King in Thorns slideshow!

Welcome!
I will see how I handle that, and what forms or whatever to fill out (I'm still preparing all the slides and such).

King in Thorns slideshow!

Maybe the cool duo-avatars will attract people!

King in Thorns slideshow!

Hello and welcome to this corner of Gameday X.
We will be taking part in the multi-table special King in Thorns.
This is a Tier 7-8 table.

Recruitment is on the Gameday page, "PFS2E Special" tab, bottom row.

King in Thorns slideshow!

You are in the northwestern part of the Mwangi Jungle, in the heart of the Mwangi Expanse...

King in Thorns slideshow!

I imagine Giggett has the proper writing material to create a forgery, or can obtain it (writing set at least).
Create forgery is a Secret roll-- thus the GM must roll, and, sadly (for it is a great idea!), did not have Giggett reach the needed 20.

Giggett's lack of time, or not knowing Tian, or whatever it is, has the forgery not coming out as she wished it would.
Well, after all, the idea was exciting, but then it is rather boring to actually change all these words in a big book-- and boring is not what she is after.

So, be it the canny eye of the Dwarven farmer used to checking his sales bills, or the fact that some racial trait linked to digging has the new Asmodeans wanting to go check what is beneath and below-- the forgery ends up being spotted by one of the farmer's sons!

What happens next is for another story-- but they now think Giggett is some enemy sent to persecute the gentle and good Asmodeus!

King in Thorns slideshow!

Sorry for answering this quite late.
I had closed the thread, so I do not see updates, and am not on the Paizo forums these days anyhow.
So will not be coming back to post in this ended game.
Be safe all!

King in Thorns slideshow!

The Dwarves smile at Giggett:
"Of course the town was wiped out. The people did not follow Asmodeus as well as they should. So, yes, the place was cleaned up so we can rebuild from scratch, following the edicts of Tamerius the great!"

King in Thorns slideshow!

The DM was buried in a field in the countryside.

Sitril says: "Ren, her name is Ren."

As for the Dwarves, they are busy carving a life-size statue of Tamerius-- as they remember him, tall and beautiful, raising one hand to the heavens and the other to the ground.
"We were planning to bury him inside the church. In front of the altar. He saved Etran's Folly all by himself. He must be remembered."

King in Thorns slideshow!

No, it should not.

King in Thorns slideshow!

It is a gas, made by crushing the green rocks and transforming them.

King in Thorns slideshow!

@Nat - as we were left aside
I imagine that was because the games planned are on VTT and in French.

Thanks for the kind words!

I'll see how Alien goes for now...

King in Thorns slideshow!

Okay!

And Ilmakis, is your Chronicle all good?

King in Thorns slideshow!

Tamerius looks around, but sees no Dwarves arriving from Plaguestone.
Maybe they were sturdier, or else because their farm was out of town-- the new Priest of Asmodeus seems to not have died with the Plague.
The new church will go on...

King in Thorns slideshow!

Tell me when you get your Chronicles and if all okay.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Pari is at peace too.

King in Thorns slideshow!

"Well, I worship you, and I am sure he will too!"

King in Thorns slideshow!

Pari, while training on how to hold the sword, looks up:
"Will my brother be there?"

King in Thorns slideshow!

Suddenly, Pari smiles:
"Thumb forward!"

King in Thorns slideshow!

that ending kind of affected my mental health
Oh... sorry (((
I am playing and GMing AlienRPG these-- maybe that got me into a bleaker mood?!

King in Thorns slideshow!

Pari appears beside Natsume, the shadow of a training sword in one hand, as she grips the furry Kitsune paw with her other hand:
"Can I come with you?"

King in Thorns slideshow!

So, besides the horses you did not have (and there were other choices to accelerate a bit-- w/o pauses you arrive Fatigued, but the Drudge is 60 feet away I think ; and maybe you get a bit more if you had tracked it) you actually did not know what was going to happen (which is intended for the PCs to know).

bit of a downer ending tho innit
I hope not too much for you...

I felt the end was super tight!
With Tamerius dying on the very last roll.

And the Drudge being battered but it could have gone done very easily, so it was really a very close ending!

