AoO (Garret, Lance (2H), Sword Challenge): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 = 11
Garret orders Cuan to attack, then takes a step back and attacks once more with his lance. Free action (Garret): Handle Cuan
Standard action (Cuan): Attack minotaur
Not an action (Cuan): 5' step as indicated

Garret wheels Cuan around and makes another charge. Unfortunately, he is distracted by the sight of, now, two other halflings struck down by the beast, and his blow flies wide. Attack (Lance (2H), Sword Challenge, Charge): 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 9
It's worth mentioning, I think, that Garret is using Ride-By Attack, which prevents AoO's from his target...

Might I suggest an archaeologist bard? Bard spells, rogue talents, bonuses to perception and disable device, and a swift-action self-buff ability. I've pretty much decided that I like the flavor of an Elf Oracle (Ancient Lorekeeper) of Time. With wizard bonus spells and some nifty revelations, it seems like fun, and a good fit for the AP.

Garret, seeing Janira fall, roars a challenge at the minotaur and spurs Cuan on, leaping the river and charging the beast. Ride (Leap (DC 15), Military Saddle, Halfling Luck (after roll): 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 15
If a charge is allowed, he'll use ride-by attack to move to a safe-ish distance. Attack (Lance (2H), Sword Challenge, Charge, Halfling Luck (before roll): 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 16

Ah, so it seems that running in campaign mode means that the character doesn't need to be PFS legal (and, in fact, shouldn't be a registered PFS character), but you can apply credit to a PFS character. That's not a bad deal. I'm currently thinking of a divine caster (because there seems to be a shortage of them thus far). Perhaps: - a Samsaran Oracle (Reincarnated Oracle Archetype, Time (or Ancestor) Mystery). Good RP possibilities, seems like it would fit in the campaign pretty well, but it's not a core race, and might not be terribly powerful. - a Dwarven Warpriest (probably of Torag). Again, not bad as far as RP, more of a martial character. - a Lame Half-Orc Oracle (Metal Mystery), eventually moving into Rage Prophet. Again, not bad as far as RP goes, also a martial character. Any insider information on which of those might have a better chance of getting in? All of them are interesting to me, so I'm having trouble deciding.

Garret orders Cuan to attack again, then maneuvers him to allow another thrust with his lance. Free action: Order Cuan to attack (Not sure if I have to roll this every round, or just once, and only again once the target is dead or to switch targets, or...?)
Standard action (Cuan): Attack kobold
Not an action (Cuan): 5' step, as indicated on map
Critical Confirm (Garret, Lance (2H), Flanking): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 = 18

I guess I was reading the Acrobatics as a racial bonus based only on the base move (which is the wording that's used, not the encumbered movement), and the ACP of the armor would reduce the actual amount jumped. Anyway, doesn't really matter at this point. As the first kobold approaches Garret, he attempts to pierce it with his lance. AoO (Garret, Lance (2H, reach), Adaptable Luck (after roll)): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 = 15
I'm assuming that the one to the north of Garret is the one that approached first, and the other circled around? Shame he doesn't have Combat Reflexes... Garret orders Cuan to attack the other kobold, then backs up and runs it through with his lance. Free action (Garret): Order Cuan to attack SE kobold
Standard action (Cuan): Attack kobold (SE)
Not an action (Cuan) 5' move as indicated on map Standard action (Garret): Attack kobold (SE)

Garret, hearing the cries of surprise and pain from Cha-Ka, spurs Cuan into action. He emerges from the tunnel and, seeing the kobolds, steers towards them and leaps the river in a single bound. Full-round action: Double move
EDIT - I hope I'm reading this right. In the skill description for Acrobatics (here), it says that creatures with base speeds over 30 get a racial bonus to jump checks for every 10 over. Cuan has a base speed of 50, which would equate to a +8, for a total of +10...regardless of what armor he's wearing?

Ride (Leap (DC 15), Take 10): 10 + 12 = 22
Garret, riding Cuan, leaps over the pit and lands on the other side. He scouts ahead a short way while the others deal with the pit, looking for anything out of the ordinary. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

Fort (Garret): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14
The wave of nausea passes, but the bites of the swarm do their work, nonetheless. Garret, realizing that he or Cuan will suffer more if he stays where he is, moves to separate himself from the rest of the group. Fort (Cuan): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Cuan begins to succumb to the bites of the swarm, and feels some of his strength drain away.

Fort (Garret, Adaptable Luck (after roll)): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
Garret feels the swarm crawling over him, stinging him, and, after a few seconds, can take no more - he doubles over, his stomach emptying itself onto the ground. Fort (Cuan): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Cuan looks on and snaps at the spiders ineffectually, but otherwise has no such reaction.

Garret holds, trusting to Janira's experience warning them to use fire, not their weapons. Seeing Cha-Ka pull out a torch, Garret pulls out his own flint and begins lighting it. Move action: Retrieve flint and steel

Garret will purchase a cold iron cestus and a flint and steel, for a total of 11 gp. Also, this is as good a time as any to mention it, but Garret will prefer to ride in front of the rest of the group, and will ask that you leave charge lanes open whenever possible (i.e., don't get between him and the baddies). If spaces are just too tight, or if there isn't 10' between him and the BBEG, then don't worry too much about it, but charging is the most effective way he has to do damage. As an added bonus, if he can charge through (with ride-by attack), then he'll be potentially be available for flanking bonuses.

Spellcasters need a full 8 hours' rest, right? Let's do five 2-hour shifts. Right now, it sounds like Cutter, Cha-Ka, Garret, Tenaka, Ganju (sorrry, Tenaka, but if Ganju has last shift, it means he can pray for spells during his shift). "I will take the middle shift of the night, and I believe that will get us through until morning."

Garret nods slowly at Janira's suggestion. Well, Miss Janira, I find that if you hit a skeleton hard enough, it doesn't much matter what you use... Still, he acquiesces. "I must purchase a flint and steel, and I suppose I should purchase another weapon, as well." Then he, too, grabs a few pieces of parchment on which to take notes. "As to my motivations, I am here to serve the Society, and to use its missions as a means to exercise the edicts of my order. I welcome the tests of arms and intuition, as well as the challenges inherent in the tasks themselves."

Garret walks into the room, his blue eyes sweeping the room. He has brown hair, and his breastplate gleams from polishing. His might have been a fairly imposing presence, if only he weren't a halfling. He gives a short whistle and his mount follows him in, a grey-and-white wolf; a fine beast by any standard. It wears barding made of plates similar to those worn by the halfling, and a military saddle strapped around its torso. "Ah, so it looks like I'm one of the later arrivals. My apologies." He moves to an open chair and sits. "My name is Garret, and this is my companion, Cuan." His wolf crouches down beside him and, almost instinctively, the halfling's hand moves to scratch the wolf between the ears. After sitting a few moments, Garret looks around to the door. "So, any sign of the Venture Captain?" |
