Ok - I sent a PM to everyone who wanted a chronicle sheet with a link to it on my Google Docs. I also e-mailed Beckett and Filios with copies. Go ahead and fill out your starting & total gold and list any items on the list you want to buy. GP Gained: 479 Items Found During This Scenario
If you continue to play these characters in PFS, keep in mind these items are always available for purchase!
In the chest, Beckett finds various treasures and coins along with the three items he sensed with his detect magic spell: two potions and a wand. Balenar just shrugs at Beckett's remark before smiling at the others. "Excellent! It's the least I can do to repay you for saving my life. With Tasskar slain, I'd suggest we get out of here... head back to Absalom before it gets dark."
Noran Kekmore wrote: Is the castle essentially cleared or is it worth the time to go back and open doors we missed? Nah - you got everything on the chronicle sheet. You only missed a couple things but nothing that affects the end result. You found all the items on the sheet and the gold reward is a set total. I should be able to report it without Noran's character ID. I'll fill out the chronicle sheets tonight!
As Noran tends to Jareth, Beckett can sense magic in the cloak Tasskar wore as well as three auras in the chest near the throne. Balenar steps up to Jareth's unconscious body and pulls out a scroll. "Here... I think your half-orc friend can use this more than I can. No more heroics from me, that's for sure." He reads from the scroll and completes the spell (cure moderate wounds 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) + 3 = 10), and Jareth regains concsiousness as most of his wounds close. As he helps Jareth stand, the bard addresses all of you, "I owe all of you thanks for saving me and for slaying this monster," he toes the corpse of the troglodyte. "As I said before, I'm a member of the Pathfinder Society. We're always looking for new recruits, and I believe folks of your skill would be most welcome. Normally we require applicants to go through a long and tedious training phase, but I believe I can convince the higher-ups to fast track you to full Pathfinders. If you accept, that is."
flame blade vs. Quartes's touch AC 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16; Fire damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 As Quartes steps away from Tasskar, the troglodyte takes the opportunity to swing his blade at the magus one last time, snarling in Draconic as the blade sears through Quartes's flesh. Draconic:
"Hahahaha... I die for my god, but I will take you down with me!" However, as he sees Quartes still standing after the devastating blow, his face contorts into an expression of furious shock before he falls to the ground, dying. ...... It is finished.
Round 6, Init 6 (3) Tasskar swings his fiery blade at Quartes as his crocodile turns to Balenar. flame blade vs. Quartes's touch AC 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
They both miss completely. Well... at least the dice roller hates them too. But this is just crazy. Round 7 Initiative... Please kill them.... please......

Round 6, Init 6(1) & 6(2) - GMPC for Beckett & Jareth Going to assume Beckett wasn't serious about grappling the croc... :P Beckett and Jareth work in coordination to try to bring down the crocodile. Beckett Aid Another vs. AC 10 1d20 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 2 + 1 = 14
Seeing their valiant effort fail, Jareth's wounds overcome him and he falls to the ground. Jareth HP -4/12, AC 20/T 14, +2F/+1R/+4W
Round 5, Init 6 (3)... this is the fight that never ends... Tasskar hisses back at Quartes,
Draconic:
"And show myself a coward to my god? Never!" GM Roll:
Concentration DC 19 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 As he carefully watches Quartes and Filios for any signs of attack (casting defensively), Tasskar chants in his dark, unintelligible language once more. A beam of red-hot fire springs forth from his hand, and he holds it at you ready to strike! Spellcraft DC 17:
flame blade! Bite vs. Jareth 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23; Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 The crocodile bites Jareth yet again, bringing the half-orc down. (-4/12) Round 6 Initiative
Tasskar - HP 11/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W
Round 5, Init 9 (1) Balenar continues his performance as he steps up to the crocodile, drawing his rapier in the process. "Half-orc, bring it down!" he shouts as he distracts the beast. Aid another attack vs AC 10 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 (Then Quartes & Beckett...) Round 5, Init 6 (2) Scimitar vs. croc 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 12... oh ffs Jareth nods at the bard, then brings his scimitar down in a devastating blow... to the floor. Jareth HP 6/12, AC 20/T 14, +2F/+1R/+4W