(and I found out that PF2 has no repositioning rules! I wondered why Giggett could not Grab and "drag"/Reposition-- well, that no longer exists!).

Hey, it was a spectacular ending-- with no mechanical repercussions to your Chronicle Sheets.
And, as Natsume said, it is the Fall...

King in Thorns slideshow!

Okay--
--so, as I said, one thing (which I find cool, since it seems unimportant, is super early on, but has repercussions at the end) was the horses:
If the PCs do not help with this, the horses become sick and the PCs cannot borrow them when exploring the countryside later in the adventure.
Then, at the end:
Finally, if the PCs raced back to town on horses, they arrive 2 hours before the drudge, but they must stay alert because they don’t know when to expect the drudge to arrive. They do, however, have the chance to put up barriers or set an ambush, at your discretion. At the very least, they start at the stone and the drudge is 120 feet away, giving them ample time to stop it.

All that is mitigated by the fact that the big thing you skipped was looking through the Experimental Laboratory (the place with the vats and the elemental rat).

So, some information in hindsight (just giving the important parts)--

This is Vilree’s personal laboratory, where she researched all of her dreadful mutagens. It’s here that she stumbled upon the formula
for the viridian vapor, and where she created all the alchemical servants that live in her fortress. There is a lot here the PCs might uncover.

Vilree's formula book is open on the central table next to the bubbling concoction. The alchemy tools here are all tainted with an oily green residue. By consulting the formula book and inspecting the available ingredients, a PC can attempt a DC 22 Crafting check to identify this residue as a side effect of the viridian vapor. The book describes an absolutely lethal disease contracted by inhaling the vapor. The disease causes a horrific fungus to grow in the lungs, leading to death. The books do not describe a cure.
Clever PCs might compare the ingredients and reagents that Bort supplied with the formulas in the book. One thing becomes abundantly clear: Vilree had enough ingredients to create 500 batches of viridian vapor. Worse, none of those ingredients can be found here in the laboratory in any quantity, although there are a number of empty containers.
A parchment tucked inside the formula book bears a simple diagram of a round, flat-topped rock with a depression on top. The diagram depicts a procedure for using acid to create a reservoir inside the stone. There is only one note on the illustration, reading “Mother’s ring will be the key.” The PCs may not realize it at first, but this diagram depicts the plaguestone in the center of Etran’s Folly. Over the past few months, Vilree has hollowed out the stone and secretly filled it with viridian vapor. Her plan is to destroy the stone using her mother’s ring, which she has had enchanted to explosively shatter the stone when it comes into contact with the ring.

The tall glass cylinder at the west end of the room contains the remains of a dwarf, Vilree’s most recent test subject. To ensure the viridian vapor was suitably lethal, she had her orcs venture deep into the mountains and capture the first humanoid they encountered. The unfortunate dwarf was on his way home from visiting relatives when the orcs set upon him. He died in this chamber a few days later, and his skin split open as the fungus inside him consumed his flesh. Worse still, the vapor is still swirling around his body and his rotting flesh can now transmit the disease. A successful DC 20 Medicine check by a PC who has read Vilree’s formula book confirms that these are effects of the viridian vapor.

Then, re. the green rock you saw in the cave-parts--

These caves are the reason Vilree moved her laboratory here. As the PCs get closer to the cave walls, the character with the highest Perception notices veins of green in the rock (I think that was Sitril?). This ore is a key ingredient in the creation of the viridian vapor, and part of the reason it is so deadly. When ground up, the green rock deals serious damage to the lungs, allowing an infection to take hold and grow. If the characters have studied Vilree’s formula book, they know this green rock is called flaystone.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Vilree stands there, smiling as she sees the people from Plaguestone arriving.

To Natsume, she shrugs:
"To avenge my mother, it might be worth listening to you-- but I think we shall be sent to different areas."

King in Thorns slideshow!

-->Chronicles<-- are here, and should be downloadable by all.

The game is correctly reported (I mean, I got all the correct names for the 3 who gave, and Natsume should just get the credit to her 2002 when/if she creates one).

Thanks Florent & Nicolas for your kind words!
Though if I'm SuperBidi's only PbP GM, I might be your worst too )))

It was great fun with you four )))

I will see about running something else in the future.
Edgewatch might be fun.
There is the dungeon crawl coming out in January.
We shall see...

