goods and setting fire to the rest of the village. And this time, his family wouldn’t be as lucky. Both of his grandparents, as well as his uncle, perished as their home burned to the ground. Garroth managed to drag his mother out, but she had been mortally hurt. As she lay dying, she told him the truth about his past, that she was, in fact, his mother and not his sister as he had thought.

Garroth believes that he is the only survivor from that night. He hid in the nearby woods for several days before hunger and thirst forced him to move. He eventually was found by a contingent of Cyran troops, and taken by one to a larger city to the south. Eventually, he was taken in by a small monastic order who taught him to control his hate and perfect his body and mind. When he was old enough, Garroth joined the military; his excellent discipline and deadly martial skills made him a natural for the Black Caps. Having lost his faith in gods, Garroth lives only to see his nation rightfully back to its past glory, and for revenge against those who destroyed his family.