Round 4, Init 6 (3) Touch vs. Quartes 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Tasskar looks over at his crocodile companion, a worried look on his face. He snaps his attention back to Quartes before reaching towards the magus once more with the flame in his hand. As Quartes dodges out of the way, the flame winks out. Bite vs. Jareth 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23; Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 The crocodile continues its assault on Jareth, taking another chunk of flesh from his leg. (Jareth is at 6/12.) Round 5 Initiative
Tasskar - HP 19/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W
Don't forget... inspire courage adds 1 to weapon damage! Round 4, Init 6 (2) Scimitar 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 25; Damage 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7 After Beckett smashes the thing with his morningstar, Jareth takes a step to flank the croc and swings his scimitar at the creature. This time he lands a powerful blow, leaving the crocodile in pretty bad shape. Jareth HP 12/12, AC 20/T 14, +2F/+1R/+4W
Round 4, Init 9 As Balenar continues his performance, he moves to Jareth and casts cure light wounds on the wounded half-orc. "Well that's it for my spells today. I still have my scroll you found in the chest though if things get hairy." He thinks for a second, "Well, hairier than they are now!" Cure light wounds 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11... Jareth's back at 12/12 Quartes lands a vicious hit on the troglodyte. Tasskar - HP 19/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W
@Beckett - Since you had posted before Filios and he didn't move up to flank, you can go ahead and change your action.
Round 3, Init 6 (3) Touch vs. Quartes 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Tasskar snarls at Quartes, reaching out to touch the magus with the flame in his hand but missing him completely. Bite vs. Jareth 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23; Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10... come on, Paizo dice roller! The crocodile bites at Jareth, dealing a devastating wound as it sinks its teeth into the half-orc. (Jareth is at 2/12.) Round 4 Initiative
Tasskar - HP 30/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W (updated hp... sorry... I really do want you guys to win!)
@Noran - Not to make this fight more difficult, but isn't your attack bonus +2 with Flurry of Blows? (+1 Dex, +1 point blank, +1 inspire courage, -1 flurry) Round 3 Initiative
Tasskar - HP 11/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W
Round 3, Init 7 Jareth takes a step back with Beckett switching to his judgment of justice, then readies an attack if an enemy follows the cleric. Round 3, Init 6 Tasskar snickers at Quartes's words with a hissing laugh...
Draconic:
"Hss hss hss... you think my god needs petty shrines? It is not like your weak gods!" Flame vs. touch 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22; Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 fire... eesh - guess it's my turn to roll well :-/ He snarls as he flings the flame in his hand at the magus. It slams into Quartes, intense pain burning through his body. Balenar winces as he sees one of his rescuers badly injured. "Good thing I saved some healing..." Scimitar 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 17 The crocodile chases after Beckett (Beckett's readied channel happens here... go ahead and roll for that) and steps within reach of Jareth. The inquisitor swings his scimitar at the creature, but his attack bounces harmlessly off its thick hide. Bite 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 The crocodile turns to this new threat, lashing out at the half-orc. It nearly manages to grab hold of his leg, but a white glow seems to repel the creature, Jareth's shield of faith saving him. Round 3 Initiative after all those readied actions
Tasskar - HP 10/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W
@Beckett - Hm... yeah, ok - my bad. Nothing mentions that the throne provides cover, but makes sense that it does. Might have negated a hit against Tasskar at one point, but that's OK. Your move won't provoke. Sorry! @Noran - You're 35' from Tasskar... did you want to take a 5-foot step first for Point Blank Shot? Also, isn't your attack bonus +2? (+1 Dex, +1 Point Blank if you move, +1 Inspire Courage, -1 Flurry). Round 3, Init 9 Balenar moves and draws his shortbow as he continues his performance. "I still have a couple spells, but I'll hold onto them in case we need some healing!" Shortbow 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 1 = 20; Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 He draws an arrow and fires at the troglodyte, hitting the creature squarely in its shoulder. "Aha! That's for keeping me in that stinking room!"