King in Thorns slideshow!

So level 1 for Natsume's 2002, correct?

King in Thorns slideshow!

Giggett gets Warrior's Training Ring.
This ring is utilitarian in design—indicating its martial use. Its band is decorated only with a simple, sharp-edged sculpture on the band’s center. While wearing this ring, you add your level to your attack rolls with all weapons with which you are untrained.
Activate [free-action] (envision); Frequency once per day; Trigger You make an attack with a weapon in which you’re untrained; Effect You gain a +2 circumstance bonus to the attack roll. If you are an expert in any weapon, you instead gain a +4 circumstance bonus to the attack roll.

Then Cooky gives Sitril a Ring of Minor Arcana.
This rose-gold ring is adorned in the center by a somewhat ominous-looking horned skull. This ring gives you the power to cast the following innate arcane cantrips any number of times each day: detect magic, mage hand, and prestidigitation. Each is cast as a 1st-level spell.
If you are an arcane spellcaster, these can instead be heightened to the level of your cantrips.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Oh-- and the two survivors end up w. 3205 XP
(getting 80xp for facing the vapor ; but missing out on the 80 XP story award for saving the town and completing the adventure)
So, after helping pulling out the dead and/or cleaning up the town a bit, digging graves-- or simply getting the heck out of the dead village: you can level up!

King in Thorns slideshow!

Giggett, Natsume and Tamerius-- tell me what characters (their current level right now ; and PFS number) you want game credit to go to.

I will make the Chronicles and report the game.

Tell me if you have any questions?

King in Thorns slideshow!

Sadly, Sitril knows he had to come back, to retrieve his cousin's body.

So endeth the Fall of Plaguestone.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Cooky takes Giggett and Sitril aside:
"My name is Talair Starlight. Only Bort knew that. And Bort would have wanted you to have one of these."

Cooky opens a small pouch, and drops a half a dozen rings into his hand:
"These are his magical rings. Please choose one, each of you. To have and remember him by.
Too bad I cannot tell as well as he the incredible adventures that came with obtaining each one of them!"

Which ring do you wish to pick?

King in Thorns slideshow!

I guess it is over now...

Only Giggett and Sitril remain, the Gnome being the only one of the original group that met Bort the Merchant.

Strangely, the Gnome has very vivid colors and a strong hue to her skin.
Albeit horrid, the experience of witnessing this mass death toll is so strong it staves off the Bleaching--

--for now.
Because Giggett will see that this was actually the tipping point.
Never again will she encounter new experiences that can top the intensity of the Fall of Plaguestone and the holocaust Vilree brought to her mother's killers.
From then on the Bleaching slowly drained her color away, and, without being able to reverse this anymore, finding nothing as intense as what she felt this day, her future led to deeper and deeper states of depression... that eventually claimed her life.

As for Sitril-- well, he found out what happened to his cousin.
And, somehow, he avenged the merchant's death-- but was unable to stop the general slaughter Bort would have wished avoided.
Only Cooky, and one of the twins remain, all the others succumbed to the Plague.
At least Sitril was able to bury Bort in a grave of his own, and not in the mass grave that was dug out for the villagers.

In the end, some 85% of the population perished.
A bit under four dozen surviving the 300+ inhabitants.

Of course, the mayor survived, and was heard muttering about all this happening because people turned to turnip fields.
"That damn turnip-plague! Killed all my family!"

King in Thorns slideshow!

Sitril rushes up to the carts, and fishes out the antiplague elixirs, racing back to Natsume first, to help her out--

--then trying to get to Tamli in time, or others.

The valiant Dwarf manages to have them drink this tonic.

But it seems it does nothing to help.

Just as the victims of the plague are unable to retch and alleviate their condition.
In the same manner that even Natsume's Godly healing did not render her health bath.
Or like the mundane healing performed by people rushing out into the square, namely Cooky-- or even trained medic Giggeet, if she tries to profit from Tamerius' healing kit-- none of this does anything.

Yes, it seems that once affected by Vilree's green vapor, you cannot reduce your sickened condition or heal.

