About Galen Beast-caller
Tal-ish(for a halfing) with a muscular build and angular features. His eyes set him apart, pupil-less green ever since his powers awoke, a sharp contrast to his dark brown hair and tanned skin. His shaggy brown hair is tied loosely back. A purple scar mars his left hand, a remnant from his brush with powerful planar magics.
Galen wears gray leather armor, cracked and worn, though he maintains it well enough, it is obvious he is not its first owner. The same can be said for his lance, dark stains marking where it has spent long hours in sweaty palms.
Galen has a healthy (or unhealthy) love of adventure and exploration, taking off to delve into trouble at the drop of a hat, egged on by Tarq. If not in trouble, he will soon find it, just to keep things interesting.
He makes friends quickly, but parts ways just as fast, a wanderer at heart. He is loyal to his companions, willing to take risks for their safety, but feels no obligation to them when the task is done. His only permanent companion is Tarq, a kindred spirit.
Galen's family lived in Sandpoint for most of his youth, his father a modestly successful merchant in the region who liked the out-of-the-way place to keep his family, far enough away from the Cheliax that his own parents had escaped.
Galen's strange connection to the outer planes came through in his teens, heralded by the change in his eyes and the random appearance of creatures out of thin air. This did little to endear him to the other children, though enhanced his pranks immeasurably. Not long after, Tarq appeared to him for the first time. He had to be kept secret, for obvious reasons, giving both bountiful opportunities to practice hiding.
After his mother was lost in the late troubles, they moved to Korvosa, where Galen was enrolled, largely against his wishes, in the infamous Acadamae there. Though he had little mind for the studies he learned a bit. Mostly that there are more wicked, back-stabbing mages in the world than he ever imagined.
His studies ended abruptly with a disagreement with a teacher over material components for a powerful summoning and binding ritual. Namely that Galen did not wish to become the component. A dagger, a shove, and a portal to beyond left him fleeing the city, Tarq's quick feet saving him.
He spent the next years wandering, bouncing from town to town and job to job until he found himself in Absolom, at the Great Lodge of the Pathfinders. Sounds like fun.