Round 2, Init 7 Confusion roll 1d4 ⇒ 1 The confusion effect seems to not take hold as Tasskar stops flailing about. He raises one of his arms, his palm facing upwards, and shouts a brief command as he casts a spell. Spellcraft DC 16:
produce flame Small flames appear in his outstretched hand, though they don't seem to harm him. He remains standing at the far eastern end of the room. Bite 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26; Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 The crocodile attacks Filios once again, sinking its teeth into the elf's leg and bringing him down. (Filios is at -2.) With one threat out of the way, it turns its attention to Beckett, snarling at the cleric. Tasskar - HP 23/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W
Round 2, Init 9(1) Balenar continues his performance, shouting a word of warning between stanzas, "I'm going to try to confuse Tasskar... might be tough since he's a caster of some sort, but if he summons that swarm this fight will get a whole lot more difficult!" He takes a step closer to the troglodyte to get within range, then begins chanting as he casts lesser confusion. Will save DC 14 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13... lucky! GM Roll:
Concentration DC 16 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Tasskar's eyes go wide and he fails to maintain concentration on his spell as paranoia wracks his mind. He begins to look around wildly, frantically swinging his scimitar around recklessly! Initiative
Tasskar - HP 23/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W; confused for 1 round
Noran suggested Jareth head into melee... any other suggestions or want me to go with that?
Round 1, Initiative 6 Tasskar snarls as one of Noran's arrows takes a large gash out of the troglodyte's arm and Quartes's bolt of magic energy slams into his side. He moves out of reach of Filios, chanting strange words and gesturing as he begins to cast a spell. Spellcraft DC 17:
summon swarm Bite 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17; Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 The albino crocodile moves in to take its master's place, snapping at Filios with its toothy maw. The swashbuckler's attempt to avoid the attack fails, and the croc takes a bite out of the elf's leg! (Filios is at 5/10) It doesn't grab him, however, as a larger creature might. Initiative for Round 2
Tasskar - HP 23/32; AC 17/11T; +9F/+3R/+6W
Round 1, Initiative 7 (GMPC for Jareth) Wielding his scimitar and shield, Jareth follows the others up the stairs, but something in the back of his mind tells him not to move too far. He ends his movement and casts shield of faith on himself before activating his judgment of protection. Jareth HP 12/12, AC 21/T 14, +2F/+1R/+4W
Ok - so Filios in front, then Noran/Beckett, Balenar/Jareth, and finally Quartes. Cue the epic battle music! Filios is the first to emerge from the staircase. The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where the spiral staircase you emerged from leads below. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest. Behind the chair you can make out another troglodyte who you can only assume is Tasskar. He looks out of the eastern archway, surveying the lands that will soon be his. Next to the chair is a small crocodile, its skin completely white. It catches sight of you with its pink eyes as you enter the room and hisses a warning to Tasskar. The troglodyte raises a scimitar as he turns towards you, speaking in Draconic. Draconic:
"I hear them, Snapjaw. The floor will be slick with their blood as a sacrifice to our god!" Initiative Rolls:
Jareth 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Beckett 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 Quartes 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 Noran 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 Filios 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 Balenar 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 Tasskar 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Initiative
Tasskar - HP 32/32; AC 17/11T/16FF; +9F/+3R/+6W
Just to be clear, it takes Noran and Beckett 5' to get to where Filios is at the top of the stairs, 10' for Balenar and Jareth, and 15' for Quartes.
Okie doke! As Filios leads the charge up the winding staircase, it becomes apparent that the uppermost floor is unlike the others. A faint, natural light comes from above, and you can tell that the stairway leads to an open room, as opposed to the smaller rooms below. Before you reach the top, you can also see that the ceiling is slightly higher than the previous floors... about 20' above where the stairs end, as opposed to 15'. It's pretty clear that you're headed to the BBEG encounter, so let me know your marching order up the stairs. I updated the map (here) with some boxes that represent the stairs up to the 5th floor. In combat, moving up or down costs 5' of movement. I'll say 2 people can share the same vertical location. Balenar prefers to be at the back to support you, but will go where you'd like. Hopefully that's all not too confusing. :P
Balenar responds to Beckett with a nod, "Fair enough. I suppose it's wise to be cautious." He casts a spell... Spellcraft DC 16:
Oh noes! It's cure light wounds! Super secret GM rolls:
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 ... and a warm glow surrounds him. As his bruises fade away, he nods once more. "So... to Tasskar?"