You do see some people stumble around, and get better.
But not that many.
It is a harsh illness, and the fact it makes one more and more sickened renders shaking it off very hard.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Yes, Vilree must be in the same batch of arrivals!

At least Pari has a familiar hand to hold, now that Natsume has arrived.

King in Thorns slideshow!

In the Boneyard, as more people from the village arrive, Tamerius sees, behind Tamli-- his adventuring comrade, Natsume.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Toughness-- no.
Nor does your Hero Point work.
Since you never got the dying condition.
Stage 3 is "dead".

Natsume is off to earn another tail?

King in Thorns slideshow!

She falls to her knees. She doesn’t see anything anymore; everything has gone black, inside and out, and that black is blurred with her tears.

I didn’t save... anyone... I couldn’t help... anyone...

The tears are actually blood, pouring now from her foxy ears, matting her fur, trickling from her eyes--
I cannot even help myself...
--as Natsume dies.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Natsume spends the entire next round coughing, hacking, trying to force it from her lungs...
...but this does nothing.
Y’know that thing where you can spend an action to retry Fort saves vs sickness? That.
Not sure what that is? (action to remove Sickened condition?)
As I wrote a couple times, when you try to remove your Sickened condition, you cannot:

Quote:

--and though she tries retching and coughing, anything she evacuates is immediately replaced by more green phlegm!

You cannot reduce this Sickened condition

Fort: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 9 - 2 = 10

Not lookin’ good though. No-- Natsume moves to Stage 3
Fort: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 - 2 = 15
Fort: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 2 = 20
Fort: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 9 - 2 = 18

King in Thorns slideshow!

Natsume feels the disease getting stronger--
2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
9 damage ; back up to Sickened 2
--as her lungs burn up even more, and blood trickles out of her mouth, and onto the face of dead Pari, in her arms.
Natsume: DC 23 Fortitude check (w. -2 from Sickened)

Over there, Tamli has stopped moving too. Lying face down outside the inn.

Giggett has delusions of being a Goddess and choosing who to help, but knows she is simply totally useless and can do nothing.
She will not die now, just return to wasting away with the Bleaching.

All around you hear coughing and moaning and death rattles-- as the whole population seems to be dying off.

Giggett - 21 damage
Sitril - 12 damage
• Natsume - 35 damage ; Sickened 2 ; DC 23 Fortitude check (w. -2 from Sickened)

King in Thorns slideshow!

Does Giggett try to help someone with the kit?

Natsume --DC 23 Fortitude check (w. -1 from Sickened)

Giggett - 21 damage
Sitril - 12 damage
• Natsume - 26 damage ; Sickened 1 ; DC 23 Fortitude check (w. -1 from Sickened)

King in Thorns slideshow!

As Giggett's eyes pass over the people in pain and bleeding, who--

--who does she choose to help?
Which one will this powerful goddess extend the gift of life to?!

King in Thorns slideshow!

As she looks around, in a daze, Giggett sees she has Tamerius' healing kit on her belt!

King in Thorns slideshow!

Giggett sees that there was one big cloud--

--glancing at the remnants of the Plaguestone, she sees that it was totally hollowed out - probably months of work - and must have been filled with the gas.

You feel that you managed to reject contamination, and unless there is some other gas cloud released, you will not be affected by this one at least, even if you breathe more in.

But you do start to see people stumbling out of houses, their napkins around their necks, eating ustensiles in hand-- and dropping dead.

You feel the commoners in town, less sturdy than you lot, will probably not resist.
The lower Fort' saves!

King in Thorns slideshow!

Natsume's hand glows and the glow moves over to Pari who feels--

--NOTHING!

What? How?

Natsume feels her Goddess did impart her the healing she wished for--
--but, just like Natsume cannot shake the sickened feeling, the healing does nothing to make Pari better!
Could Vilree's plague deal damage that is incurable?!

Pari looks at the light in Natsume's hand--
--as the light goes out of her own eyes.

As the young girl dies in Natsume's arms-- the Kitsune Champion manages to shake off some of Vilree's potent plague.
Success!
1d6 ⇒ 4
4 damage ; and down to Sickened 1
But her lungs are still burning, and she still feels ill.

Tamli is stumbling around the entrance to the inn, looking weaker...
Pari came from the other side.

Sitril and Giggett-- you can of course act, and I will add what you do to the outcomes.

Giggett - 21 damage
Sitril - 12 damage
Natsume - 26 damage ; Sickened 1 ; DC 23 Fortitude check (w. -1 from Sickened)

King in Thorns slideshow!

Natsume, coughing, rushes over to Pari, and grabs her in her arms--

--as Pari holds out a feeble hand:
"Here, here, I bring the money for my next lesson!"
Some silver coins fall from her failing fingers...

Natsume finds no Diving Grace--
This is not a spell
--and she is feeble and sickened--
So your save is 12+9-1=20 ; a failure
--and the coughing gets worse, as her lungs burn like hell-fire!
2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7
Natsume takes 7 damage and moves to sickened 2 (and still cannot get rid of the sickened condition)

Natsume may act-- multiple rounds ; as may the others

People start exiting the Feedmill, gurgling blood, and dropping dead--

--Tamli stumbles out from around the corner, stretching her arms out, blood dripping from her eyes and ears.

Giggett - 21 damage
Sitril - 12 damage
• Natsume - 22 damage ; Sickened 2 ; DC 23 Fortitude check (w. -2 from Sickened)

King in Thorns slideshow!

As Natsume said-- it will be the Fall of Plaguestone!

As Vilree walks to the Boneyard with Tamerius, she will be delighted to see the villagers appear behind her, in the realm of Pharasma.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Nice high rolls again, that come at a selfish good time-- but too late for the villagers!

Sitril just lets the rock bounce off his armor-- he's been in worse rockslides!
As for the green gas-- have you ever seen a Dwarven latrine? He just shrugs it off.

As Sitril calls out about evacuating people--

--you see young Pari, with her training sword in hand, appear at the edge of the square.
She seems blinded, and flailing about with her wooden sword, as if trying to fend off an invisible enemy!
"Sword-master! Sword-master! Help me! HELP ME! I don't want to die like my brother!"

As you all turn to her--

--Natsume feels a burning sensation, and has a little trouble breathing--
Sickened 1 (so -1 to your Saves also)
--and though she tries retching and coughing, anything she evacuates is immediately replaced by more green phlegm!
You cannot reduce this Sickened condition

It is as though her lungs are burning up!
1d6 ⇒ 3
3 damage
It hurts-- and it gets worse as she bends over, coughing like crazy!
DC 23 Fortitude (w. -1 from Sickened)

Giggett - 21 damage
Sitril - 12 damage
Natsume - 15 damage ; Sickened 1 ; DC 23 Fortitude (w. -1 from Sickened)

King in Thorns slideshow!

The music now moves to the melodramatic string quartet.

One?
None?
Who knows who will die-- soon comes the answer!

King in Thorns slideshow!

Giggett was off balance, standing on the stone itself, and thus is propelled up into the air, surrounded by flying stone and gas--
--but her Gnome-magick finally kicks in, preventing some damage--
21 damage
--but, more importantly, the shift means she phases out of the cloud, just a little bit, but every little bit can help!
+2 circumstance bonus to saving throws against that effect
--even if the sunlight burns her eyes!
dazzled for 1 round

Giggett has the air blown out of her lungs by the blast, and by the time she can take a breath, the cloud has moved on a bit... she manages to avoid inhaling.
Now you roll a 20! Successful save (no crits')
Well, now, that should push the Bleaching back a little? Maybe dye her hair glowing green?

Natsume tries to call upon her Deity, but, no time and the gas burns her trachea as she feels it entering her lungs.
Failed save

• Giggett - dazzled ; 21 damage ; resisted the gas
• Natsume - 12 damage ; did not resist the gas
• Sitril:
- DC 22 basic Reflex save vs. 24 Slashing Damage
- DC 23 Fortitude save vs. Disease

King in Thorns slideshow!

As the glowing green cloud billows out around you, it stings, and burns your eyes, and you cough as you try not to breathe it in-- but there is too much to prevent from inhaling it!
DC 23 Fortitude save vs. Disease

• Giggett:
- DC 22 basic Reflex save vs. 24 Slashing Damage
- DC 23 Fortitude save vs. Disease
• Sitril:
